Who: Calvin and Ciri.
Where: Their apartment.
When: Dinner time.
What: Birthday celebrations.
Ciri awoke that morning, dressed, and had breakfast with less enthusiasm than usual. She was not able to get the poor sprout out of her mind; it stood there in the cold and would suffer throughout the months of winter. When she was in tree form, she accepted it as the cycle of life, but now she had the ability to help. Calvin went to work and Ciri threw on a coat to head outdoors in the direction of the first two sprouts. She said hello and held a conversation with them, glad that they were warmer now. After she promised she would return later, she left to go to the forest for the third sprout. She did her best to be cheerful for the young tree, gave her best smile, and that was when the idea for how to save it came to her.
Hours passed as she sat by the sprout, talking to it and then left with a lingering goodbye. After she returned to their apartment, Ciri grabbed several glasses from the cabinet. They would be perfect to prop up a glass bowl, giving the sprout enough light and also keeping it warm. Duct tape was enough to stick them together although they prevented the sun from getting to the plant. Luckily, she found scotch tape and that was perfect; she cut pieces of tape to place on the glasses. Soon enough, three glasses were stuck together, but when Ciri tried to move them, they wiggled much too easily. Time to put tape on the other side of the glasses.
More determined than she had been in a while, Ciri did not hear Calvin enter the apartment. Her brow was furrowed as she held the medium glass bowl over the glasses to see how wide a circle she needed to make and placed the remaining glasses accordingly. When she finished the circle, the bowl would go on top and be taped securely to the glasses with duct tape. It would work. It had to because she did not want to see any young trees die this winter. This was a new life for her and Calvin and she had to make it as wonderful as possible for him.
