So lonely inside, so busy out there
Where: Troy's apartment above the dojo
When: Afternoon
( And all you wanted was somebody who cares. )
Who: Jackson and Delta.
Where: The Woods, just outside of Scarlet Oak proper.
When: Evening, after sunset.
The run hadn’t done much to ease his frustration. The aches and pains left over from the clash with the vampire in the park were much easier to ignore than the gnawing irritation that was his dissatisfaction surrounding the whole thing. So badly he’d wanted to put her down, end her existence, but knowing that he couldn’t do that, especially not in broad daylight in a public place, he had at least wanted to really hurt her. Knowing that she’d walked away under her own power was what was really bothering him. Jackson had wanted her to know how Troy had felt, lying there helpless and wounded on the floor. He hadn’t managed that and it made him angry at himself more than anything else, and no matter how hard he tried to turn that anger onto the vampire, onto Lida as an individual, it wasn’t working.
Pulling his shirt on over his head a little more forcefully than was necessary, tugging his jacket on over the top, he was in the process of raking his fingers back through his dishevelled hair -- best not to go back into town with leaves and God only knew what else sticking out of it -- when he heard something. Something that made him still, not even breathing for several seconds while he listened instead. The rustle of fallen leaves kicked out of someone’s path. The crackle of dead, dry twigs breaking underfoot.
Someone was coming. And fast, if what he could hear was any indication.
Silently grateful that he’d opted for dark clothes for the night Jackson positioned himself half behind a tree, watching the direction from which the sounds were originating, waiting to see who -- or more to the point, what -- would appear.
Who: Jackson and Zachary.
Where: Outside the high school, away from the crowds.
When: Early evening.
There was a big difference between hearing about something like this and seeing it first-hand and after all the rumours and gossip he’d heard floating around, not just around town but also on the radio and news channels, Jackson had decided he had to see it for himself. That was what had brought him all the way from the dojo to the high school though he had made sure not to get too close. Jackson was still keen not to draw too much attention to himself and getting any closer than he was now -- across the street and around to one side of the building instead of towards the front somewhere -- was a risk he wasn’t willing to take. Since arriving in Scarlet Oak he had had more strange encounters than he cared to count. He was in no rush for another one.
With his hands lightly pushed into his pockets he had managed to adopt an air of nonchalance as he looked over at the school across the street, picking up on threads of conversations as they drifted along on the air. People were scared, confused, well and truly thrown by what was going on. Jackson heard the word magic tossed around at least half a dozen times, if not more. He hadn’t been keeping count. It wasn’t something he had had all that much experience with beyond that bizarre encounter in the woods with the girl who hadn’t seemed old enough to be driving her own car let alone practising magic and even then it had been such a confusing meeting that Jackson hadn’t learned much of anything about the craft.
There were a lot of things he didn’t know.
Suddenly his back straightened and the air of nonchalance was marred by the tension that ran down the length of his spine, spreading across his shoulders and through his chest and abdomen. There was another wolf nearby, one whose scent he didn’t recognise, and to make matters worse they seemed to be headed right for him, whether they realised it or not. Slowly, trying not to draw attention to himself, Jackson drew his hands from his pockets, turning his head to the left as casually as he could to try and locate the other wolf before they got too close.
Who: Jackson and Selena (plus Percival!).
Where: Scarlet Oak park.
When: Late afternoon.
( As he left the path to follow the wolverine across the grass it didn’t even occur to him that there might be more than one wolverine in Scarlet Oak, that more than one supernatural might have found that particular animal wandering into their life in the form of a familiar. )
Who: Jackson and Lida.
Where: Lida’s house and the surrounding area.
When: Late evening.
( Moving furniture and cleaning up what was left of the vampire’s mess was all well and good but it didn’t satisfy a need he felt deep down inside. A need for something not unlike vengeance, or at least for some sort of justice. )
Who: Jackson and Tessa (and possibly Inaki [NPC]).
Where: Lida's house and the surrounding area.
When: Early afternoon.
( Feel like a little breaking and entering? )
Who: Jackson and Tessa.
Where: The Red Dragon Dojo.
When: Around midday.
( The dojo beneath Troy’s apartment was impressive to say the least. )
Who: Jackson and Troy.
Where: A pay phone in town? To be decided from there!
When: Mid-afternoon.
( It had taken him this long to decide whether or not to make the call at all. )
Who: Jackson and the Budget Lodge Manager (NPC).
Where: The Budget Lodge.
When: Early afternoon.
( Jackson had to fight to keep from growling in irritation. No, he couldn't afford another night, and that was that, basically. It had been building up to this for a few days now. )
Who: Jackson.
Where: The Budget Lodge; Jackson’s room.
When: Very early morning.
( Jackson swung his legs from the bed, gripping the edge of the mattress as if for dear life, like a drowning man clinging to a lifeline, his eyes squeezed shut and his chest heaving as he struggled to get oxygen down to his lungs. )
Who: Jackson and Jo.
Where: The woods.
When: Late afternoon.
( A wolf was always aware, and Jackson was no exception. )
Who: Jackson.
Where: The Budget Lodge; Jackson's room.
When: Early afternoon.
( Full moon in an unfamiliar place was always strange. )
