I’d say it was a weird coincidence, but I don’t know if I really believe coincidence has anything to do with anything that happens in Woodsbridge anymore, you know? )

Everybody, please be careful out there. I just hauled two cars out of a snowy ditch because someone insisted on driving today and got distracted by the latest scrolls falling out of the sky. I would also recommend waiting to go out and get yours until the weather calms down, as I don't think many of us here in California have really top-quality snow gear for traipsing around in this.

That said, if anyone is super stuck, please let me know and I can come get you. I borrowed a snow shovel out of my batty neighbor's junkyard-art piece and I'm powering through the driveways on my street as soon as I finish this cup of tea.

I don't love that I keep having to Casual reminder that Open Self-Defense meets Monday/Wednesday evenings at 7PM, and registration for that is ongoing and cheap because it's technically a "Survey" class. Specialized/form-specific classes start June 5th for 6- 8- and 10-week courses; our website has the complete list of what's offered. I'm also available to teach one-on-ones if you have specific needs/wants/requirements and/or aren't comfortable working in a group setting or aren't available during my set hours. I've cut my time at the dance stu I have more availability at the gym than usual this season, and can work with all genders, body types, and levels of physical experience.

I also highly recommend one of these adorable and useful keychains as an alternative to pepper spray or mace; in the event of even slight wind, aerosols can be blown back into your eyes and incapacitate you instead of an attacker.

Please stay safe out there, friends.

[MARTY SOLVERSON]
It should come as no surprise that we suddenly have a lot of demands for this and not really enough qualified people to teach it. If you're interested in a summer job, they'd take you in a heartbeat.

So we should prob

I've been struggling with how to talk about this for a while now. I know I'm not the most socially active person in this town, and I guess on some level, that always had to do with my Tale. So far as I knew, I was the only one from my Tale who'd ever made it here--there's nothing in the Archives, and in spite of the research I've been doing for over ten years, there aren't any solid leads on an Nibelungenlieders ever popping up in any of the other Tale towns, either. It's isolating, feeling like you're kind of the last of your line, in some way, and wondering what happened to all of your friends. And enemies. I was honestly starting to consider leaving here and going out to some of the communities in Europe, figuring we might be more likely to show up there.

Earlier this week, one more of our number showed up, and I had this weird feeling about it. Like, yes, finally, there really are more of us--there's now double the Nibelung population in Woodsbridge! Hallelujah!

Then I stumble across this scroll? Kriemhild, it says? And I start to think... That was my best friend. That was Brunhilde's BEST FRIEND, and she is here, somewhere. And maybe she's too young to have Registered, or maybe she's new, or maybe, for whatever reason, something got in the way of us getting to know each other. Or maybe she's hiding from him too And I'm not asking her to out herself, because I know that the journey toward embracing one's Tale is a really personal one that everyone has to go at their own pace.

But Kriemhild, if you're out there, I have your scroll. And I would really love to give it back to you, and maybe have a conversation. I know that Tale identity isn't a huge part of everyone's present identity, but it is a huge part of mine. And it would be super awesome to get to know who you are now, however many years after we were separated. And if not, if you just want to take it and go back to your life, I can respect that. Just hit me up.

Anyway, I'm gonna go watch RPDR now, and deal with these feelings by shouting salty things at my television. Peace out, WB.

If anyone's had their shit fucked with by this psycho weather--downed trees in your yard, car smashed and you're afraid to walk to work alone with these gale-force winds, whatever--call me: [###-###-####]. I've canceled my classes/practices for the next few days, and I can take a hit better than most people; I'll move shit/walk you places/whatever the fuck. Or put you up on my couch if your place isn't safe to stay in.

[SHERIFF FINNIGAN]

If you need me again on this one, this offer goes to you guys as well.

I don't know what took me so long, but I finally got around to trying out Harry Potter and the Sacred Text, and it's definitely my new favorite podcast (sorry, Serial--we'll always have Paris) and I want to discuss it with everyone. I've read these books a billion times, and these two nerds are consistently finding new ways to talk about it that I'd never thought of before. My workouts have gotten like, 3000% geekier, and I'm living for it. Is anyone else in on this magic?

ALSO, tonight, 8PM, season premiere of Drag Race Season 9! Come to Tumbledown and watch it with me--everybody's welcome, even if you've never seen the show before, even if we're not friends yet, so long as you promise not to be a dick.

I've been thinking a lot about this whole Object thing. Sometimes, I think any objects found from ANY Tale should be available for all members of that Tale to view and interact with, at least at the beginning. Like when they bring the Folio through town, and groups if ten or so can go into a dimly-lit room and oooh and ahhh and feel connected to history. No Tale exists in a vacuum; frankly, there are a lot of objects from my Tale that weren't mine, but had an effect on me. I think it would only be fair for me to get to see them in person, at least once, when they come home, mostly because I worry that nothing that was my personal property will ever show up. How can we expect Registration to feel like anything but government tagging unless people have an opportunity to actually CONNECT with their own histories, so that they feel more aligned with all parts of their identity?

I don't know. I'm not criticizing the Business Office or how it's running, but all things being equal, doesn't a dragon have as much right to see the sword with which it was slain as the knight who wielded it?

[info]hyerhyland

SCREAMING! Is the Technicolor thing just for the promo, or did we legitimately round up a huge batch of Acid Betty/Trixie Mattel lovechildren for this season? Will these girls figure out how to blend better before Michelle clocks them for their harsh contouring? Were Twisty Fascinatior Wigs part of the requisites for auditioning this season? WHO WANTS TO WATCH THE PREMIERE WITH ME???

Spring literally cannot get here soon enough.

WHO: The Remnants of Aesop
WHAT: Meeting!
WHERE: Faith Hyland's House, the Tumbledown District
WHEN: Saturday afternoon
WARNINGS: None yet!

This town just gets weirder and weirder. )

I was going to panic, but based on the internet today, I'm not alone. The gym is closed today and probably tomorrow, since everyone's bodies are not the ones with which we went to sleep and so we can't really trust people not to hurt themselves.

If anybody is currently either too young or too old to feel comfortable staying alone, I'm available and can come to you.

[RoA]
1. Show of hands: How many of you got hit by the Age Fairy this morning?
2. I think we should still hold the meeting on Saturday, unless anyone's too adversely affected by this. It feels like one more thing we can/should discuss? Thoughts?

[info]hyerhyland

I can't take it any more. I'm getting a dog. I've put it off long enough, but my roommate just moved out, which means I'm officially out of excuses not to have a dog. Your recommendations are welcome--breeds, or specific dogs you know who need love, or just tips and tricks, whatever you got. My house is dogless and this will not stand any longer.

[RoA]
Per discussion with Roxy, we need to meet ASAP. This Saturday would be ideal--is everyone free either late morning/early afternoon, so everyone can get on with their Saturdays afterward (like ideally I would love to do this between 11 and 2)? I'll host--my roommate just moved out, so we have maximum privacy. There will be both healthy snacks and pizza. Feel free to either bring shared healthy snacks or cash for pizza, your call. I'll be eating both, so I won't judge anybody else who chooses to do the same.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you can make this. There's time-sensitive things to discuss. No pun intended.

When I was growing up, my brother and I would beg to be allowed to stay up until midnight on New Year's to watch the fireworks, but neither of us was any good at making it all the way. So one year, my father started a tradition where when one of us got sleepy-looking, he would bust out some kind of brain teaser or puzzle to activate our brains, and we would stay up working on it.

My father and I no longer speak, but my brother and I still send each other puzzles on NYE, mostly to tease each other, but the one he sent me this year was actually pretty tricky and ended in me, drunk in a party dress, scribbling out messy grids on cocktail napkins. I wasn't able to solve it in time, but I did go back and look at it today, and finally forced an answer out of the stupid thing. For those of you at the party who wanted to know what the hell I was doing around 11, here it is!

Riddle below! )

ETA: There may be spoilers in the comments, so scroll at your own risk if you're trying to work it out!

NBC is premiering a show based on the OZ books this January! I have to admit the trailer has me intrigued. If nothing else, it will be visually stunning based on the directors previous works?

[RoA]
I hope everyone's holidays went well! I would like to extend an invitation to you all on the 30th to have a small get together to ring out the letdown of a year that has been 2016. Around seven at my place? Bring food and a white elephant gift to exchange!

[info]hyerhyland

It's sweet potato season, which is great news for those of us that love things that are delicious. They're usually on sale right after Thanksgiving, which means now is a great time to stock up. If you, like me, eat a lot of damn food, sweet potatoes are a great base for a lot of other treats - pancakes, waffles, brownies, I swear, if it's a delicious baked good, you can make it with sweet potatoes for a healthier and equally-tasty version.

As your resident Gym Rat, I have spent a lot of damn time trying every commercially-available protein/nutrition/workout bar, and most of them are either nasty af or just glorified candy bars (the sugar content on some of these things, which are marketed as healthy energy for exercising, is staggering.) Nowadays, I make my own as often as I can, both for snotty nutritionist reasons AND because your girl needs to eat like a mofo and that's expensive.

In the spirit of giving, I thought I would share with you a handy-dandy recipe card for one of my very favorite on-the-go/post-workout snacks, currently highlighted on the blog I continually forget to update:

Ladies: Now through Whenever The Fuck This Stops Being Necessary, we'll be offering free self-defense classes at the gym for ladies of all types, sizes, ages, and experience levels, 7PM on Mondays. And by 'we' I mean 'I,' but the gym is very graciously allowing me the use of a really nice timeslot in one of our largest group training rooms, so kudos to them.

Bring your sisters, your moms, your friends, your daughters (of any age, so long as they are old enough to listen to instructions with some kind of reliability), your coworkers, all the ladies you know--if we fill up the first slot, we will add another. And another. And we will keep doing this until every single woman in Woodsbridge feels prepared to kick the patriarchy in the mouth. Mundane family members are equally welcome if you have them in town.

Now. IF you'll excuse me, some of us need to get ready for karaoke. And to see Fantastic Beasts again tomorrow. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT YET, come with me. I have Every Flavour Beans enough to go around.

Why do I do this to myself every year? Why do I always wait to finish my costume until the last minute? I was up half the night stitching and it's still not finished and I'm so sleepyyyyy.
Zipfizz, take the wheeeeel. ♩♬🎸♩♬

The important part of this story is that I'm gonna be a bomb-ass Sailor Jupiter, if I don't burn the tips of all my fingers off while trying to hot-glue the last of my accessories. Where are all of my Sailor Scout costume buddies at?

Also, please everybody stay safe this weekend. And don't hesitate to give me a call/text if you need Sailor Jupiter to come to your party and beat up some gross dude trying to pick you up because you're tipsy and dressed as a hot nurse. I will walk across the damn town to pick a dude up and toss him out the door, so reach out if you need it. I have done it before, and I will do it again.

[SAMANTHA CROSS]

Samantha - I know you're probably pretty busy and fielding a ton of questions right now, so I'm sorry for adding to the din. But I was wondering, and I think the rest of the group is wondering as well, about that tape that got aired. Obviously we're all pro-transparency here, but forcing someone out of the Tale closet came as a little bit of a shock to us. I'd love to hear your take on all this, when you've got time.

[info]hyerhyland

I guess on the plus side, this means a bunch of super dangerous shit isn't floating around the town where any rando can pick it up and kill someone with it, right?

[REMNANTS OF AESOP]
I'm trying really hard to understand why the fuck they wouldn't have just said that from the beginning--it probably would've prevented this dumb break-in to begin with, wouldn't it?

I think Hal was right; we need a contact in the mayor's office and we need it yesterday.

[JOSIE]
Did you know about the dagger?
