1/31/08 Thursday

Who: Duncan & Calvin
Where: cafeteria
When: lunch-time
What: Calvin catches Duncan being an emo squirrel

He had developed a routine in the last few days, and he was beginning to like it. Get up, shower (actually, that was an occasional part of the routine), think about shaving, not shave, dress, go get food, return to apartment, eat alone with Maury on the television. Now that he had gotten all his memories back, he felt worse. He knew he was wiser and a better person, now that the important memories had been returned to him, but he couldn't help but wonder just how much wiser and better. Was it worth it? Had he been happier? He had never forgotten about J, so when his painful memories (for those are the ones you learn from the most) came back, they simply lumped on top of the dark time he'd spent in a literal dungeon. He figured that was a blessing; if he'd forgotten about J only to be slammed with the memory of years of imprisonment on top of a dead wife, he'd have come apart altogether.

Not that he was doing so well now. The fire demon was piling junk food into the arms of his sweatshirt and shuffling over to the check out line, his eyelids barely open. His sister, had she known about any of this, would have not recognized him. Then she would have told him to shut up and get over it; no one mourns dead spouses after a century goes by. Pathetic. Is that what I am?

Saturday 1/13/08

Who: Calvin, Ciri, Tad and Onyx
Where: the hospital
When: evening
What: The baby is here!

After dinner, Ciri felt pangs of pain that were unlike anything she felt before and told Calvin. It meant it was time for Onyx to arrive and she was scared, not to mention trapped in a room instead of under the stars to make matters worse. The pain was great and all she did was breathe with teary eyes, droplets escaping every once in a while. They had gathered Tad and gone to the hospital, where Ciri became lost in a forest of faces and sounds. The actual labor did not take that long and was quick according to the doctors, but Ciri couldn't pay attention to much of anything. Then Onyx was born and as soon as he came out and cried, things began to float around them.

Her baby was in her arms at last and he was incredible. Having her hold him quieted him immediately and Ciri planted a kiss on Onyx's forehead. She wanted everyone to know about her son with Calvin and watched proudly as the doctor did some final necessary things. Finally, the door opened so Tad could come in to see the baby. "You are a big brother now," Ciri said to him and he remained very quiet. She gestured with a finger for him to come closer and he sat on the bed. Ciri gave Onyx to Calvin because she liked seeing them together, then holding Tad's hand.

Love and pride overwhelmed her and it was one of the best feelings in the world. She was very tired, but didn't want to sleep just yet. It was hard when something so exciting and wonderful happened.

Saturday 12/22/07

Who: Everyone!
What: Winter Social
Where: Recreation Center
When: Saturday, starting at 7pm

As expected, the school had turned the recreation center on its ear with awesomeness. What was once a place of pool tables and board games had become a frosty winter wonderland. The walls were decorated in classic Victorian Christmas fashion, a garland of evergreen and velvet ribbons strung along the ceiling, burning gas lamps filling the room with a soft glow. The refreshmant tables were draped in dark green tablecloths, shining silver platters and a sparkling crystal punch bowl serving finger foods and warm cider. Hot cocoa was available in perfectly polished silver pitchers. Classical Christmas music played through the stereo system, giving the room an old world feel. The most striking piece in the room, however, was the fifteen foot evergreen tree that took up the far back corner. Covered in ribbons, glass balls and tiny colored lights, it seemed to give off an ethereal glow. A brilliant white star topeed the display, a shining beacon that attracted the eye like moths to a flame. This was the room where students and staff could sit in overstuffed chairs, sip mulled cider and talk quietly, and simply bask in the glow of a warm winter evening.

For those who desired more kick in their Feliz Navidad, the basketball court upstairs looked like a disco Christmas- mirrored balls hung from the ceiling while strings of blinking colored lights hung corner to corner across the ceiling. Long strands of tinsel were draped over the table where the turntables were set up, the hired DJ playing typical dance club music. Whilst wearing a Santa hat, of course.

Outside, the grounds were still covered in the new snow that had fallen on Sunday, with a crisp fresh layer added courtesy of the ice mage faculty members. The outdoor pool was also frozen solid, and ice skates were available to borrow from the rec center gym. Paths were shoveled in the snow so students could walk from place to place, each path illuminated by white pillar candled placed inside frosted glass bulbs set along the footpaths.

Who: Calvin, Ciri, Tad
When: 7Pm
Where: The new Kelley apartment
What: Calvin has a gift to give Tad

In light of moving, and the holidays approaching, Calvin was not only in a fantastically cheery mood, but he was feeling amazingly generous. Earlier that morning a moving van had rolled up to the school and Calvin had told the men with the large box filled with wooden panels that he had help and would be fine getting the object up the stairs. They left and Calvin lifted the item by himself, steadying it with his hands as his telekinesis carried the box up the stairs to the apartment. While both Ciri and Tad had been out of the apartment, Calvin had worked as quickly as he could on his lunch break. When he'd run out of time and had to resume work he locked the door to Tad's new bedroom behind him. A note was left reading, "Surprise inside! Do not open!" so Tad would not get too terribly angry.

After work he returned to the apartment to greet his wonderful wife with kisses, and a warm hair shake. "How was your day?" he asked of them while putting dinner together. "Do anything exciting today? I learned that, apparently, cherry bombs can blow up in a toilet. But my day was boring as all get out. Please, please, please tell me you two did something fun!" Smiling, he sat on the kitchen counter while waiting for the meal to cook on up. After he served the two he'd be returning to work in the bedroom. He really hoped Tad would enjoy his early Christmas gift.

"Ah! Ciri, before I forget. I was thinking this weekend we could all decorate the Christmas tree? I got a fake one at the store so we don't have a mess when we're done." And so they didn't have to cut down a perfectly wonderful tree for the sake of a holiday.

Saturday, 12/8/07

Who: Calvin, Ciri and Tad
When: midday
Where: the Kelleys' place.
What: Homework (maybe) and lunch.

Tad gathered his homework and packed it in his bag, leaving his room and locking the door behind him. Heading to the Kelleys' room, he reached into his pocket to take hold of the sparkling rock he had found yesterday with Cassie. Someone must have liked it before and he was going to put it to good use as well. His heart thumped hard as his footsteps sounded on the stone floor, thoughts flickering between Calvin who had complimented him (Roger too) and Ciri. He had little idea why he liked the two, but they were so happy and he wanted to be happy too.

Was being nice to people going to make him happy? How could he make friends? Did he have to be older in order to do that? Puzzling questions swirled around and distracted him as he walked. They were making him weaker, these people, turning him softer. His stomach flip-flopped and warmed like it did when Lucile baked cookies for him. Before he knew it, he reached the door and knocked on it with red cheeks and a quick pounding heart. Ciri opened the door after a little while and grinned at him. "Hi," he said softly and walked in when Ciri stepped back to let him inside the place. "I found something nice." Tad pulled the quartz out of his pocket and held it out for her to take.

"Wow!" Ciri took the rock and lifted it up to the light to see it sparkle. "It is wonderful! Where did you find it? Are you going to put it on the windowsill? It can catch the light and then you have rainbows all over your floor." He walked to the sofa to sit down on it and removed a notebook from his bag - English, unfortunately.

First he had to answer her questions. "Cassie and me found it in a secret room. I'm going to put it on my table because it looks nice there," he said. "I got some pictures too of outside places and people smiling. They have words on the back with names and stuff." Tad shrugged. He hadn't paid attentention to the names of the people in the pictures, but maybe it was the nice thing to do. Ciri liked hearing about the secret room already, he could tell by the way she smiled.

Mon 11/19/07

Who: Calvin and Ciri
When: late afternoon
Where: their apartment
What: They heard the baby's heartbeat.

Ciri had not said a word throughout the visit to the doctor's or on the way back to the school. It was unusual for her, but she could not help it. She was just stunned, both happy and scared from the proof that a tiny life grew inside of her. Knowing this made her decide to be more cautious about what she did and ate for the baby's sake. They arrived at the apartment finally and she stepped inside once the door was unlocked. Without a word, she walked over to the sofa and sat on it as well as tucking her legs beneath her.

This was her baby and she had to protect him for Calvin's (and Go'al'enu's) sake. Until recently, she took care of herself and relied heavily on Calvin's help, but the baby would need him even more. Everything had to be perfect and thus she'd have a child who helped the earth, also making good friends of all races. She wanted to give their child so much love and he'd spread it as well to make lots of people happy. Ciri wondered what the baby would look like, if it was a boy or a girl; she hoped it had Calvin's hair, eyes and especially his smile. A thoughtful expression remained on her face as she slid off her socks and shoes. "What do you think the baby will look like?" she asked her husband as she rested her back on the sofa, staring at her toes in the air.

Wednesday: 11/14/07

Who: Charlie, Calvin, and Shizuka
When: Wednesday evening
Where: the infirmary
What: the security dudes go to interview Shizuka about the attack

Charlie had been in bed talking to Davia when he got an urgent text informing him that a student had been attacked. Shizuka was still being treated for her injuries, so he knew it was too early to try and talk to her about what happened. Instead, he sprung into action and searched the entire school. He also did an extensive sweep of her dorm room and talked to her roommate. The most baffling part of the attack... was that Cissy said the door was still locked. Charlie inspected the lock carefully. He knew all about picking locks, and this one had not been touched. Either the attacker had a key, or he/she had some other means of entering the room. He didn't know of any vampires in the school who possessed the ability to teleport, so his money was on the duplicate key idea.

When searching proved worthless, Charlie got in touch with Calvin again. Shizuka was recovering in the infirmary, and Charlie had gotten word that she was conscious. While he didn't want to upset her, it was important to interview her early before she could forget important details. He grabbed her file from his office before he met Calvin.

Charlie had just opened the file, trying to learn a bit about the girl, when Calvin arrived. Charlie looked like hell. He hadn't slept well, and now he was worried. It was his job to keep the students and staff in the school safe, and now he had a vampire attacker on the loose. "Hey. I got her file. I feel bad that I don't know much about her. I don't think I've even talked to Shizuka before." That was the case with a lot of students, actually. But he didn't have a reason to get to know most of them.

Who: Ciri and Sketch (with Calvin if he wants to pop in!)
Where: The Kelleys' apartmenet
When: evening, after dinner
What: Sketch teaches Ciri how to bake a chocolate cake.

Ciri had a great day so far. The saplings were growing nicely, she had a nice walk, and dance class was so much fun! It was hard for her to imagine herself with a large stomach in the future to prevent her from dancing as much as she did now. That part was sad although the idea of bringing Calvin's baby into the world made it difficult to be sad for very long. At the moment, her top priority was baking! Sketch had promised to bring ingredients with her so they were able to bake a cake and Ciri could not wait! She ate her dinner in excitement, helped Calvin wash the dishes and proceeded to sit, antsy, on the sofa.

Then came a knock on the door and a gasp escaped her before she realized it. Her friend was here! Ciri rushed to the entrance, opened the door and threw her arms around Sketch to give her a hug. "Hi!" she greeted. "I will help you carry something." She took one of the things out of Sketch's hands and led the way to the kitchen. So, where to start? With a cake, she supposed there needed to be a bowl for the batter and she withdrew one from the cabinet. "Okay! Here is a bowl. What else do we need?" Ciri appeared to be clueless, but really she was a quick learner if the teacher was patient enough.

A spoon for stirring. She had seen Calvin's mother use one a few times before and so she got out a wooden spoon from one of the drawers. Her face was now serious as she was determined. They would make a delicious cake, she was sure!

Wednesday 11/7/07

Who: Calvin & Ciri
When: Wednesday morning, 2AM
Where: The Kelley Apartment
What: Calvin has a cold

That night, Calvin dreamed of nothing. He was lost in a sleep without happiness or horror, only a cold sweat breaking out as he shivered on his half of the bed. Laying upon his side, his body curled against the blankets or threw them aside throughout his rest. The man was practically unconscious, so far into sleep he didn't wake into his feverish state. He didn't know what lie ahead for the morning. Instead, Calvin rolled onto his back, bare body practically covered with a sheen of sweat not from a night of fun and romance. There was no cough, no sniffles. Nothing but a shiver that ran up his spine. His body was unable to decide if he was hot or cold, unable to fight away the illness that had struck with only the warning of a series of sneezes from the day before.

But what was worse, perhaps, than his body being attacked was the assault on the bedroom. The whole apartment. Calvin had never consciously made the effort to be as powerful in his telekinesis as he could have been. Now, unrestrained in his distress, things started to move across the room in the midst of the night. It was nearly two, but there was a whole of his sleep and the four hours left in his normal slumber for chaos. The side table lamp wiggled on the spot, floating an inch from the surface. Other things around the room lifted far higher. There was almost a static in the air from all the energy being output by his subconscious mind. A handful of breakables shattered on the floor with loud crashes that could wake a person in the living room. But not Calvin. In the living room itself there were magazines and books hovering in mid-air, frozen almost. Other things were thrown back and forth into the walls.

Had Calvin known about what he was doing to his poor apartment, what his darling wife would be waking to, he would have been ashamed. But he didn't know. Even their neighbors might find something a miss, having moved itself in the night, but with luck nothing broke. However, should something fall to pieces, Calvin would be more than willing to replace it. This sort of mental activity and breakdown of his control had happened only once before when he had the flu as a child, but his power had not been so strong then.

Who: Calvin and Ciri.
Where: Their apartment.
When: Dinner time.
What: Birthday celebrations.

Ciri awoke that morning, dressed, and had breakfast with less enthusiasm than usual. She was not able to get the poor sprout out of her mind; it stood there in the cold and would suffer throughout the months of winter. When she was in tree form, she accepted it as the cycle of life, but now she had the ability to help. Calvin went to work and Ciri threw on a coat to head outdoors in the direction of the first two sprouts. She said hello and held a conversation with them, glad that they were warmer now. After she promised she would return later, she left to go to the forest for the third sprout. She did her best to be cheerful for the young tree, gave her best smile, and that was when the idea for how to save it came to her.

Hours passed as she sat by the sprout, talking to it and then left with a lingering goodbye. After she returned to their apartment, Ciri grabbed several glasses from the cabinet. They would be perfect to prop up a glass bowl, giving the sprout enough light and also keeping it warm. Duct tape was enough to stick them together although they prevented the sun from getting to the plant. Luckily, she found scotch tape and that was perfect; she cut pieces of tape to place on the glasses. Soon enough, three glasses were stuck together, but when Ciri tried to move them, they wiggled much too easily. Time to put tape on the other side of the glasses.

More determined than she had been in a while, Ciri did not hear Calvin enter the apartment. Her brow was furrowed as she held the medium glass bowl over the glasses to see how wide a circle she needed to make and placed the remaining glasses accordingly. When she finished the circle, the bowl would go on top and be taped securely to the glasses with duct tape. It would work. It had to because she did not want to see any young trees die this winter. This was a new life for her and Calvin and she had to make it as wonderful as possible for him.

Who: Calvin and Ciri Kelley
Where: the hallways of the school
When: morning
What: The Kelleys arrive.

They had finally arrived. Ciri Kelley walked energetically through the doorway of the school and her gaze darted around the hall, taking in the surroundings. There were a couple of people passing by her and she saw that one of them had wings. Wings? In her years of being a human nearly almost all the time, she never saw such a person. Curiosity got the better of her and she headed over to the winged woman, her hand outstretched to touch one of her wings gently. Calvin taught Ciri about personal boundaries, yet when she was very curious about something, that fact tended to fall to the wayside. The woman gave her a frown and hurried away before Ciri could introduce herself.

Worse was the woman left and Ciri was unable to apologize like she needed to do so because she offended her. A slight frown appeared on the dryad's face, but her attention shifted to a door of a classroom. She peered inside the window on the door and hoped to find some students in the classroom learning. The room was empty, unfortunately, and she increased her pace to head to the next one. It proved to have some people in it and she waved at them with a smile on her face. How exciting, people learning! Ciri looked forward to receiving more information from her classes although she had enjoyed learning from her husband very much. "Cal! Look at the students!" she said. She would be one of them!

Her dress rustled a little around her as she continued down the hallway, turning to grin at Calvin. "Race me to the end of the hallway," Ciri said to her husband. "Please?" She'd give him a reward if he was the winner or loser. After they toured the inside of the school, she wanted to see if there were any dryads in the trees near the school. She did not sense them from this distance.... maybe it was just a matter of searching a little. After a moment, she waited a couple of moments before starting to run lightly down the hallway, knowing he'd follow in some fashion because her rewards were always worth it.
