One of the girls in my tap class has this baby brother named Jackson.
Jackson is a dinosaur.
The full deal--spiky and green and felty all over, with big padded paws for hands.
Jackson the Dinosaur has joined tap because he is "getting underfoot" and his mom wants him to have something productive to do so she can have a couple to herself to run errands/grab coffee/whatever.
Dinosaurs do not believe in tap dancing, especially when forced to wear their sisters' old shoes.
But they can be convinced to believe in Rhythmic Stomping, which is very similar to tap dancing, except that you use it to confuse other dinosaurs and scare prey up out of the ground--and, in fact, having feet (shoes) that are too big is helpful in generating the right kind of sound.
Once convinced of this, Jackson the Dinosaur became very interested in using his overlarge paws to scare off weaker dinosaurs and let everyone know he is the boss--but, we agreed, other dinosaurs are only impressed if he can stomp in time to the music; otherwise, the prey will know he's a bad counter and will think HE is the weak one and may attack back.
The best part of the story is that Jackson the Dinosaur is the only boy in a class of girls comparatively much older than him, and every single one of them participated 100% with this story and helped him learn how to do a really basic time step.
The hardest part of all this was keeping my cute aggression under control and not making terrible squealing sounds every time he made tiny dinosaur noises.
