into the wild, i'm with a mission.
Who: Jackson and Tessa (and possibly Inaki [NPC]).
Where: Lida's house and the surrounding area.
When: Early afternoon.
It might have seemed strange to others to ask someone you barely knew to carry your clothes for you in a rucksack while you loped along in wolf form but Jackson didn't think anything of it. He didn't transform in front of Tessa, of course, but he did come out of the foliage behind the dojo with the bag between his teeth, which he went on to set down at her feet. He'd asked her beforehand, explaining to her that it would be easier for him to track a scent in wolf form; if nothing else it was less conspicuous for an animal to sniff the ground than it was for a grown man. So when they'd set out Jackson had led the way on four legs instead of two, trusting his nose to lead the way. And lead the way it did.
The two of them got some strange looks but every now and then Jackson wandered back to Tessa's side and padded along at her heels, acting for all intents and purposes like that was where he belonged. A little degrading, yes, but more responsible in the long run. People were less likely to freak out and call the cops if they thought he was some mellow domesticated cross-breed dog -- not that he could really pass for one -- or even a tame wolf, familiar or otherwise. Jackson had more important things than his pride to worry about and so he maintained the act for the entirety of their journey, working his way ahead to get an idea of where the scent was going before winding his way back to Tessa's side and guiding her along, keeping his ears and eyes open for danger of any sort.
Even down at his low level Jackson could see that they had crossed from one part of Scarlet Oak clean into another, certainly a wealthier part if the sizes and styles of the homes were any indication. An actual home wasn't what he had been expecting to say the least, though he wasn't really sure what he had been expecting. An abandoned building? The basement level of some old warehouse? Did Scarlet Oak even have properties like that? Jackson didn't know a lot about vampires, that much was certain, but what he did know was not to underestimate them. The same could be said of any supernatural, and this was where his natural caution would come in handy.
When they came to a house where the scent he had been following was prevalent enough to tell the werewolf they had reached their destination, he did his best to guide Tessa into some bushes across the street, under the shadow of a large tree between yards, while he performed a cursory patrol of the property's perimeter, cautiously working his way closer to check for any signs of movement. Could vampires move around during the day, or was that a hollow myth, much like a weres need for the moon to transform? Jackson wished he knew. Maybe Tessa knew.
Only when he was certain there was nothing skulking around the house -- peeking in through a window after hopping up onto his hind legs whilst balancing his front paws on a windowsill showed him that much -- did he make his way back to Tessa. Without making a sound he reached up and nipped the bottom of the rucksack between his teeth, prompting his companion to let him take it from her. Taking the bag with him, he worked his way deeper into cover to change, hurrying his way through the process and pulling on the clothes he pulled from the bag, boots and all. There was one extra item in the bag that could potentially cause more problems than it might solve, but Jackson hadn't been able to leave it behind. It explained the light jacket he pulled on when he didn't really need one, but it provided a little extra cover for the weapon that he tucked carefully into his waistband.
Rejoining Tessa behind the tree he shoved the now-empty bag under the closest bush. They would reclaim it when they left. Raking his fingers through his hair -- it was always dishevelled after he changed from wolf to man -- he glanced once again at the house and then met Tessa's gaze. "I think the place is empty," he told her, lifting his brows a little as if to say feel like a little breaking and entering?
