Crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling

Who: Maxine and Teddy
Where: The streets of Scarlet Oak
When: Night time

It appeared as though after that little awkward moment at the coffee shop (and the intentional flirting that occurred afterwards) Maxine and Teddy had actually gotten closer. At least it appeared so to the siren herself, given she couldn't remember a time when they had taken a ride at night without the rest of the team. Yes, they had been trying to break into the police station network following the faerie pictures debacle, the vampire murder and whatever had happened before then that had made them forget everything. But still. Closer.

Everything happened so much, so fast in Scarlet Oak. Murders, curses, spells, disappearances - it almost made Maxine's head spin. As long as she had lived, she had never seen such a thing. Omega seemed strapped for a place to start from, and so they worked separately, two and two (or three, in one case) trying to get everything under control. Maxine had gone along with Teddy for support, company and in case they found a window open that she could fly through - you never knew what buttons even an expert hacker might need pressed (the double-entendre in this very thought was not lost on her).

They had parked their van an inconspicuous distance away from the station and gone to work, Maxine riding shotgun as lookout and Teddy working his magic. Or, his psychicity.

Maxine looked behind her seat after another once-over around the van and on the mirrors. "You look frustrated dear, what is it?"

A songbird and a teddy bear walk into a coffee place...

Who: Maxine and Teddy
When: Morning, about 10am
Where: The motel they're staying in, then a nice coffee place for breakfast.

Maxine had woken up bored. It was the morning after the full moon and not a bird dared stir. It was always like this after the full moon, as far as Maxine remembered. Ash and Maya had been off doing their monster-like thing, and would require some rest this morning. As for the others, Logan was still out of commission for most fun things, Ice was off doing what it was that Ice did when he wasn't around, the Major deserved his sleep and that left dear Teddy, whom Maxine had not bothered in ages. She had dressed to the nines for the occasion, though she knew that would not ease the process any. He was going to be grumpy, and possibly under-slept. That wouldn't deter her, however. At around 10 in the morning Maxine was banging on Teddy's door.

"Teddy-bear! I am bored, let's have breakfast. I'm buying!" She called, not ceasing the knocking until he responded somehow. "I know you haven't been eating properly, you never do. Come on!"

i used to think take them as they come, without hesitations.

Who: Zachary and Maxine.
Where: Bargain Books.
When: Mid-Morning.

The last few days things had moved swiftly for Zach, he'd thought about finding new premises for his store but hadn't found anywhere suitable so he'd looked into the cost of getting the tree removed and repairs done. Surprisingly the cost of getting that all done wasn't as much as he'd expected so he'd made the necessary arrangements and now the work was being carried out. The last two days had been spent boxing up any stock that might be damaged by the removal of the tree and only once he was sure everything was safely tucked away had he allowed the work to begin.

Normally Zach wouldn't have been at the store with it being closed but he wasn't about to leave the keys to his business in the hands of the contractors. Not only that but he wanted to oversee the work and be on hand just in case they needed his input with anything. It had the bonus of getting him outside as well, fresh air always did the world of good even if it wasn't particularly nice weather at the moment. Zach had never really minded gloomy weather, it tended to reflect how he felt inside most of the time anyway. He might not look gloomy on the outside but Zach carried around a sadness that only the most observant people would ever pick up on. Thankfully most people weren't that observant and they took what they saw on the surface because he didn't want everyone he met to ask him why he looked so sad or what was wrong with him all the time.

Just because he had to be at the store though didn't mean that he had to be inside, he knew if he stayed inside he'd just get in the way and slow the work down so he'd taken a table and chair from inside and set himself up outside the front door. Sampson was asleep by his feet, the dog not bothered by the noise coming from inside but then that hardly surprised Zach, his faithful friend rarely flinched at loud noises. Zach was trying to read a book which he'd found lying on the table and was working on what must have been his tenth cup of coffee for the day. It was a good thing he had a higher than normal tolerance for caffeine or he'd have been buzzing by now.

Desperate times call for desperate measures

Who: Logan, Maya, & Maxine
Where: Scarlet Oak High School -- the Barrier
When: dusk, around 6:30pm

Though he'd stayed behind when Omega had originally gone to scout out the happenings at the high school, Logan could honestly say his curiosity had gotten the better of him. He wasn't even sure if his skills would even be useful, but either way, he had gone out with a few of the others to study the site. There were several groups milling about where they were able, with the National Guard keeping up a loose cordon to restrict access to the barrier itself. Which, if Logan had any say in it, would not be the case if he felt he needed to get closer. How in the world would he be able to reach the barrier if those uniforms stood in his way? He scanned the area, taking in the way the military was switching out their people every so often. It wasn't like he could just sneak up on them, but there must be a way to get closer. Pulling that train of thought up short, Logan squinted in the direction of the barrier, brow furrowed and gaze intense. Turning his head to the side, at the same time that he kept his eyes fixed on the object of fascination, Logan bit down on his lower lip before forming the question he wanted to ask.

"When you came here initially, were the authorities blocking the entrance this way?" He addressed those members of Omega who had actually gone on the reconnaissance mission. Because a thought had just occurred to Logan, and he was damned if he was about to let the idea of someone barring him access dissuade him. He watched as a member of one of the other groups milling about was stopped and turned away when they got too close. Damn it. Anyone in his group could see how alight with purpose Logan was with the idea that he might be able to read something by touching the barrier. He was usually much more withdrawn and reserved, but he was very nearly trembling with his thoughts. Could he use his Finding abilities? He didn't know anyone inside, so that would be a bit of a drawback. That, and he didn't happen to have anything he might use as a focus, nor did he think that any of the other people about would lend something from one of their children. That would just be an odd question to ask aloud. It wasn't that Logan was shy or ashamed of his skills, but he knew that Omega as a whole needed to keep a low profile. In case the others with him didn't already know what he was planning, Logan turned fully towards those who had come along with him. Intensity in his eyes, Logan felt a wry smile find his lips. "Any objections to me trying to touch the barrier?" Really, it would be up to the people who were much more capable than him at protecting the group to decide, should his idea prove to be less than ideal.

In interesting news...

Who: Maxine and Slevin
When: Late morning
Where: Wherever they're staying

"Reports of street signs reading as hieroglyphic symbols...Wow more reports of accidents on that intersection, did people suddenly forget how to drive? Nah, this is fishy." Maxine was talking to herself as she scrolled down the various news sites she was browsing for news of Scarlet Oak's latest odd occurrence: A great number of accidents on the same intersection which had caused it to be closed off until further notice. At first Maxine had thought it might just be a problematic intersection with bad signalization or visibility, but the way officials spoke without saying much had her 'spider sense' tingling before long.

Naturally, research followed the first television report in which they announced the closing of the streets in question, and Maxine found reports of street signs that weren't in English - or in any language most people could make out. In fact, some people reported it as hieroglyphs, which, well, sounded weird and interesting and like something worth seeing. It also sounded like fishy magic of some sort and then there was that problem of car crashes potentially killing people. She wasn't sure this was a matter for Omega yet, but it was worth keeping an eye on.

Maxine swung her chair back and forth as she scrolled with one hand and drank some awful dirty water-like cappuccino from a machine with the other. Living in motels was better than living in cars, but not when it came to this kind of thing.

On the highway to hell

Who: OMEGA, bitches
When: Mid-morning
Where: About an hour outside Scarlet Oak to start
What: Arrival

Maya hadn't been pleased to give up her ride to Logan as he left to investigate the wolf situation, but it had made the most sense - the smallest vehicle went to the single person departing. He couldn't take the equipment van, not if he wanted to give Teddy an aneurysm, and it didn't make sense for one man to take the SUV and leave a car that sat four at best for the six of them. So for the long trip to Michigan, Maya was stuck driving the equipment van. But though she missed the power and handling of her usual vehicle, it couldn't be helped.

They'd been driving for most of the night, which Maya tended to prefer. Her night vision meant she didn't have any visibility problems, and there was less traffic to negotiate - which meant fewer people who might notice their passing. The last stop had been a rest station a few hours back, and a protein bar and cup of coffee had meant she was good to keep going for a while longer. As it happened, though, the GPS mounted in the car showed they were just over an hour from their final destination.

Picking up the two-way radio sitting on the dash, she hit the button to radio the SUV that Ash was driving, with Ice and Maxine for company. Teddy and Slevin had drawn the short straws to ride with her. "Exit for 94 coming up in two miles. That should take us straight into town."
