It was Jillian's first birthday in her new home, and that was a little scary. But a little fear never stopped Jillian from doing what she wanted or what she thought was right. Besides, fear could be exciting. She'd signed a lease agreement earlier in the day on an apartment--her birthday present to herself. Then, in a process no one but Jillian could completely comprehend, she managed to pack up most of her clothes and pick out an outfit for the birthday party she was throwing herself at the same time. By 7:30 her things were back in their boxes and suitcases, and Jillian was dressed and ready to go. None of her friends should have any trouble spotting her when they got to the bar.

It was a beautiful day outside and it was once again reasonably safe to go outside without worrying about being disemboweled, so Erika did what any reasonable Scarlet Oak native would do: She went to Riverfest. Erika and Petunia consumed a truly impressive amount of food between the two of them, and after trying and failing to get her familiar to hold still long enough to get all the barbecue sauce out of her fur, Erika just laughed and gave up. She would just have to settle for the minor victory of keeping the sauce off her own clothes.
