There has been a lot of news, not a stellar amount of it good, in the last few weeks, in this month, and I have seen a lot of people dealing with it as they can best (and not seen plenty more, it's not all out on social media); I have been thinking and doing my own... reflection, down a few varied paths. We have many sources of information about our lives, about what is going on with atavism (including the project, bulletin, mal, and everyone who wants to share their thoughts here); people ask critical questions and debate what atavism means. Earlier I asked people how atavism changed their lives, and what their lives are like now. And well, that was a beginning, but I would like to study it, in as scientific a way as I can, using my training as a linguistic anthropologist. Simply put, we all have and know a true experience of atavism, a small part to a larger whole (though perhaps larger a part than in the general matter of the city, the state, or beyond). Within those there is more to be known about ourselves and the lives we lead. I believe being informed about that, being aware of how our words, our conversations on atavist only media, our disconnections from baselines in our lives, etc affect who we are, and how our identity shapes the words we use. And I offer an open invitation to everyone to take part, even MAL. If any... public MAL members would be interested in participating from a distance, we already have a means of communication. I may also at some point write a survey, so that people can anonymously provide input. No one, in anything I write up, will be named or have identifying information used without consent.
