Just a walk in the Park

Who: Billie and Charlene.
Where: Berry Days' Festival.
When: Early Afternoon.
What: Just Billie walking around.
Why: Because Tessa was starting to look at her like a hawk would look a nightingale after a week of fast,

So, outside wasn't that bad.

Actually, it was pretty good. It wasn't a big surprise for Billie, but still, self-assurance worked wonders with her. Walking with a small bag of strawberries under her right arm, she had to wonder why she hadn't walked out more. Because I'm a coward of sorts? Yes, that was helpful. Still, the festival was pretty nice, and considering her animal side ate only plants and bugs, looking at the strawberries was slowly building an apetite on the young were. She needed to ask Tessa to drive her around the town more, so she could arrive at different places by herself; what was the point on flying somewhere if she was going to end up naked? Nobody would attend her like that. Or get way too much attention...

She was thinking about all the wrong things that afternoon.

"Strawberries, strawberries. S-traw-be-rrie-s-s-s." It was a mutter/song/humming sound that she had been doing, her pleasant mood showing, regardless of her thoughts. She always had a way to sound more concerned than she actually was. Her humming was pretty nice to the ears too, although she wasn't paying attention, but people around her would turn to listen to the tune as she passed. Should someone point it out, Billie's voice would probably break and die for a good while.

Maybe she should buy a bigger bag?

I always wanted to know a mermaid

Who: Charlene, Kat & Roxy
Where: Redleaf Lake
When: 3:00 p.m.

Excited? No way, Kat was worlds above excited, she was thrilled and ecstatic and practically bubbling over because she got to see Roxy! It felt like it'd been years since she'd seen her big sister. First she'd been kicked out and then she'd just vanished to god knew where when the demons came. Kat had practically worried herself sick over that but then she'd found out that yeah, Roxy was fine and even better, she got to see her! And her mermaid girlfriend. Hard to really tell what part was more exciting for the moment. Both mixed together, Kat decided as she fiddled with her hair. Way too blonde and natural since her mother had gotten away with bleaching it back, but at least the rest of her outfit made up for it with the black and pink bits she wanted in her hair so much. Luckily she'd manage to slip out of the house without her mom seeing that she wasn't wearing a shit because for whatever reason that was a big deal. Not like it mattered since she was just going to be swimming anyhow. In this god-awful heat there was no way she was staying out of the lake.

"Roxy!" Kat shouted as she reached the edge of the lake, flicking her sunglasses up to peer at the water and then around at the surrounding area. Ugh, she felt like she was going to melt if she stayed in the sun much longer. Shrugging, she kicked off her flip-flops and wriggled out of her shorts before plopping right down in the shallow water, delighted at the cool water that went right up to her stomach. After a moment of relaxing she glanced around. Roxy had to be there somewhere. Unless she was running late. Maybe her make-up had been messed up or something, who knew?

Nobody ever learns

Who: Charlene and Dagmar
Where: Redleaf Lake
When: Late evening

Being back from the ocean was, without a doubt, depressing. Once Roxy had left to return to that life she had to live Charlene had been left in the river, staring at the partially still-together walls of the sunken ship she resided in. And beyond them was the surface, a shade more green than blue that only served to remind her of where she was. Where she was not. Poking her head out of the ship, restless because sleeping had not been happening so well the past few nights, she had sighed at the sight of the riverbank walls. No, tonight she could not stay there again. Relearning alone was one thing but cramped? No, not tonight. The lake was a little bigger, a little deeper, perhaps she could fool herself when she was there and hope that the other merfolk who might live there would not take offense. Last thing that she wanted was to have any sort of fight. Maybe tomorrow when she had slept and was better off.

Even Redleaf Lake was not enough for her that night. Floating along the surface, Charlene dipped her hands down to pull up a few long strands of seaweed - why do they even call it the same? It's not the same! It tastes so different and the texture is abhorrent and the smell... she hated the smell most - and began to braid them together. Perhaps a little session of arts and crafts would help to lull her off. The fact that she was floating on the surface of a lake in the same general area where a hunter had tried to kill her not too terribly long ago, her side aching just at the flicker of a memory, bothered her not at all. She doubted that something like that would happen twice. It was so late at night and humans did sleep.

Make my heart a better place

Who: Charlene and Roxy
Where: The river
When: Morning

"Why can't you be a dolphin?"

Charlene's voice was serious as she propped her chin up in her hands, staring at the painted turtle sharing the fallen tree with her that morning. All of these freshwater animals were really starting to bother her. None of them possessed enough wits to talk back with her. None of them could sing and none of them tasted near as good as their saltwater counterparts. It was almost like they had simply had all of the interesting traits filtered right out of them. Even the aquatic plantlife was colorless in comparison. Oh sure, the occasional bright green bloom of algae or seaweed appeared, but they were not near as common as she thought they should be. But really, what she missed was talking with the dolphins and whales. "You could at least try talking." Charlene rolled her eyes as she reached out to prod at the turtle. She wanted to have someone to talk to because it had been over a day since she had. Half a year ago she would have been fine without talking, or at least more used to it, but that had changed. "Move?"

It just blinked at her. Sighing, the mermaid rolled onto her back, tail disturbing the surface of the water as she moved. It was not really the turtle's fault it could not talk and besides, even if it could she would not have been satisfied. Like she wanted to talk to a turtle. What she really wanted was for that Adelle-girl to be proven right. And that? Seemed a little less likely today than it had the day before since Roxy was, clearly, still not there. "You know," the mermaid spoke to the turtle again, reaching out to scoop it up since it was trying to slip back into the river. "You should be able to talk! Sea turtles can... you're half the size of them." Her dark eyes were serious as she regarded the turtle that had suddenly retreated into its shell, small eyes blinking out from the darkness of its retreat. "Least you could do is try..."

Easier to try talking to a turtle than to think about the fact that she was going to be spending another day alone because Nixie was gone and Roxy, well, maybe Adelle had just been trying to make her feel better. "I'll give her two more days," she informed the shelled turtle. "Then I'll do what Nixie wanted." Its little head poked out. "No, I don't have a real reason... I just want to wait. That okay with you?"
