Over the last six months, Project: Ascension have led research into the cause of atavism. On behalf of the talented group of researchers who worked tirelessly on this project, I would like to announce our findings.
We have identified and isolated the gene that causes atavism in humans. That is to say, atavism is genetic and therefore passed down the genetic line. It lies dormant within human DNA until activation. How much of the population has the potential for atavism is currently unclear.
If the potential for atavism is never activated, the gene is still carried. This means the children of atavists or those with the atavism gene are more likely to carry it than those who do not.
Furthermore, two atavists of blood relation are more likely to have related abilities. This can be attributed to similar patterns in the sequence of their DNA. It is not certain, and the connection may not be obvious, but extensive research has identified clear links.
These findings would not have been possible if not for the residents of New York, atavist volunteers who came forward to take part in testing. Their time and assistance is of great value. Project: Ascension are proud to work with our fellow atavists, and we are pleased to be able to share this information with you as we move closer to unlocking some of the mysteries of atavism.
More research must be done, and Project: Ascension will endeavour to inform the public of updates as soon as possible.
More details will be published in a paper shortly.
