I don't envy a detective’s job. Detective work in New York's like looking for a needle in a thousand haystacks. I've tapped a couple old friends from the precinct who work that neighbourhood and they're running some shit for me, but it's been slow-going. I’m asking Felix if he can give us another hand.

If this is how the Project goes down, then I'll go down with the ship. But part of why I stayed with the Project for three and a half years was because I believed we could do good. We could provide some structure. We could keep the community standing even if they hated us. They hate us and they don't respect us, but whatever the future of the Project, we're all atavists. If we stopped trying to protect the community, did we ever really belong here?

The other part was because I hated my powers. I quit my career because I couldn't control them. I went through one of the shittiest times of my life and fell into a depression I'm sometimes not sure I've shaken. I still struggle with liking my powers, but the Project helped me to hate them less. I learned how to use them for protection. I learned how to fight with them. It might not have been the only way to do that, but the point is that it happened with the Project. I became a part of something here. Whatever the shitstorm we're going through, I believe that we can still protect people from the worst the world offers us. Even without the Project, I would fight for people. I wasn't a cop for the perks. I would lay down my life to save someone else's.

There's still something to hold onto here, for me. I don't know if we can make promises anymore, but to the people I love and respect, all I can promise is that I'm going to keep trying.

What do you do with grudges you've held on to for so long that you're too tired to hold onto anymore? Don't say "just let it go", because that's the part I can't figure out how to do.

Ruby's birthday is tomorrow, and in the interest of keeping things casual and lowkey, you're all invited to the following tomorrow after standard work hours: dinner, dancing, and if there's energy left, indoor rock climbing. Worst case, we'll wing it. I've made reservations for a max of 11 at [OH GOD INSERT NICE RESTAURANT HERE] for 6:30 under my name. If you need to check out at any point during the night, go for it.

Oliver and I will pick her up after work, and we'll probably be there first with her. And in case I didn't make it clear, it's meant to be a surprise. Dress however you want, but I recommend comfortable shoes for if rock climbing happens.

I haven't talked a lot about my past as a cop, but I'm about to talk about it now. My partner when I worked vice was atavized, and I was there for his atavization last week. He's taking it surprisingly well, but like all of us when we were first atavized, I doubt he's feeling especially balanced. I didn't want to say anything until he first popped up on the network, but there he is.

The European Space Agency (ESA) claims that if you somehow got accidentally locked inside their Large European Acoustic Facility (LEAF) for testing the acoustic resiliency of their satellites, you wouldn't survive the sonic onslaught. A key factor here is that you'd be in an enclosed space. Outside, sound waves disperse and dissipate too quickly to reach lethal levels. That hasn't stopped researchers from investigating the use of sound as a weapon. It's been calculated, for instance, that it would require 240 dB to make a human head explode. That's a whole lot of decibels. It would be next to impossible to generate this level of noise. Even when the ESA's LEAF cranks its sound up to peak intensity, it's only putting out around 154 dB [source: ESA].
