So let me tell you a story about that time I went to Stark Tower in NYC after school, met Steff Rogers, demonstrated my abilities and did some general testing things, and became an effing Avenger. Legitimately. Like regular meetings and (admittedly non-alien) missions and everything.

Because that's what I did today.
