Because maybe you're gonna be the one that saves me
Who: Telyn and Adam
When: Evening
Where: Telyn’s house
What: Date Night
Dinner had been lovely. Adam had picked her up and she was glad to be doing something normal. The last week had been more than a little crazy. First she was attacked by a demon and then her grandfather comes to town and joins the fire department. Oh yeah, and he’s an angel, which makes her half-angel. It was enough to drive anyone completely mental. But she had Adam and Lucky to help her through it. Once she had learned about Jonas, Adam was her first call and they had hung out that night while she sorted out how she felt about it all.
Now they had an actual date, their first since their fail!bowling experience, which the blonde elemental thought of often. Her hand had been in his when they walked into the restaurant and she kept it available if he wanted to take it in the car. Going back to her house to watch a movie had a duel purpose. One, they weren’t out late, which she liked. After being attacked, it was nice to spend time some place she felt safe. Secondly, she was hoping to get some snuggle time on the couch.
Telyn picked at lint on her skirt and looked over at Adam. “I’m glad we did this. Dinner was really great.” She smiled at him, completely relaxed for the first time in what seemed like ages to her.
Getting out and doing something normal was a good thing, in Adam’s opinion. So much had happened in the last few weeks, between demons and angels and Telyn coming back. And with the school year about to start, Adam wanted to make sure he could get at least one date with her before he found himself buried under mountains of papers. Well, at least he thought he’d be buried, he still didn’t know how actually teaching his first semester would work just yet. Dinner and a movie seemed like a perfect idea - low key, low stress, and hopefully something Telyn liked to do.
So far, so good. He did, by the end of the night, catch on to the fact that she’d left her hand open for him to take, and so he did, blushing as he did so. They had not had the “are we dating?” conversation yet, and he was okay with that, but that didn’t mean he didn’t miss that closeness. They’d been through a lot already, and he didn’t want to push them too far if they weren’t ready. Telyn would tell him when she was.
“Dinner was awesome,” he agreed, taking a seat next to her on the couch. “Of course, now we have to figure out what to watch.” Adam paused, “Don’t ask me, I’m bad with this sort of thing.”
The blonde elemental inched a little closer to him. She’d liked how he’d taken her hand in the car. Once the movie was started, she was hoping for some cuddle time. They were just started to kind of getting to that point before she’d left. She wanted that point back. “Well we could go action movie, comedy or even Disney and I would be perfectly fine with it. What are you in the mood for?” They could at least decide on a genre together.
Since she’d already offered her hand to him once, Adam figured it would be okay if he took it again, so he did. Why were so hard to read sometimes? He just didn’t want to mess any of this up if he could avoid it. “Maybe a comedy?” he asked. “Just not a drama, I tend to over-analyze those too much.” If he could get caught up in the story, then he’d start thinking about plot and plot holes and characterization instead of enjoying the movie.
She nodded and gave his hand a squeeze before standing up. Telyn moved over to the dvd collection she was growing and pulled out 10 Things I Hate About You. “This okay? I haven’t watched it in a while.” She liked that it was based on a Shakespeare play but then again, it was also really funny.
He adjusted his glasses on his nose as he read the title. “Oh! Yes, I haven’t seen that one in forever. That’ll be perfect.” Because while he did like the original Shakespeare play, this was just a plain good movie. And yes, he’d seen it when he was in high school, proof that he wasn’t completely out of touch with some of the milestones most people his age had. “Did you want to have popcorn or anything while we watch?”
The disc was soon in the dvd player and she turned towards him. “If you want. I’m okay right now.” Admittedly, Telyn was more looking forward to watching the movie with him rather than just watching the movie. “Though I could go for some water.”
“Um... I’ll go grab some water for us, then.” He’d been in her place enough times by now to know which cabinet held the glasses, and he wasn’t so fussy as to need bottled water. In the kitchen, he let the tap run for a second before filling up two glasses and bringing them back into the living room. “Here,” he said, passing one to her. “Let’s start the movie.”
She bit her lip when he offered to get the water and settled herself on the couch. Lucky was no where to be seen as he knew she had a date night with Adam. He would likely poke his head out later but right now it was just the two of them. “Thanks,” she said, taking the glass from him and a sip before she put it down. Play was hit and she settled in next to him, arm brushing against his.
“Not a problem.” He liked this more than if they’d decided to go to an actual movie theater, even if he’d known what movies were out right now. It was more private, no one could bother them, and it suited their personalities more. Adam took her hand again, thumb brushing over the side of her hand as they sat there, watching the movie unfold.
Hand holding was good. She liked this movie and being with him made the evening all the more fun. She didn’t need a lot to have a good time. At some point, her head tilted a little and found it’s way to his shoulder. Telyn wasn’t exactly paying attention to the movie as much as she was waiting for his reaction to that.
And Adam’s reaction would have been more priceless if he wasn’t so stunned by it. Her making that move, as little as it was, meant she wanted this, too. Not just because he was her friend, because at one point they’d been on the way to being something more than that. Telyn had no idea how much Adam wanted that back. So, he did the only thing he could, which was to shift so his arm was now around her instead, and he tried not to hold his breath as he waited for what she’d do next.
He put his arm around her and she sighed softly. That was exactly what she had wanted. Telyn closed her eyes for a moment before she snuggled closer. "This is nice," she whispered before she tilted her head up to look at him. There was a soft smile on her face. She had missed this, had missed what they had before she left.
That was it, the look that would always get to him. The fact that Telyn was still snuggling into him, smiling at him like that, it had to mean that she wanted this too. “It is,” he whispered back, trying his best not to be shy, and failing horribly. It was Adam, of course he didn’t know how to properly act around a girl! At least he was trying, anyway. “I missed it, if you want the truth.”
She kissed his cheek and put her head on his shoulder. “I missed it too. It was part of why I suggested the movie back here.” Telyn couldn’t bring herself to focus on the movie, not when she was snuggled up with him on the couch. And she liked that he was shy. So she turned back to look at him, wanting him to kiss her but not wanting to rush it. The blonde wanted this relationship so she didn’t want to mess it up at all.
Anyone else would have read more into that kiss, pressed it forward, see where it went. Adam too was scared - he didn’t want to mess anything up, and he didn’t want to push her if she wasn’t ready. Wasn’t that something they were both supposed to feel, whenever the time was right? He didn’t know anymore. “Good,” he admitted, chuckling softly, “I don’t think I want to share you with anyone else right now.” He paused, looking down for a second. “....I don’t think I want to share you with anyone ever, actually.”
Telyn was ready to be with him, to be able to call him her boyfriend. Was the time right? Maybe. God, she hoped so. And then he had to go an say what he did. He didn’t want to share her ever? The blonde grinned and tucked her legs under her, turning to him a little more. “Anyone ever?” she said softly, unable to help how much she was smiling at the thought. Did that mean he wanted to be her boyfriend?
Adam was the last person to ask if the timing was right or wrong, having little to no experience with this sort of thing. What he did know was that he liked the time he got to spend with Telyn and just to see her smile like that... it was special to him. It would always be special to him. “Would you be opposed if I said yes to that?” The words were soft, because he was a little scared to admit them, but with the way she was currently looking at him, he just hoped he was saying the right thing.
She shook her head. “Not at all,” she whispered softly back to him. They had been at this point before she had disappeared and the fact that they were back at this point again made her happy. It reminded her that they had something good between them, something that can’t be messed up by her disappearing act or demon attacks. Her hand moved to rest on his chest, liking being close to him.
Holy shit. Adam, the man who was great with words on paper, who was not so great with actually talking to people, honestly didn’t know what to say. It was what he always wanted to hear Telyn say and yet, he hadn’t been prepared for her to actually say it. He’d always thought she wanted to take a little more time to adjust to everything, and he knew that rushing things between the two of them wouldn’t help anything. Or maybe he was wrong and this was exactly what she needed. Drawing a deep breath, he leaned in to rest his forehead against hers. Then, after a moment’s hesitation, he brushed his lips against the corner of her mouth.
They were closer now, closer then they had been since she’d left. This was what she’d wanted, what she had been hoping for. When his forehead touched hers, she closed her eyes and smiled and then his mouth was against hers, the softest touch. Her eyes flicked up to his and she smiled before moving the slightest bit so his mouth would properly cover her own for a real kiss.
Adam wasn’t sure how long he’d waited for that kiss, but he knew it had been quite some time. Though he’d kissed her before and therefore it wasn’t their first kiss, it did almost feel like it was, warm and inviting and with a lot of promise behind it, even though it wasn’t as deep. It didn’t need to be, to convey what he was feeling in that moment. After a few long seconds he pulled back, smile on his face, though still a bit nervous. “I missed that.”
Her hand slid up to cup his cheek as she smiled at him. “I did too.” She missed more than the kissing. She missed what they were doing currently, curled up, watching a movie. She missed spending time with him. Adam was such a sweet guy and she thought he was adorable. Telyn had spent a lot of time thinking about what they had started before she left and now, here they were, that promise of something amazing back between then. “I missed a lot about you, actually.”
Now at that, he did blush. Adam never saw himself as someone who was particularly remarkable or memorable, all of his academic achievements aside. The fact that she did remember said volumes, and he was really flattered. He smiled again, nuzzling his nose against hers. “So did I. But... you don’t have to miss that anymore. If you don’t want to.”
She giggled, actually giggled, as he nuzzled her nose. “I don’t want to miss you anymore.” Her thumb brushed over his cheek and she leaned in for another kiss, just as soft as the one before. “But,” she murmured softly, pulling back to look into his eyes again. “The thing I missed most was calling you my boyfriend.”
Those words were ones he’d been waiting to hear for quite some time. He grinned and leaned in for another kiss, his confidence boosted now that he knew she wanted this, too. “You’re free to call me that whenever you’d like,” he said, “hopefully that’s often.” His heart was pounding away in his chest now, wondering what she’d say.
Telyn grinned even more. “Very often. As often as you call me your girlfriend... maybe more.” It had been a while since she’d been this happy. The elemental was practically beaming at him. She bit the corner of her lip, watching him. “And I could get used to nights like these.”
Happy was a good thing, and it seemed like forever since the two of them last had that. At least, it felt that way to him, and there was a difference between just getting from day to day and actually living their lives. Adam liked to think that maybe they could get to doing that together. “Then we need to have more nights like this,” he said. “Isn’t that what couples are supposed to do?” Even if it was low key, just the two of them hanging out while he wrote, he’d enjoy that.
She didn’t mind what they did, but he was right. Couples spent their nights like this, curled up together, just spending time with one another. It was what she’d always wanted out of a relationship. And now she could have it. “I think that sounds perfect,” she said softly. “Spending nights like this with my boyfriend.” There was that word again.
Boyfriend. Okay, Adam wasn’t getting tired of that word, and that was saying something considering how much he loved words and he never felt like he had enough of them to say what he wanted to say. He leaned down for another kiss, keeping it soft and sweet, and resisting the urge to jump out of his skin. He’d have to call Ross in the morning and tell his best friend the good news, because Ross’ reaction would probably be louder than his home. “Then we will. As often as you’d like. I’m always here for you, Telyn.”
“I know,” she murmured softly, enjoying being snuggled up with him on the couch. And she did know. She knew that he was there for her and that she needed to turn to him when things got crazy. That’s what boyfriends were there for. That and the soft, sweet moments, like the kisses he was giving her. This was perfect and she really, truly felt more completely at peace now than she had for months. “Thank you,” she said softly, leaning in for another kiss. The movie may have been playing and Konstantine may have been batting a toy around and there may have been a car horn on the street, but it didn’t matter. Telyn was happy and she knew that he had to be too.
