We had a really great Basic Self Defense class today. I know everyone's still getting warmed up to one another, but I appreciate everyone's hard work and courage. I know it takes a lot of bravery to get up in front of strangers and try to force your body to do things it has not previously done before, but we all start somewhere!
Even Director Conley, the most badass fighter I've ever seen, was once a helpless...child, if you can imagine that...at least I think he was. Had to be, right? Point is, even he had to learn how to become immortal and kick ass and he probably didn't look super cool back thenI wonder if he was bald as a kid...that would be funny, but he's pretty much Bruce Lee meets the Wolverine meets a literal brick shithouse now, is the point.
Check out his and Agent Huang's Advance S.D. classes if you're feeling a little more confident with your skills, they're excellent. Agent Williams also has a Basic S.D. class and he is a badass as well, so you'll be in good hands with either of us. For this week only, considering the recent events, I'll take last minute sign-ups for my class if anyone is feeling like they could use a little help on defending themselves. Just come by next Monday, nothing formal required.
For our Superhero Mythology class this week, I want everyone to be thinking about their personal totem. Last week we started with picking a hero that you identify with most, maybe with a similar power as your own atavism, and they'll be your hero for the rest of the class. (Like for example, mine is Hiro Nakamura, from the Heroes universe, because obvious reasons that I would LOVE to go in depth on but will save it for class because people tend to not read this far into my network posts anyway.) You'll be presenting your final project on that hero and of course on yourself and your own origin story, real or made up. And this week you're going to think about some object or possession that is your personal totem or some symbol you'd like associated with you, that's meaningful to you. I'd also love to know if anyone, outside of the class, has a totem or object or symobl that's always been meaningful to you!
