Unlikely

Who: Jack, Gretel/Penny and Ava
Where: The park
When: After dark

At around the time his mother came 'home' Jack decided it was impossible to stay there anymore. The way she talked about "you freaks" and how "you should all have died anyway", coupled with the fact that he was now certain that he had somehow felt this was going to happen but didn't do anything to stop it - and couldn't have, because he didn't know for sure if anything was going to happen, let alone what it was - had done a number in his already depressive mind. He had thrown his ramen in his mother's direction and left, knowing fully well there would be hell to pay when he returned. Maybe this was the time he wouldn't be able to take anymore and finally kill her or, with a bit of luck, maybe he would never come back home in the first place.

He was shaking as he walked, and by the time he got to the Scarlet Oak park Jack could no longer walk properly anymore, so he sat down on a bench in the dark, trembling. There was a broken bottle nearby, and without thinking Jack managed to get a smaller piece of the glass, which he observed for a while. Then, he pulled his sleeve up and slashed away at his arm. He wasn't sure whether he was harming himself not to harm anyone else - namely, his mother - or if he was punishing himself for being useless, so utterly useless that he had felt a catastrophe was about to happen but couldn't do anything to stop it.

Either way the pain felt good, made him feel better and made his heartbeat slow down little by little. It was a good thing that the only light was coming from a streetlamp across the pathway, since the one near the bench wasn't working. Jack preferred to break down like this in the dark, if he had to do it in public. Beyond the guilt were the harsh words his mother had told him, hammering at his head like so many instances before. He should have been there, he was a freak and he should have died, she would have been better off without him. Jack still didn't understand why (or how) she had paid for his medical expenses when he had had 'the accident', if she wanted him dead so much.

Then he began to wonder... if he had known, really known what was going to happen, would he have stopped it or gone to the march, stood at one of the most dangerous spots and hope to die with the rest of them?

Adorably Deadly

Who: Domina and Ava
When: Evening
Where: Ad Gustum

Her chat with Zale had gotten Ava wondering about Ad Gustum and whether or not the establishment, under new management as it was, could accommodate her particular tastes. She'd called ahead to set up an appointment for a tour of the facility, with a potential booking if she liked the place. She had a few hours, after all, and it was better to maximize her playtime than have to bother looking around for someone to snatch who wouldn't be missed. And so after making her appointment, she busied herself with a few errands. The demon attacks were bothersome, but Ava kept to the skies as much as possible and wasn't particularly bothered.

When she left for Ad Gustum, however, she had a brief run-in with a demon. Deumos, if she was correct on her identification - female, four horns, crown of bone. Seemed about right. Ava had paused in a shop to pick up massage oil in her favorite scent, a spicy incense blend made by a local witch, when she was charged by the female demon. The streets were mostly deserted, save a local college-age girl who seemed to be hurrying home. Ava casually grabbed the pretty girl as she sprinted past, tossing her negligently in the path of the charging demon to be gored as she took to the air.

She landed a moment later at Ad Gustum, pausing to straighten her hair and clothes. She'd dressed for bloodletting, black pants and a black halter for her wings, with a black sweater tucked into the bag she carried that also held her favorite knives, the oil, and a few special toys. Ava liked to be prepared in case Ad Gustum had someone pretty. She left her wings out to sparkle pale gold in the light of Ad Gustum's entry, head up imperiously as she waited for someone to attend her.

Just Doing My Job

Who: Ava and Ezra, and a little bit of Zu
When: Around 9 am
Where: Phone!

After a pleasant time in Chicago, chatting with Seth, Ava flew home in time to beat the sun. She finished up a few other business-related tasks, then settled down with a book to pass a little more time. Though she herself was a night-dweller, it quite obviously didn't make sense to start a phone call where she had to make a request on a bad note by waking the man she had to speak to. So she waited until nine am before picking up the phone and dialing the number of one Ezra Ramas, blood hunter.

Ezra was up. He was still feeling stressed and worn out, but he was up. The stupid crow-- who had since introduced himself as Zu-- hadn't been a dream, and was perched at the foot of his bed when he woke up. It was irritating, to say the least, to have commentary while he shaved, made coffee, got dressed, brushed his teeth... not even the ghosts bothered him, then, and it galled him that he couldn't order this commentator away like he could, them.

When the phone rang, he was contemplating some kind of cage or even binding spell on a familiar, and he picked it up with an absent, "Ezra Ramas."

With a little extra this time. )

WHO: Gareth and Ava
WHAT: Seeking out vampire advice
WHEN: Evening
WHERE: Outside Heme

It was late evening when Gareth decided it was time to find out what he could about Dusty's wing problem. The bald man had spent the better part of the day out of the house, with the truck, abandoning Gareth, who did not have the advantage of wings. None the less, he'd made the most of it, and had finally decided to walk into town, hoping to find someone who could help him with his questions.

He'd wandered around Scarlet Oak for the better part of an hour, watching the sunset and wondering how he would like this state when winter came. Probably not so much. He stopped in a coffee shop, grabbing a mocha, and as he stepped out into the evening dusk, he adjusted his cowboy hat-- which was now donned with the feather he'd plucked from Dusty's wing the night before -- and stopped the first person he saw on the street to ask for directions. He happened to stop a tall and lanky redhead in the company of a tiny blonde man. The two seemed to have been bickering amiably, but when he stopped them it was the redhead who gave him a smile and directions.

He followed them closely, finding himself on Wrecker St. The building was as the redhead had described it, and he approached cautiously, unsure of himself. Most likely the vampires wouldn't help him. He wasn't about to tell them that his friend had been turned, and they'd probably take his questions for someone who was either hunting, or sticking his nose where it didn't belong. It didn't matter. He had questions and he wanted them answered. Unsure of himself, he approached the building, noting how many people were around on the streets. Most of them didn't look like vampires... but, it was best to be careful. He could assume safely that a man of his profession wasn't welcome, and moreso that he was putting himself in danger by even coming near this place. Still, mused as he fingered the silver cross he wore around his neck. It's not like I don't have protection, in addition to the cross he had his silver knife on him... just to be safe.

Tempting the Vampire

Who: Alejandro and Ava
Where: Ava's apartment
When: 5ishAM

Showing up at Ava's apartment right before dawn wasn't really how Alejandro wanted to spend his morning, but hey. He didn't really have anything better to do, did he? Besides take a flight around the lake, or something, in the damp air? Get caught out after dawn because he loved the damn sun so much, and the weather report said sun today, finally? At least it's stopped raining, so his kitchen window had stopped leaking. Getting that fixed was going to be a pain in the ass.

So was visiting Ava. He had no idea what she wanted, and her admonishment on his answering machine to not eat first had nearly made him laugh. As if he ate here, where people could see him. Yeah, right.

He took the stairs rather than the elevator, and knocked on her door when he got there.

Blood money

Who: Ezra and Ava
When: After dark
Where: Ava's apartment

Ava was supposed to be shooting in California, but she'd postponed her schedule for a few days, citing a desire to assist with the search for the missing teens. In all reality, she didn't give a damn what happened to the little beasts, but it was good publicity and only upped her status as a Hollywood darling.

How Old Are You?

Who: Spence and Ava
When: Evening
Where: The park

With work finished for the day, Spence decided he didn't want to sit inside his house and drink alone all night. And given he had just spent most of his day in a vacant bar, he didn't want to go to one to drink either. So he found himself walking around through town, passed Heme and the chaos that still surrounded it. Eventually he found himself in the park, smoking a cigarette and enjoying the quiet. It wouldn't last long. School was out the next day for Scarlet Oak, and given it was summer, teens would be out and about until the wee hours of the morning for the next three months. Fucking fantastic. Spence sat on a wooden bench and stretched his legs out. He could enjoy the rest of his cigarette, breathe in some fresh air, and then start thinking about walking home.
