I have some good news to report: the Mother has been recovered and is safe in Project custody.

As a gesture of goodwill, the leaders of the Movement transferred possession of the Mother back to where she belongs. This is the first step in a process to broker an armistice with the MAL.

Of note is the absence of Leonardo Barone from this process. His location is unknown and the representatives of the MAL claim he went AWOL. He should still be considered a wanted individual.

As operations director it's my privilege to inform the seven of you that you've been selected to participate in our "superhero" initiative. What this means for you in the immediate term is as follows:

- Each of you will need to come up with a code name, subject to approval by the leadership team.
- You will meet with costume designers, who have already started work on individualized costumes.
- You will attend media training tomorrow at 0800. The training is mandatory, Agent Pérez.
- If you would like input as to the team name, now would be the time.
- You will be introduced to the public tomorrow evening following media training.

I've been unable to contact Agent Barone and unable to locate her on Governors Island. I hesitate to use the phrase "missing person", so for now let's say she's unaccounted for. While it's unlike Agent Barone to go AWOL, I don't know that anything official is warranted at this point, so let's just say if you manage to contact her, ask her to check in.

To the atavist community:

For those that don't know me, my name is Elliott Conley and I'm Project: Ascension's deputy director for operations. I wanted to distribute some information to my fellow atavists.

At the end of July, the Project conducted a counter-terrorist operation targeting the group known as the Movement for Atavist Liberation. During the execution of that mission, the Project apprehended a high-ranking member of the MAL. This individual, Maddox Archer, is currently being held in Project custody awaiting trial by the United States Attorney General on charges of conspiracy, providing material support for terrorism, and destruction of public property.

In addition, at the beginning of last week, an attempt was made on the life of Colonel Corrine Harper, the Project's deputy director for communications, by Christian Russo. The would-be assassin, a MAL double agent, was killed in the process. This serves as a stark reminder of how vigilant we all must be, as well as the futility of an organization like the MAL.

If you have any questions, myself or one of my colleagues will be glad to answer to the best of our abilities, so long as you understand the sensitive nature of these events. Thank you all.

Let me go into a bit more detail for the team.

After interrogating our prisoner, Maddox Archer, we've confirmed that he joined the Movement shortly after resigning from the Project. He was one of the group's initial recruits. He claims - and Agent Barajas has confirmed that he at least believes he is telling the truth - that Christian Russo was not a MAL agent. However, per our interrogation of Jared Thomas, only Leo Barone and one closer adviser knew of Thomas' status as a double agent, so it's possible that Archer knew about neither.

I'd like a report from the teams working on the Russo case. What have our search and interrogation teams come up with?

I wanted to fill you all in on the outcome of the mission.

First and foremost, I wanted to thank you all for your dedication and hard work. Each of you, whether you participated in the ambush last night or not, has put your life on the line for this community, and that courage and dedication deserves praise.

Now to business. After leaking false information about a shipment of materials the R&D team used in our suits, on July 30 a team of operatives ambushed a group of MAL insurgents who aimed to steal these materials. Thanks to the excellent work of our team, the enemy force was repelled after suffering heavy casualties.

Some of you may have heard that a MAL operative was taken into custody. I can confirm that we did apprehend one person on the scene, and that that person was Maddox Archer, a former member of this Project. Archer is currently unresponsive, and his condition is critical, but he is undergoing medical treatment as we speak. He is considered a threat and thus is being held at the highest security clearance, with no visitors allowed at this time.

I want to again thank each of you, and I hope you will keep those of your comrades who sustained injuries in your thoughts. We wish them all a swift recovery.

Agent Esposito, I'm putting you in charge of looking into this so-called cure everyone seems so worked up about. I want you to find out where it's coming from, who's responsible, and if there's even an ounce of truth or science behind it. I'm sure there isn't, but we need to cover our bases. If you need more boots on the ground, you're authorized to round up anyone who's free. This is a priority.

This is a reminder that your reports on and basic demonstrations of a martial art of your choosing are due in two weeks' time. Rest assured that your demonstrations don't need to be complex. Enough to give a general sense of technique and form is all that's required. Your report should detail the history, theory, and evolution of your chosen system. Make sure to consult your handouts for grading guidelines.

It's more important than ever that we're vigilant. If you have misgivings, trust yourself and report them. I know some of you have been working specifically on rooting out MAL sympathizers - any leads?

Given what seems to be our new reality, however temporary - traitors on the network - it might be prudent to review some protocols. Physical security, detainee policy. I'm sure there are other areas that could use shoring up. This may be a setback, but if we learn and improve from it, it's not a complete loss.

For tomorrow's class I'd like everyone to come prepared with their favorite depiction of hand-to-hand combat in popular media. We'll go over a few and I can begin to show you why so many of the techniques in films and TV are practically useless in an a real-world scenario. From there we'll be moving on theory and then to actual practice.

Jared Thomas is now the subject of an investigation into the MAL attack at the Battery Maritime Building. He was confronted by Agent Tate and swam the bay. It is critical that we locate him before he flees the city or disappears underground. I need all available agents to pair off and participate in the search. Agent Tate and I are heading out immediately. Contact us if he's located.

Now that things have calmed down a bit, we need to think about how to move forward. It's clear that we have an information leak. What's not clear is what kind of leak, whether it was one-time or ongoing, and what we're going to do about it.
