Apologies for not doing this in person, but I have some news I wanted to share.

Gilbert, your grandfather Garrick has been rescued from Death Eater custody. He's safe, and recuperating, and should make a full recovery. I'm afraid it's not entirely safe yet to arrange a visit, or for him to go home, but if you'd like to speak to him I can arrange a phone call.

Did you know you can play chess on the winternet?

I think Harry and the others are planning something. I'm not entirely sure what and I'm trying not to pry, but they've got some sort of bee in their bonnet.

I also think it'd be a good time to move Mr Ollivander - he's doing much better, and I think he'll benefit from being somewhere that isn't bursting at the seams. Is there still room at Great-Aunt Muriel's, Mum?

There are three very important birthdays coming up and while I know how everything is, we still should celebrate them as appropriately as we can.

Also -- in before Mum gets there: George, why are you still single, you're the last holdout, etc etc.

What would you like to do for your birthday? Family celebrations aside.

How're things at work? I feel like we've been focusing on Percy and the twins a lot recently, and things can't be easy for you either.

so, about the item caroline and i retrieved from angelina & alicia's place: yes, definitely cursed. but it's dormant spellwork, and it seems to only activate at night to give a nearby victim nightmares. the note that came with it didn't bring up anything.

neither did today's note. what are you going to do?

and just as suddenly as he appeared, ron has left us. we left it a few hours in case this was him needing to be alone today, but no, he's gone. we managed to find note -- very short, but basically he's gone to look for h & h.

ron's left the cottage to find harry and hermione. i swear, those kids the horcrux hunt continues.

okay, so we're a pretty large bunch of people. what are the plans for christmas? who is doing what and when? and where?

we'd love to have a christmas eve dinner over at our place, if that doesn't step on any toes.

hello, friends. re wands for the wandless, i've gotten hold of 5 from my friend in brazil, whose accompanying notes i've pared down for easy reading.


• Guarana wand, caipora hair core. Guarana is a huge source of caffeine & caiporas are mischievous spirit-beings, so this wand is probably going to be a fun one that neither of my twin brothers are allowed to even handle.
  
• Paubrasilia (or "brazilwood"), unicorn tail core. The wood is highly prized by musicians, and its wands do best in the hands of creative types.
  
• Jacaranda tree, crystallised fire slug slime core. Excellent for transfiguration.
  
• Tipuana tree, Peruvian Vipertooth heartstring core. A powerful wand that does best when paired with someone who likes to duel. Conflict emboldens it.
  
• Bahia rosewood, curupira hair core. A steady, sturdy wand. Apparently very good at defensive magic.

i've got a few contacts in japan and russia who i'm waiting to hear back from, but we should have more to distribute soon. i'm away until wednesday, but when i get back, i can start talking to the folks who need their stolen wands replacing so we can start pairing them up.

pack for a two night stay somewhere away from here, and plan for an early morning tomorrow.

my terrifically terrible twinbros -- the "curse" is down and the shop secured. i've triple checked the whole thing.

you should consider yourselves lucky: whoever you've managed to irk that much recently is pretty shite at cursework. probably got a D at charms. Cap*t exspiravit, when cast properly, is able to knock someone out cold.

harry is officially undesirable #1. mum has sent me six owls about this (and counting).

as far as we know, the school believes ron is still sick with spattergroit, so he's spared from battling it out for second place with hermione.
