Raven had been spending most of the night with her sisters, chatting, laughing and occasionally spying on her brother Oz and his date. She toyed with her pendant and her ring as she listened to her sisters' gossip. They had convinced her that she could abandon her usual causal look for more formal attire that night, without fading into the background. She was glad that she had paid attention to their advice; with her multicoloured gown and orange accessories, she felt she had stayed true to her own sense of colourful style. And since she had no concerns about being under-dressed, she could relax and enjoy the party atmosphere - the dancing, the drinks, the beautiful surroundings and most importantly - the crowd. It was the perfect opportunity to meet new people. For that reason, as much as she treasured her sisters' company, she was hoping to break away from them as soon as possible.

Raven cast her eyes around room, watching the other party goers with a bright smile. Finishing her drink, she set the glass down and used the excuse of getting a new drink to leave her sisters. She swayed her hips slowly as she walked and her natural were grace kept her from bumping into anyone. When she arrived at the bar, she leaned forward to order her drink and then straightened up as she waited for it. Her eyes flickered to the other people nearby as she wondered who she should approach first. There was no desire to intrude on someone's date or try to break into a group. "Hi" She said to the first person she spotted that was alone at the moment. "It's lovely here, isn't it?"

It was raining again, how boring! Chloe liked the rain alright when it was to be expected and in its usual season, not in the middle of August when it was supposed to be warm and sunny and people were supposed to wear revealing clothes and walk around freely in a way they wouldn't when the summer ended. Then again these days no one walked around freely, obviously, because there were non-human things killing people out there, apparently. It was all just a drag, really, and Chloe had finished her work day in such a down mood that she only spent about ten minutes at home taking care of her things and saying hello to Leeloo before moving on to having a drink. She needed one tonight, Chloe wasn't one to get depressed so she didn't really know how to deal with a mood like this one except for drowning it in alcohol. As much alcohol as possible. And no, the fact that she had to work tomorrow did not factor into her plans at all. She'd gone to work hungover before.

Taking a seat at the bar of her favorite hole in the wall pub in Scarlet Oak, Chloe ordered a double shot of bourbon on the rocks and hung her bag on the back of the bench with a sigh. She resorted to waiting for her bourbon with her arms on the counter and her head over them, her demeanor showing just how she was feeling. She wondered if since she wasn't used to being in a bad mood it weighed on her a lot more than on people who were. Because that made sense to Chloe, even if it didn't to anyone else.

BIRTHDAYS: Ellie

WEATHER: Still raining, humidity through the roof. Generally you should spend as little time outside as possible.

EVENTS: Something horrible has happened in Scarlet Oak. And not a lot of people know what exactly it is. Early in the morning an entire block in the business district is closed off with police barricades, and police are everywhere. By eight AM, government officials and local branches of the National Guard are brought in. The block remains closed off indefinitely, and no one is being allowed in. Within an hour of that, police, government, and National Guard are swarming The Court. A resident is quoted by the local news as saying that they are searching the apartment of local student and basketball star Zachary Temple.

A statement is issued by the police chief, but it’s vague. What the public knows: the body of Zach Temple was found, and he was not human. He was murdered, and upon searching his home some disturbing things have been found. Temple is now the prime suspect in the July 30th murder of local infant twins. Police had been on the lookout for a were snake, but police now confirm that Temple was not a were, and he was not human. Temple is also believed to have taken part in the abduction of a local woman recently. Really, the statement’s not all that helpful. But the police do inform the public that they are looking for members of Temple’s family – who may or may not have already gone into hiding. Anyone who has any information about Temple, his death, or his family are urged to contact police.

Of course, now there’s a whole lot of speculation as to just what this guy was. If officials know, they sure aren’t telling. Naturally, the word ‘demon’ is being thrown around a lot as a guess, but one reporter manages to snag an ‘anonymous report’ from someone who saw the body. They insist that he was definitely part-snake.

Unsurprisingly, Scarlet Oak is a busy place today. But for those who know nothing about Zachary Temple, there’s nothing to do but go on with life as usual.

In Ann Arbor, the first luxury hotel aimed to the supernatural community is finally opening. There’s a large invite-only party at the Hotel di Sei Ali tonight, and those lucky enough to be going are probably happy to have a nice distraction from recent events.
