I always wanted to know a mermaid
Who: Charlene, Kat & Roxy
Where: Redleaf Lake
When: 3:00 p.m.

Excited? No way, Kat was worlds above excited, she was thrilled and ecstatic and practically bubbling over because she got to see Roxy! It felt like it'd been years since she'd seen her big sister. First she'd been kicked out and then she'd just vanished to god knew where when the demons came. Kat had practically worried herself sick over that but then she'd found out that yeah, Roxy was fine and even better, she got to see her! And her mermaid girlfriend. Hard to really tell what part was more exciting for the moment. Both mixed together, Kat decided as she fiddled with her hair. Way too blonde and natural since her mother had gotten away with bleaching it back, but at least the rest of her outfit made up for it with the black and pink bits she wanted in her hair so much. Luckily she'd manage to slip out of the house without her mom seeing that she wasn't wearing a shit because for whatever reason that was a big deal. Not like it mattered since she was just going to be swimming anyhow. In this god-awful heat there was no way she was staying out of the lake.

"Roxy!" Kat shouted as she reached the edge of the lake, flicking her sunglasses up to peer at the water and then around at the surrounding area. Ugh, she felt like she was going to melt if she stayed in the sun much longer. Shrugging, she kicked off her flip-flops and wriggled out of her shorts before plopping right down in the shallow water, delighted at the cool water that went right up to her stomach. After a moment of relaxing she glanced around. Roxy had to be there somewhere. Unless she was running late. Maybe her make-up had been messed up or something, who knew?

It had felt like forever since Roxy saw her kid sister and she had been dying to hang out with her. Life had been turn upside down since the penguin-girl left home and moved in with Alanna. Well, hopefully temporarily. Roxy wasn't even too sure on how that was all going to work out in the long run. Part of her hoped to be welcomed back by her family, but who knew what was going to happen. Hell, Kat's birthday was right around the corner! She wanted to be present for that, whether her parents liked it or not.Shit, I still need to buy her something...

Roxy was a bit of a ways down the lake with Charlene, just about to kick off her flip flops and chill in the water until Kat arrived. Luckily for her, the tiny penguin called at her name just before she did that. Roxy's face lit up upon hearing her sister's voice, squeeing lightly before tugging at Charlene's arm. "Oh my god, that's her! Come on!" Throwing her beach bag over her shoulder, she darted down the edge of the lake and shouted on back, "Kat!" Running in the heat wasn't ideal for her, but holy crap, she hadn't seen the little girl in forever! Running was required right about then. Upon catching up to Kat, she moved her bangs to the side, grumbling while she shook away a few, loose strands that fell out, and then pulled her sister into a tight embrace. "Oh my god, I feel like I it's been forever! I've missed you soooooo much, kiddo!"

She eventually let her go and went right into picking and smoothing out her sister's head. "Wow, back to blonde? Mom actually like, approved of you committing chemical warfare against your hair without me around?" She giggled at the thought, approving of her kid sister regardless. Looking over her shoulder, she smiled widely, while motioning over to Charlene. "Don't be shy, Lene! This is my kid sister, Kat. The little penguin I was telling you about."

In her human form, and wearing another one of those sundresses that she was growing so fond of - pale green this time - Charlene was eager to go back into the water. It was far too hot out for her tastes, reminding her of that day when K-lee had left her laying in the sun and her skin had felt as though it caught fire, and they were just about to go back in when someone called for Roxy. Glancing up, the mermaid followed Roxy's gaze until she found what she was looking at. A little blonde human - no, she's a were, Roxy said she was like her - settled in the water like Charlene wanted to be. She followed along at a slower pace, having never been a really good runner since legs were one of those things she was not one hundred percent used to, hanging back while the sisters reunited. For a moment she felt a pang of jealousy, acutely aware that her own sister was tides knew where. Sure they had been fighting but that did not mean she had wanted her to go away.

Reaching up to push a piece of hair behind her ear, Charlene offered a smile and gave a little wave at Kat when she stepped up next to Roxy. There were definitely similarities between the two although - wait, that was extremely interesting. Tilting her head, Charlene reached out to touch the bracelet that Kat was wearing, enjoying the interesting texture along with the mix of colors. Was it metal? Curious, Charlene looked back at Roxy and then the bracelet with a questioning shrug of her shoulders and a click of her tongue. Yes, she was interested in meeting Roxy's sister but at that precise moment in time her interest was all zoned in on that fascinating bracelet.

Before Kat had really settled in or gotten used to the water she heard Roxy shouting her name. "Roxy!" Kat yelled back, waving her arms frantically and bouncing on up to her feet. "it has been forever! You've been like, gone! And stuff! And I don't like it at all. Audrey's not as much fun and it she won't get me new hair dye or a new piercing and oh my god mom's crazy and she didn't let me do this, she did it herself!" Making a frustrated noise she still allowed Roxy to fix her hair. Knew way better than to try getting in her sister's way of doing things like, especially since oh, she had to fix that piece of hair too. Roxy was busy fixing her hair and Kat was focused on rearranging her sister's shirt and the little girl hardly noticed the other person. Until Roxy said something to her.

"Oh, oh you're Charlene!" Kat said, smiling brightly as the woman reached out and touched her bracelet. "Yeah, i know, it's pretty sweet, glad I got it last time I was at the mall." The fact that this was a mermaid was temporarily nowhere near Kat's mind because she was that excited about getting to see Roxy again. Wasn't like it was a daily thing anymore after all. "You've got like... nothing in your hair. At all." Kat stared at Charlene's hair before reaching out to tug at a few pieces, rearranging it here and there to try and make it look better. But that was hard because it looked like she'd never done anything to it ever. Kat's voice suddenly had a whining edge to it and she pouted at Roxy. "Your girlfriend's hair is a mess."

Holy crap. Linda Diaz actually braved the art of hair dying? Really?! Well, it was't that much of a shock if Roxy really thought about it, but.... but... it was BLONDE! Poor Kat needed some streaks of color here in there. How boring! Roxy couldn't even begin to imagine dying her hair back to brown and leaving it the way it was. Blech! Screw that. "I'm totally hooking you up with some hair dye after this," she nodded reassuringly to Kat before looking on over to Charlene. It looked like her girlfriend was completely entranced by her sister's jewelry. Go figure, she did have a thing for shiny stones. Just like how she had to defend her horde of stones at home. Well, now they were neatly stacked on the living room floor at Alanna's apartment. Apparently the coffee table was a no-no.

"Hey! Her hair is not a mess!" She looked back to Charlene and paused, reaching out to smooth out one section of her hair. "You look lovely, Lene, don't you worry." Roxy stuck her tongue out at Kat, finding herself stifling a giggle at her sister's attempt to do... something with Charlene's hair. Then again, she remembered her first date with the mermaid and how she put some product in the poor girl's hair. Looked so much better. Sadly, there didn't seem to be any products on the market that were waterproof enough for a mermaid to use. At least her hair looked pretty in the water. Oh, speaking of... "Kat's been dying to see you as a mermaid. I think she like, made me pinky swear or something to have us all chill and stuff." And as much as she liked Charlene in that dress, she knew she looked just stunning in her true form. Not to mention she could talk then! She doubted Kat would have the patience to wait for each response to be written out on paper.

Blinking against the sudden assault on her hair, Charlene just turned wide eyes to Roxy, grateful when the pink-haired girl saved her from Kat's hands. What was it with humans saying that there needed to be something in her hair? She put things in her hair all of the time! Seaweed and pretty shells that she found... but she had a feeling that maybe that was not what they meant since neither of them had things in there. But Roxy thought she looked good and Charlene smiled at that. All that really mattered. Not like she was out to try and impress this little blonde were who had a bit of metal through her nose instead of her lip. That definitely did not look like it was as much fun.

When being a mermaid was mentioned, Charlene brightened and nodded eagerly. Getting back into the water was exactly what she wanted and with hardly a second's worth of hesitation she was stripping off the dress and heading right into the lake. The fact that she was naked in front of someone new did not even phase her for a moment because she was a mermaid and clothes were an inconvenience for her. It only took a few steps and Charlene could feel herself changing, though she managed to dive into the deeper water before it took full hold. Ahhhh, that's better, she thought as she drifted in the cool water for a moment before letting herself float back up to the surface. "You're coming?" she called out to the weres on the shore. "Water's very nice... can see my tail better here." That was for Kat's benefit since Roxy had said the girl was eager to see her as a mermaid and that was the most noticeable part.

"No, it's a mess," Kat confirmed, sticking her tongue right back out at Roxy. "Not that it looks bad or anything, just messy." Like she'd never been inside a beauty parlor or taught how to use hairspray in her life. Hadn't her mother - ohhhhhhh! That's when it clicked that duh, mermaid. Mermaids didn't have stuff like that under the ocean most likely, though Kat thought it'd be sweet as hell if there was an underwater brand of Herbal Essences or something. She was about to ask if that was possible when her eyes went huge because, uhhh, Roxy's girlfriend was stripping. Reaching out she tugged at Roxy's hand and asked, "Does she do that a lot? Haven't you, like, told her that's totally not normal?"

Nor was the fact that Charlene had just changed into a mermaid. But that not normal was totally awesome and Kat squeed when the mermaid emerged from the water, skin shimmering with hints of silver. There were gills on her neck too!! "Oh my god she's gorgeous! Look at what her skin's doing! That's, like, just like what the vampires do in Twilight! Only cooler because it's silver and not diamond-y and oh my god, Roxy, mermaid!!!" Kat was practically bouncing in place as she started back into the water because she really wanted to check out Charlene's tail. She had a tail. A tail! And this was her normal form! Damn, why hadn't Roxy told her about this sooner? and how come Roxy got all of the cool stuff?

Looking down to Kat, she raised a brow at her before looking over to Charlene and- oh yeah, she was naked. Awesome. It flew right over the pink-haired girl's head that maybe that little act would squick her kid sister a bit. Sharing a bedroom with her sisters was once thing, but this? Yeah, she could see why Kat would freak a bit. "It's normal for a mermaid, apparently. Think of it like a different culture. Like, how people from Socal have a thing for shopping and gossip." Only a true Cali girl would draw some random comparison like that. And in all honesty? Roxy didn't mind Charlene being naked. Why the hell would she, her girlfriend, complain about that? She smirked lightly at the thought before looking back down to Kat.

Seemed like her sister enjoyed seeing a mermaid in person. The penguin pool party was one thing, but this was was up close and personal! She couldn't help but laugh at her sister's reaction, trying her best to gloss over the fact she sort of made a comparison to the lame ass vampires in Twilight. Hopefully Charlene didn't ask about that later, because that was something Roxy did NOT feel like explaining. There would be NO late nights cuddling on the couch and watching Twilight movies. Good god no, it was bad enough when Kat obsessed over them. "Told you she was a mermaid!" She nudged Kat playfully before kicking off her flip flops and tossed her shirt over her head and to the side. "Come on, kiddo, we can go in the water and check out Lene some more. Maybe if you're nice, she'll even sing for you." Whether or not that was a good idea was beyond Roxy, but it probably didn't matter with how giddy Kat was.

Hearing the exclamation, Charlene beamed at the women on the shore as they started in to join her. Now why had her mother and pod always been so against them seeing humans? Well, when they were fishermen and they had been messing with their nets it made sense that they would be a little upset, but everyone else... except that hunter girl who had decided to try killing her. A shudder ran down Charlene's spine at the memory and she pushed it away, focusing instead on Roxy and Kat as they made their way out to her. No need to worry about them drowning or being unable to swim since hello, they were penguins. Water was as much home to them as it was her, or pretty damn close.

Though the comment about her singing for Kat brought a bit of a frown and Charlene shook her head. "Only if she wants," she corrected Roxy when they were in range. The last thing that she needed to do was upset Kat by making her do something she did not want to. And that's what mermaids were particularly good at, getting people to do things they might not otherwise. Unless they were particularly strong-willed. Thinking back on when she had first met Roxy, Charlene felt herself smirking and drifting closer to her girlfriend. "Or I could show how well you listen to my song. Think it's funny."

Wasn't like Kat hadn't seen someone naked before, she did have those same parts, but it was weird to realize that someone actually didn't think about it. "Oh I bet you love that," Kat couldn't help but shoot at Roxy with a wicked grin. She may have only been fifteen but hey, she knew things. And she'd never been able to tease her big sister like this before so she was going to take every last chance available. But before Roxy could do anything, Kat dove beneath the surface and came back up treading water closer to Charlene. Oh yeah, she was definitely having that silver-skin tinge thing going on and that was SO totally a tail. A really long, really pretty tail that seemed to match the tinges to her skin and hair and... eyes? "You're silver. How are you silver?"

Wait, singing? Singing that could make people do things? "Ooooooh," Kat's eyes were wide and she nodded eagerly. "I want to hear the singing. Charlene, I would like, totally love it if you would sing and make Roxy do something. You'd totally earn awesome points for that! And maybe I'd let you have the bracelet since you like it so much." Wasn't it supposed to be a good thing to be on your sister's girlfriend's good side? That just sounded weird, but hey, whatever.

Ok, Kat's little snickering comment? That got some immense blush out of Roxy. Even though she came out to her sister, who was totally cool with everything, she still had her insecurities and that wasn't going to change anytime soon. People accepting her for being a were-penguin everywhere was going to happen faster than everyone accepting her as a lesbian. Whatever. She had Charlene and that was all that mattered right now, even if she was kicked out of her house.

Back onto the topic of the song, Roxy just fluttered her eyes at the mermaid, parting her lips shyly, not knowing how to respond. And it didn't help that Kat suddenly chimed in either. "I... er... WHAT?!" Were her girlfriend and kid sister ganging up on her in this respect? The hell! Then again, Roxy did do an excellent job reacting to Charlene's song, seeing that their first time involved the tricky mermaid luring her in close enough to steal a kiss. Talk about a first time encounter. If she wasn't blushing hard before, then she was now. Probably enough for Kat to call her a lobster again. "I... um... like, if you don't mind, Lene, then... sure, what the hell, why not. Kat's been totally dying to hear and see you sing." And five bucks said that she would brag to her friends about her older sister being under control of a mermaid. Awesome.

Look at how Roxy was blushing! That was possibly the brightest red Charlene had seen her turn since that afternoon by the river when she had become curious about her breasts. For a moment the mermaid's mind drifted off and she had to remind herself that Kat was right there, and that Roxy would probably freak out if she did certain things, clearing her throat to buy herself a moment to actually think of what to say. She did like how Kat was going along with the idea of seeing Roxy react to her song though. I think Roxy's sister is a lot more accepting of this than mine. If anything, the girl seemed intrigued by Charlene's differences from a human, not bothered by them at all. "Silver because I was born that way," she explained. "Sister, Nixie, is a darker gray. Roxy's seen her." Did not like her but that was not what they were discussing right then.

"I don't mind," Charlene assured Roxy with a smile. "Liked what happened last time." Never had she gotten such a pleasant, positive reaction out of singing to someone. Motioning to Kat, she placed her hands over her ears, wanting her to do that so that the song would not get to her so much. Oh she would still hear it, but hopefully she would not have a desire to react. That would get awkward. Once the blonde girl had done as Charlene wished, she turned back to Roxy and drew in a deep breath before beginning to sing. The words were none that either of the were's would understand since it was in Charlene's native tongue, but the words did not matter. What did was the meaning and the unique sort of magic that was twined in each one, flowing out like a spell that she did not even think to cast. Far, far better than the song of a siren if you asked her because it could affect everyone, not just men. And really, all she was doing was trying to get Roxy to turn into a penguin and do something adorable. Nothing that she thought the pink-haired girl would not do all on her own.

Now that Roxy had turned red there was no way that Kat wasn't going to let this happen. "Tomaaaaato," she teased in a sing-song voice, splashing a bit of water at her sister. Turning towards Charlene she spoke in a stage whisper, cupping her hand over her mouth so that it looked like she was trying to keep Roxy from hearing. "Those are this vegetable - or fruit - thing that we eat. They're really, really red and Roxy toooootally like, looks just like one when she gets all embarrassed. Like right now!" Giggling, Kat pointed at Roxy and then did as Charlene wanted and cupped her hands over her ears. If the mermaid could make people do things they she definitely didn't want to hear. Maybe a little bit... maybe after Roxy did something.

Floating there, Kat watched, wide-eyed and curious, to see what her sister would do. Although she was feeling the oddest desire to go and turn into a penguin. Because wouldn't that be the most awesome thing ever? Show off her form to Charlene?

Oh wow, really? They were going to bring up Nixie? Roxy was doing so well without that fish brain in her life. Ok, so it was Charlene's sister and all, but the damn bitch didn't want them together! Roxy preferred her being gone and nowhere in any topic of conversation. Thank god Charlene didn't dwell on that. If anything, Kat was there to take her mind off of the evil sister that was Nixie. Kat was good like that.

"I. AM. NOT. A. TOMATO," Roxy flailed about, splashing some more water back at Kat. "And don't be giving Lene any ideas, either!" Last thing she needed was her own girlfriend poking at her cheeks and also calling her a tomato. Then again, Charlene's last encounter with a tomato involved squishing it, so... yeah, let's hope they didn't go in that direction. Roxy was just about to add onto her barrage of words at Kat, but paused once Charlene broke out into song. Oh god, there she went. The pink-haired girl stopped everything she was doing and just looked on over to the mermaid as she felt herself grow lost in a trance. Then before she knew it, she instantly shifted into her penguin form and started swimming circles around her girlfriend, letting out a series of happy honks in the process.
