He can't actually remember a lot about how he ended up in the hospital instead of healing himself by way of his gun once more, but it turns out that's because Mal knocked him out and by the time he came round, the bots had got him into the hospital. And there he stayed, until he made a very shamefaced call to Ianto this morning to come and get him, because he had a concussion and the bots wouldn't let him leave on his own.

He waits for Ianto in the lobby, sitting very carefully still because he's hurt in numerous places, his broken nose is throbbing and he can feel his cracked ribs with every breath he takes. He's healing up faster than the average man, but it's still a very sorry sight that greets Ianto when he arrives.
