Sing about the things that matter Who: Charlene and Roxy Where: Alanna's apartment When: Evening
To say that Charlene had gotten lost on her way to where Roxy lived, or was living now, would have been a terrible understatement. No less than three times she had ended up attempting to ask for directions until finally someone, sensing either her distress or thinking that she was just unintelligent, drew her a map. Despite her general mistrust for those who walked on land and thinking that they all, well, needed to learn a few things. Apparently so do I. Shaking the thought off, Charlene shrugged to readjust the leather bag she took everywhere with her as she peered up at the building that Roxy was supposedly in. What seemed like far too many lights blinked out at her and she imagined that every single light represented a person. A landwalker who could just as easily do to her what that hunter had. It took a few moments for her to go to what she assumed was the door and glance around, biting at her lip. What were those things?!
Wait. She remembered them from a painting she had seen somewhere. They were called stairs and were used so that humans could make their buildings taller, more efficient. And they were completely closed in without even a single window to make them appear less ominous. Had she been able to then Charlene would have whimpered as she realized that to get where Roxy told her to go she was going to have to use them. Giving her head a firm shake the mermaid drew in a deep breath, wishing for nothing so much as a simple stream to swim in, and managed to go up three steps before she felt like everything was closing in on her. Squeezing her eyes shut against the silver specks that had started to swim in her vision the mermaid sank down onto one of the steps with her arms wrapped around her knees, rocking slightly as she tried to banish the feeling of being closed in and the memory of that cave where her sisters had trapped her so many decades ago.
So much for getting around human things on her own. Nixie would never let her live this down if she found out.
