Just the thought of going through with this was making Eli feel sick. So sick, in fact, that he had already thrown up twice today and was compulsively sucking on Tic-Tacs just in case. So many things could go wrong. What if Nandi was disappointed when it was him that showed up? What if she wasn't? What if he got nervous again and puked on her? She was already standing at the door, and he didn't have time for this kind of wembling. She deserved to see him face to face. He had already kinda bailed on her once, and even though she wouldn't know it was him this time, he would know. And he would feel like a jerk forever.

Smoothing down his shirt and adjusting his fedora, Eli swallowed down the rest of the mint in his mouth and strode over to Nandi, giving her his best smile. "Hi," he said shyly, holding out a wrist corsage he had made out of dandelions. "I got this for you."

Moving in wasn't a very big deal when you'd been living in the dorms all summer. Because Eli didn't have anywhere else to go, except sometimes his brother's room, he had been on campus all summer and it had been boring as hell. On the plus side he had perfected his ollie kick, but on the downside he was so sick of looking at this place he almost wanted to burn it down. But with parents and students milling about, it was easier to wander around and not have security watch you too closely, and that's exactly what he was going to do. He had walked along the walls, skatedboarded through the parking lot, rolled down the lawn, and his next target was the water tower. He didn't really like water, but since it was contained inside, he figured it would be fine.

Holding his skateboard at his side, Eli made his way to the ladder at the bottom, but he paused when he saw someone else standing there. A girl. A pretty girl. Swallowing, Eli took a breath, gained some composure and strutted over, looking up like she was. "Rumor has it there's a dead guy up there," he said casually. "Some guy offed himself and they never bothered to get him down."
