my world is changing, i won't put up a fight.

Who: Mason and Kiley.
Where: Cherryblossom Place; Mason’s apartment.
When: Morning.

There was no alarm that went off to trigger his return to the waking world and it was a slow and steady recovery of consciousness, nothing special about it at all to signify that anything was out of place. More often than not he didn’t really need that alarm, Mason was more than capable of getting himself out of bed but as he started to stir and the sounds of the world beyond the windows and walls of the apartment started to creep in at the edges of his awareness, the subtlest shaft of light from the morning sun landing across the surface of the bed in which he lay, he knew something was different. The warmth of the bed itself, the sheer comfort he felt, made it difficult to care but as the minutes ticked by and sleep relinquished its hold on him piece by piece things started to settle, his mind shook off the dust of slumber and started feeding him information about where he was, what needed to happen that day, and with whom. There was someone else in the bed, too.

Not that unusual, really, it wasn’t the first time Kiley had shared his bed and last night wasn’t the first time they had--

Wait.

Mason’s eyes opened and he rose up onto his elbows, bringing his chest off the mattress while being careful not to disturb Kiley’s arm where it had come to drape across his back at some point during the night while they were both asleep. At some point he had rolled over onto his stomach, evidently, and she had nestled in close to his side. Without even needing to look beneath the sheets that were draped over them both Mason knew one fact with unwavering certainty: neither of them were wearing any clothes.

They had slept together. More than once.

“Oh my God.” It was so quiet it could scarcely even be considered a whisper and just for a moment Mason pressed his face into the crumpled pillows on his side of the bed before lifting his head again and lifting one hand to lay it gently against her bare shoulder, a light touch coupled with her name in a soft hushed tone meant to rouse her from sleep slowly and carefully.

Something had happened to bring them to this point. Mason just wasn’t entirely sure yet what that something was.

turn your face to the stars, i see you smiling.

Who: Mason and Kiley.
Where: Starbucks to start with.
When: Late afternoon.

No one who knew Mason Normandin could accuse him of being a hopeless romantic, certainly not on the surface where the whole world could see him and judge him for his words and behaviours. As much as any other member of his family he had a reputation to uphold and Mason did his part with that as much as any other Normandin, perhaps more so in his opinion, but there were times when that image meant very little to him. As he pulled his car to the curb and let the engine die he knew this was one of those times, when the opinions of the rest of the world meant absolutely nothing and all that mattered was the thoughts and feelings of one other person.

Kiley was due to finish work any minute now.

This was the point where Mason always debated whether or not to go inside or just to wait out by the car. Without even realising he had stepped out of the vehicle and onto the sidewalk and now he stood by the car with his keys in his hand not entirely sure of what to do with himself. Go in and wait for her to finish while her coworkers all stared at him and whispered their little rumours amongst themselves where they thought he couldn’t hear them? Or wait out here for her to step out and avoid the whole thing but perhaps seem nonchalant to those same people inside?

Before he could decide exactly which option to go for -- not to mention whether or not he actually cared one bit about what those inside thought of him or their relationship -- the very person he was waiting for stepped out of the door and into the cool October air. Mason felt the smile cross his face instantly and he strode forward to meet her. “Hey, you,” he said, still smiling. “I was just about to come inside.”

are we unnoticed or have we figured something out.

Who: Savvy and Kiley.
Where: SOHS.
When: Early evening.

Savvy didn’t know why she hadn’t thought of it sooner. It was dangerous, certainly, but there was always an inherent danger to using her powers to any degree, regardless of whether or not there was a gigantic barrier of some sort of magic in her way. She’d been in the middle of finishing off a particular intricate -- in her opinion, at least -- design on one of the restaurant’s accent walls when it had occurred to her and she’d almost had a genuine Eureka! moment to accompany it. It was all she’d been able to do to keep hold of the paintbrush in her grasp when it had hit her, practically with the force of a freight train, and as it was she’d made a rather embarrassing squeak of a sound that had had one of the other people in the room look her way as though she’d was either insane or had spotted a spider or some sort of errant rodent. Savvy had smiled at them in a manner she’d intended to be disarming but if the way they’d hurriedly shuffled out of the area was any indication it had probably come across more psychotic than anything else. Oops? Oh well.

By the time she was done with her work for the day she’d been beside herself with what she could only call excitement and she’d practically bolted all the way to the school as fast as her legs could carry her in order to find the one person who would be interested in the idea. Okay, the rest of pack around said person might be interested in the outcome, if it worked, but it was one person in particular that Savvy wanted to pitch it to.

“Kiley!” she’d exclaimed when she’d gotten close enough to spot her friend and that distinctive head of red hair, raising one hand in the air to wave it to help get the other young woman’s attention. God, she probably looked like an idiot. Hey, nothing new there, right?

[info]beforeyouspeak

it's tearing you apart and thoughts are running in vicious circles.

Who: Savvy and Kiley.
Where: The Normandin-claimed field across from the high school.
When: Very, very early morning, not long after midnight.

With everything that was going on Savvy had already heard from her employers, who had told her that they wouldn’t be at the restaurant that day and so they would have no need of her services. She would still get paid for the day, they had assured her, and they would let her know when they would be back in their establishment. Whether they knew someone -- a relative, perhaps, or maybe they had a child of their own? Savvy wasn’t sure -- inside the school she didn’t ask because it felt rude to pry like that, she’d simply texted them back to thank them for letting her know, promising that she would make up for lost time as soon as they were back in the restaurant. They responded to let her know not to worry, and they would see her soon. That had been that. It all worked out for the best, really, with her plans to head down to the school, to spend God only knew how much time there. For all she knew they would be there for hours, maybe even the whole day.

Maybe longer. As Savvy travelled down already-crowded sidewalk approaching the high school she was thinking about just what might be going on, how it might tie into the other strange goings-on recently. By the time she gave up on the packed sidewalk and started to travel -- carefully, constantly checking up and down for any moving vehicles -- on the street itself instead she didn’t have much in the way of answers and when the building itself came into sight she only really had one possible explanation, and her first glance at the school felt like a confirmation.

Magic.

Something inside of her recognised it, even from this distance, and chewing silently on the inside of her bottom lip she studied it from where she stood, trying to fathom just how much power would have to go into something like that to make it hold. It made her brain hurt just thinking about it.

“Miss, are you all right?” It was a man in uniform. Savvy found herself wondering if this guy worked at the same station as Mason, but instead of asking that, she smiled and asked a different question instead.

“I’m looking for the Normandins? They’re around here somewhere, I just--”

“Oh, yeah, sure. They’re here.” He was nodding, taking a look around before snapping his fingers and turning decisively to point across the street. Savvy followed his gaze, finding what he was directing her to almost immediately. It was a field, for all intents and purposes, and even from where she was standing she could see people moving around, busying themselves with particular tasks. “They’ve set up shop over there, kind of laid claim to it, you know?” the guy in the uniform was saying, and Savvy picked up on just how curious he was about the whole thing. “I guess it’s a wolf thing,” he added. “You know, territorial behaviour or whatever.”

Savvy smiled and nodded. “Right.” Time to go. “Thanks!” And with that she was on her way, crossing the street and making a beeline for that field, searching around for-- there she was. Kiley was easy enough to pick out, the Normandins themselves were all blonde and, well, statuesque. People like Kiley and Savvy were going to stick out like sore thumbs, but so be it. At least they would be sore thumbs together.

As she came up to her best friend’s side she offered out one of the items she had been carrying with her all the way from her apartment. It was a travel mug, filled with coffee made to Kiley’s preference, and as she offered it she said, “It’s no Starbucks, but it doesn’t suck. Not too bad, anyway.” Because what else could you say to your best friend when she was worried sick about her boyfriend who was trapped inside a magically-encased high school?

honey it's time for some hard truths

Who: Kiley and Nicci
When: Quarter to midnight
Where: Outside the school

Nicci's parents were livid, but by the time they got wind of what she'd done they were too late to undo it. They had waited for a long time for Nicci to come to the house like she'd said she would, and came to the school only after another member of the pack had called and told them just what Nicci had done. She could feel their rage from a mile away, but she knew them well. They would not contradict her in public. They would show no sign of weakness. Nicci had gotten away with it.

And she didn't think she was doing a bad job of it, either. She had ordered all available members of the pack to the scene to show their support, which was perhaps not very practical and kind of unnecessary, but fuck it, it made her feel better. She had sent members to ask around with any history or experience in law enforcement to call the local police department and ask if there were any volunteer jobs needed. She'd also had people asking around about friends or family members with magical knowledge or ability to do the same. She had people researching on the internet for even the most left-field mention of something similar happening anywhere else in the world. She had women making sandwiches and coffee to bring down for the police.

She had even texted that redheaded pain in the ass she liked to pretend didn't exist, and she'd been damn civil about it. That one had pained her, oh yes, it had physically hurt, but if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right. And in the end, it would make Mason happy. Another brownie point in her favor. Why not go for broke.
