In an ideal world? I'd continue on, but that won't be so easy if my sitter up and quits - and I wouldn't blame her. The poor girl has the right to earn a living without having to look over her shoulder.

[He lets out an exasperated chuckle, though it's mostly humourless.]

The biggest joke is that I haven't dated anyone, never mind taking advantage of someone who works for me.

Sort of, yeah. I grew up on a farm, so... as soon as I was old enough to hold a pail or a shovel, I had to pull my weight. And our parents fought a lot, so I thought I could make it stop if I was good enough.

That's sad. I'm sorry. Everyone should have a chance to be a child and have a child's dreams. I wanted to visit stars. Coralie - my sister - and I, we would lie outside at night. Since we lived in the middle of nowhere, the sky was always - well, the word we used was 'glittery' - at night. We had all kinds of elaborate plans for our trips. Memories like that sound insignificant, but they aren't.

I was convinced that I was going to be a racecar driver. Nascar, Formula 1, didn't matter. I wanted to get in a car and drive faster than anyone had ever driven before - just drive and drive until I left the world behind. It wasn't until I got older that I realized, those professional drivers just go around and around in a big circle. They never actually went anywhere.
