Turn 'round three times

Who: Kiara and Nikita + Eilir (NPC)
Where: Cherryblossom Place
When: Early evening

That little introduction to yet another siren in Scarlet Oak had not been exactly what Kiara needed. She was really starting to think that there were far, far too many of them for the small area. Oh, Kumiko was one thing entirely and Kiara believed that she did need to be there too, but the others? Sterrin and Adelle... at least Miranda was gone. A siren getting killed by a demon because they were out buying milk, had such a ridiculous thing ever occurred in the history of the world? Kiara devoutly hoped not. But sirens aside, Kiara had another matter to attend to - a home. She was tired of staying in the Liberty Inn and needed to settle. Various sources had reported the Cherryblossom as being not only top-notch but run by a vampire. And vampires were some of her very favorite people. So long as they aren't British. Vostrikova did not sound particularly English though so the redheaded siren held out hope that today's meeting would result in her having a lovely little place of her own.

'To share with me', Eilir reminded with a bit of a huff. Kiara only rolled her eyes as she stepped out of the car and adjusted her sunglasses on top of her head. This was quite the lovely establishment after all. "You be a butterfly," the siren reminded her familiar as she walked into the building. "Not like you take up any room." Give her a flower or something to perch on and she should be just fine, had been getting along with no troubles in the Inn after all. Turing her head Kiara regarded the front desk. "I've an appointment with the landlady for right around now. She here?" Better be. Kiara did not deal well with people who did not know how to keep appointments since she always did exceptionally well.

It's hard to argue when you won't stop making sense

Who: Jezebelle and Grayson
Where: Heme
When: Evening

Much more exciting for him than sitting and watching the three lonely guys who sat at one end of the bar every Tuesday night like some sort of failed ritual (though Grayson could sympathize; he'd been there too, a great number of years ago). )

What if I wanted to break? Laugh it all off in your face

Who: Jezebelle and Lex
Where: Ad Gustom
When: Late Afternoon

Jezebelle was not one to forgive and forget, but she was willing to push differences aside when it suited her. When it came to blood, there were only so many reliable sources, and she'd been neglecting one in particular due to a rather violent last run-in. If Kieron had come through with several bottles of product, she might not have been knocking on Ad Gustom's door, but as it was she needed more than the human blood hunter could provide. All it took was swallowing her pride and hoping that Lex wouldn't attack her on site. True, it was against the rules of their house, but when did the Shades follow their own rules?

what would you do? )

walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door.

Who: Aurelia & Alyssa
Where: The Court
When: Around 1pm

The heat outside was marvellous. Any air conditioning inside the building ruined that, obviously, but Aurelia was elsewhere. It wasn't anything she needed to worry about. The seat behind the front desk--her building, her workplace, her seat... oops?--remained empty, and had been since... well. She could not recall having actually sat in it yet, though she had looked it over with an arched eyebrow once or twice.

Lying on the floor, propped up on her elbows, she could see it easily. Her resting place was not so far outside of the complex that she did not know who was crossing the premises. Vaguely, anyway. They had faces and scents to match. It was enough. Her head lolled back, her throat starved of warmth, and she considered whether she actually had any real work that she ought to be doing. Nothing came to mind, though no doubt she would survive the lack of responsibility.

I want the colours of me brightened by the golden breeze

Who: Aetheria, Aurora, Harley, and an NPC'd Cookie Dough (( Linds said it was ok =P ))
Where: Walking around town
When: Afternoon

It was such lovely weather the past couple of days, today included, and Aetheria just couldn't pass up spending time outside with her sister. Their days were usually busy being booked with clients that it felt like it had been some time since she got to hang out with Aurora. Plus she had so much to tell her! Like that she had seen Dashiell the other day in the park. For some reason, Scarlet Oak was proving to be a good magnet for the rest of her family and she was not complaining at all. They all had to get together soon and have a picnic or something. Oh, how she missed all of them so much.

Before leaving Ad Gustum, she dressed herself in something more casual than she typically wore. As much as she loved her dresses and skirts, she had spotted several giggling teens at the park the other day wearing tshirts and jeans and she couldn't resist mimicking the style. She even helped dress her sister up, giving her some funky accessories to spice up her outfit. The air elemental even giggle lightly at the fact her twin was wearing sunglasses when she in fact never needed them. And they couldn't leave the mansion without Cookie Dough. The little kitten had been all sorts scared during the demon attacks and just latched onto them constantly. Now she could go outside with them! Complete with a leash and everything. Oh yes, they were taking the cat out for a walk. And Aetheria thought they were geniuses for thinking it up, too.

'There are all these signs up about a festival coming up, Rora!' She wrote against her sister's arms while they walked the tiny kitten. 'Something about food and entertainment. It sounds like a big week long party! We should go and bring mom and dad with us!'

A History Lesson, But Only Because She's Bored

Who: Adelle and Kiara
When: Noonish
Where: Museum

It was hot. Again. So after a lonely workout in the park, Adelle made her way back home for a shower and changed into a skirt to hopefully alleviate some of the heat that seethed across her flesh. An hour of sitting at home bored saw the little brunette scooping up her purse and keys and sitting in her car with the air conditioning blasting to escape the heat. Before long, and halfway into a Lady Gaga song, Adelle pulled out her iPhone and began shaking it for things to do. Most of it involved food, and the one place she didn't ever see herself going popped up. The museum. Really, what was there at the museum for a girl who loved the sun, the surf, and the lifestyle it brought? Well, there could be a hot nerdy guy, and it was probably air conditioned.

So off Adelle went, but instead of wandering around the various wings on her own, the siren stopped to look at the map. She placed her finger on the marker that announced that She Was Here, and started looking around for something that would interest her. It was a museum, afterall, maybe there was something Greek, and she could take a peek at the culture that housed the myths of her race. If only Mom knew I was here, she'd flip out. 'My little Adi taking an interest in something other than shoes?' Ryndana was nowhere near as spirited as Roxy's mom, Linda, but she could tease at times. Maybe she was secretely a Cali girl too.

"Where do they keep the good stuff in here? Seriously."

Part of this terrible mess that you're making

Who: Alanna and Zach
Where: The Court
When: 5:00 p.m.

Being cooped up because of demons wasn't Zach's idea of fun. His idea of fun was stretched out in the sun soaking up some rays after a good game of basketball. Being stuck inside with nothing but fake light and tons of other people was like a form of torture. But now he had all the time in the world to laze because he had taken a few days off work just for that. So he was - stretched out on a table in front of the court in the early evening sunbeams, shirt crumbled on the bench beside him. He'd thought about going down to the courts to shoot a few hoops but his laziness had prevailed and so he stayed here. Besides, there had been a niggling thought in the back of his head about that redheaded chipmunk girl from a week or whatever ago. He'd smelled her at the gym too, but been unable to drag himself off his cot to go look for her. She lived in this apartment though, he was sure of it, and he figured that if he waited around for long enough then he had to see her.

Alanna, that was her name, it came to Zach in a flash and he grinned to himself. She was definitely the sort of person who could be considered as prey no matter her form. And being a snake by nature even more than he was a human, Zach could not help but feel like this could be one of the more interesting ways to hunt. Not that he'd hurt her, but that terrified smell that she gave off had been rather intoxicating. He wanted it to be there again. It was almost as good as the thrill of scoring the winning basket at a game. And he couldn't have that for awhile so hey, he'd settle for the next best thing.

I always wanted to know a mermaid

Who: Charlene, Kat & Roxy
Where: Redleaf Lake
When: 3:00 p.m.

Excited? No way, Kat was worlds above excited, she was thrilled and ecstatic and practically bubbling over because she got to see Roxy! It felt like it'd been years since she'd seen her big sister. First she'd been kicked out and then she'd just vanished to god knew where when the demons came. Kat had practically worried herself sick over that but then she'd found out that yeah, Roxy was fine and even better, she got to see her! And her mermaid girlfriend. Hard to really tell what part was more exciting for the moment. Both mixed together, Kat decided as she fiddled with her hair. Way too blonde and natural since her mother had gotten away with bleaching it back, but at least the rest of her outfit made up for it with the black and pink bits she wanted in her hair so much. Luckily she'd manage to slip out of the house without her mom seeing that she wasn't wearing a shit because for whatever reason that was a big deal. Not like it mattered since she was just going to be swimming anyhow. In this god-awful heat there was no way she was staying out of the lake.

"Roxy!" Kat shouted as she reached the edge of the lake, flicking her sunglasses up to peer at the water and then around at the surrounding area. Ugh, she felt like she was going to melt if she stayed in the sun much longer. Shrugging, she kicked off her flip-flops and wriggled out of her shorts before plopping right down in the shallow water, delighted at the cool water that went right up to her stomach. After a moment of relaxing she glanced around. Roxy had to be there somewhere. Unless she was running late. Maybe her make-up had been messed up or something, who knew?

Life leaves you surprised, slaps you in the eyes

WHO: Kieron and Gilbert (NPC, his familiar!)
WHAT: Coming to terms, or maybe not.
WHEN: Early evening.
WHERE: Kieron's apartment.

Over the crappy speakers hooked up to his laptop in his tiny apartment, Kieron blasted “Totally Wired” by the Fall and with a cigarette in his hand pretended to play the drums. The smoke filled the apartment pretty badly and so sometimes he'd have to keep the door open just so that his apartment would choke him. When he finally noticed that his door had opened wider there was a small leopard lizard standing in the middle of the doorway. Putting his cigarette out in the ashtray, Kieron wandered hunched over to take a closer look. “Well 'ello there li'l buddy. You wander out your owner's house?” he asked the little creature who he was sure wouldn't understand what he was saying. “Great Kieron, you're talking to a lizard.” he said to himself and stood up to look for something to catch it with.

TIME UPDATE

DATE: Saturday, July 18, 2009.

BIRTHDAYS: None

WEATHER: Slightly overcast, but still terribly hot. At least there's a breeze!

EVENTS: With Niall Mag Aoidh having been in custody for twenty-four hours now, problems are starting to arise. No, demons aren't crawling out of sewers and cult members aren't blasting spells at the building housing him, but problems all the same. Mag Aoidh was arrested on conspiracy charges, but the problem is... Irish authorities are out of grounds as far as charges go. How are they to book him on said conspiracy charges? Niall Mag Aoidh did press interviews publicly taking credit and apologizing for the demonic attacks, but he hasn't said how it happened. His coven performed a spell that seemed to bring them about, but how? Most laws around the world have no written rules as far as magic goes, so it can be argued that he didn't actually break any laws. And that's exactly what activists are saying.

In custody, Mag Aoidh isn't talking. He's refusing to speak, save for with an attorney, and there isn't a hell of a lot more authorities can do with him. They have no grounds to charge and keep him, but have yet to release him. Human Rights groups are claiming his rights have been violated, and he must be released immediately. At the same time, he is one of the most hated men in the world. All around the world, people are convinced that his coven really is responsible for the demonic attacks, and if released, he'll just summon up another. Many feel that should be enough. Coupled with how many thousands of people have died in the last rounds of demonic activity, is that enough to lock him up and throw away the key? The debate is heated, and dominating news channels around the globe.

In local news, tragedy! What else? The body of local teenager, Claire Corey, was found just outside Scarlet Oak Community Park close to midnight last night. A 911 report was made shortly after eleven by a worried motorist, who informed the 911 operator that he had hit a werewolf in hybrid form, who seemed to be fighting with another werewolf. The driver fled the scene for fear of his life. Corey was pronounced dead on arrival, seemingly of a broken neck, and her body taken to the local medical examiner for autopsy. Blood samples were taken from at least two others, but as of yet has not been identified. Claire Corey has made news before, as she was one of the teenagers kidnapped last month by blood drainers. Claire is survived by her twin and parents, and was a class of 2009 graduate. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Finally, Scarlet Oak is gearing up for the annual Berry Days festival. Held at the Scarlet Oak County Fairgrounds (just south of the Berry Bucket, not pictured on the map), Berry Days is a week-long festival, always more anticipated and prepared for than even the local county fair. Lasting from Sunday to Sunday, there will be a full fair with dozens of rides and games, farm, arts, and crafts shows, live entertainment and outdoor concerts, and most importantly: berry-themed cook-offs and bake-offs. People from all over the state (and some farther than that!) come to enter their precious recipes for serious bragging rights and cash prizes. Lasting from Monday to Thursday, each day features recipes with a different berry requirement (blueberries on Monday, strawberries on Tuesday, blackberries on Wednesday, and raspberries on Thursday), with baked goods kept separately in the bake-off. The grand prize for each day's cook-off and bake-off is a $250 cash prize, as well as entry for a $5000 home-kitchen remodel to be given away at the end of the week. This year, Berry Days is doing something special: accommodating vampires. The festival will stay open later every day (until 2 AM), but that's not what's really making the local news.

Every year, Berry Days brings their contests to a close on Friday with two special extra contests: one for berry-flavored wines and beers. Along with that, this Friday they'll be having a vampire-themed beverage contest. Meaning? Flavored bloods. How they do it is up to the entries, though the rules clearly state that the human 'vessels' being entered must be perfectly willing, safe, and healthy – and must submit to a full on-site physical before having their blood tasted. If you think you can win just by mixing some of your blood in a blender with berries, think again. Some intending on entering have been eating nothing but berries and berry-flavored items for weeks.

Naturally, you can expect a metric fuck-ton of human rights protestors to be found on the grounds.

If you have something you feel warrants a mention in the next time update, please let the mods know!
