I know this is Las Vegas and all, but it can't be normal for employees to ask for time off on Fat Tuesday, can it?

In unrelated news, having a badass on the other side is awesome. This one's a lot less secretive than the kid, so that's a plus.

[Locked to Anton S]

I didn't have a chance to tell you this before I got stuck in Gotham, but Houston, we have a problem. Surprise, surprise.

[Locked to Maddie Kate R]

Where is my favorite redhead?

[Locked to Sebastian V]

How long is too long for me to keep hiding?

I'm thinking of getting a pet. This apartment feels rather lonely by myself. I'm still not entirely sure what yet. Thoughts?

public, as Dell V

[As he has yet to hear Renly's voice and just got some random tablet in the mail with, apparently, just a forum app on it where people are constantly complaining or spewing drivel - some with actual names and others with usernames from Disney movies or something, Dell isn't quite sure what to make of any of this yet, despite his having lurked for a good week or so. He wonders if it's some kind of experimental social media project, and as he regularly researches social media, he thinks he might as well just go for it.]

I don't remember giving my consent to anyone to be part of any kind of study. For those conducting this, here's something to look at the next time you decide to send unmarked packages to strangers:
"Informed consent is a vital part of the research process, and as such entails more than obtaining a signature on a form. Investigators must educate potential subjects to ensure that they can reach a truly informed decision about whether or not to participate in the research. Their informed consent must be given freely, without coercion, and must be based on a clear understanding of what participation involves." - Partners Human Research Committee

I'll keep the tablet as restitution, in any case.

[Locked to the Tyrells]

A king should be suffering for lack of quiet and yet, here I am very alone. Where are my ever faithful servants, hm? My brother kept a hoard of far too much wine here for one man such as myself. Indeed, the Red Keep is richer in Myrish firewine, Dornish strongwine, and Arbor gold than it ever was in coin. We must diminish the store to reflect our absolute financial destitution. It seems only right.

[Locked to Loras T]

I have some need of you, Ser.

Nothing like the Holidays to remind you that you can't stand your family. I almost think that I would have found a way to avoid visiting my parents entirely, if it wouldn't have meant keeping their granddaughter from them. How does the rest of the world refrain from losing their minds this time of year?

[Locked to Alexis K - after a couple weeks of throwing himself into his work, Dallas finds that he just can't help himself.]

call to Dallas S.

[He'd missed Dallas' call a few days ago, and not entirely by accident. Alexis was busy, of course, but also - he'd been feeling more than a little avoidant since the party in the warehouse. Still, he knew he couldn't ignore Dallas outright indefinitely. As he waits for someone to meet him downtown, he calls.

call to Alexis K

[He still had nightmares about the party – horrible dreams where he was a limp wet rag of a man, slumped over a bar and throttled at the mercy of a horrible monster. His wings were ragged and useless, curled tight against his back and occasionally fluttering as if they longed to envelop him, a shield from all evils.

Dallas still had the scars. There was a faint white line that ran vertically down the center of his cheek, and it had a twin across his throat. He was mottled black and blue with bruises that slowly, steadily faded to ugly shades of green and yellow over the course of a couple weeks.

Of course, worst of all were his wings. When Dallas dared to tug his shirt over his head and take a glimpse of his back in a mirror, he was horrified by the scars that ran the length of his spine. There the feathery appendages had been attached, and there they had been torn free as the Ripper used his body and slit his throat.

Dallas was broken. Hideous. He felt sick.

A few weeks after the ordeal, he mustered the courage to dial a single number.

Anyone got any idea where I can get my hands on a sword? Not one of those display replicas, the real thing.

The man in my head won't shut up about it. Insists I need to learn to 'properly defend myself'.

By some twist of fate, I find myself exactly where I want to be. Though I scared one of the serving girls half to death, once calmed down, she was able to tell me a great many interesting things - what has been happening here with no one but the smallfolk, how they've managed to continue with the collapse of not just the kingdom, but social order as a whole. Eagle-eyed and bright, but more able to accept the return of a dead man than many older and more cynical than she, I do believe I have accidentally frightened the right girl.

Unfortunately, without my brother to insist on more and a land peaceable enough to produce it without fear of death, the stock of fine wine has dwindled. Still I did manage to uncover several bottles of Dornish strongwine in a spot some liked to believe hidden. I must say, in all sincerity, I do hope the men and women who managed to pilfer a bottle or two of the Arbor gold are enjoying it.

has anyone else yet set aside time regularly for their voice to visit their door - as in, set up a particular, regular schedule? i'm curious.

I guess if I'm going to keep reading this thing, I should commit and write something myself. Still don't entirely believe any of you are real. Then I don't know shit about Harry Potter or comic books. People have strokes and develop a different accent or can speak a language they never studied. Maybe you can get hit in the head and wake up a dissociative nerd...

Any tips on shutting the voice up? Mine is [pause] opinionated. And more into dragons than a high schooler who started his own metal band... It's getting embarrassing.

Okay, so it looks like I'm not actually completely insane after all. I guess I should be relieved about that huh?

Still it's very disconcerting to hear a voice in your head, mine seems to like offering me advice which is...well odd since I don't really know her. But then I think this is all very strange.

So, I attended the Republican National Convention this week. That was certainly a shitshow interesting. As a (rare, Democrat) guest of some old friends, I had the good fortune to be invited to this year's HomoCon, which is a party for gay Republicans put on by GOProud (I know, clever right? Even Republican gays are more creative than their hetero counterparts.) As a [...] straight, Democrat attendee I was obviously there as more of an ambassador, but it was great to see some familiar faces and I even got a disco ball keychain for my daughter. I also got to spend some time with my father during the RNC, and although he still hasn't quite forgiven me for turning out liberal, a box of cigars seemed to help him forget for a few days.

What are some other effective methods you use to help your parents forget about how they're supposed to be disappointed in you?

I hope it brought you something, what you did to him. Comfort. Closure. I hope it meant something to you.

I won't be contacting you again. Enjoy your life. Others have paid a dear cost so you might live it with a free heart.

I hired you, I believe, to work with me. Starting Monday, I'll have six new cases to investigate. Come at 10, dress as you like. I need you to take care of some paperwork for me. If that's acceptable?

Are your services still available to me, or is that off the table now that we're friends? If not, I'd appreciate it if you could recommend someone discreet and pleasant.
