Life leaves you surprised, slaps you in the eyes
WHO: Kieron and Gilbert (NPC, his familiar!) WHAT: Coming to terms, or maybe not. WHEN: Early evening. WHERE: Kieron's apartment.
Over the crappy speakers hooked up to his laptop in his tiny apartment, Kieron blasted “Totally Wired” by the Fall and with a cigarette in his hand pretended to play the drums. The smoke filled the apartment pretty badly and so sometimes he'd have to keep the door open just so that his apartment would choke him. When he finally noticed that his door had opened wider there was a small leopard lizard standing in the middle of the doorway. Putting his cigarette out in the ashtray, Kieron wandered hunched over to take a closer look. “Well 'ello there li'l buddy. You wander out your owner's house?” he asked the little creature who he was sure wouldn't understand what he was saying. “Great Kieron, you're talking to a lizard.” he said to himself and stood up to look for something to catch it with.
”I've come to speak with you.” he heard from the other room and immediately ran back to his door. It was still open but all that was there was a lizard. He hazardously maneuvered himself around the lizard who didn't seem to be moving and looked out into the hallway. There was no one there, no one even remotely in sight, just the lizard and him, along with his dog of course who had just come to terms with the lizard in his doorway and she was growling at it. Wha' the...he thought but then another voice began. ”Down here you buffoon”. he said and immediately looked down at the lizard. You've got to be bloody kidding me. he thought. Kieron had seen a few strange things in his lifetime, especially with being a hunter, but this for sure took the cake. So who are you then lizard? Have I gone completely batshit? Or is there some reason you're talkin' to me. he asked, feeling totally batshit insane for actually questioning a lizard of all things, but if this was a figment of his imagination, he definitely wouldn't be using words like 'buffoon' which sounded like something an old woman might say. “I am Gilbert.” he said, oddly enough a London accent coming through his mind clearly. There was no reason for a lizard to have a London accent, but for some reason, 'Gilbert' just had to sound like some sort of wanker. Okay Gilbert, who the bloody hell are you, and how the bloody hell can I hear you speak? he asked, kneeling down now in front of the lizard whose face only showed emotion of words but whose lips didn't actually move. “I'm here for your protection Kieron.” he said and since it was a little uncomfortable in the position he was currently in he sat down and offered the lizard a leg up onto his arm where he sat comfortably. What? Are you going to fight off some aliens or sumthin'? Should I be fearful of vampires now? he said, mocking a shriek in the face of a vampire. Kieron obviously wasn't afraid of them, nor was he by any means indebted to them, so clearly there was something more to this then he'd originally thought. “Stop your incessant questioning fool. You are something not of the usual. You have strength in heat and fire because you hold the key, in your hands, to the element fire.” Kieron knitted his brow at this and shook his head, a smile appearing on his face. “Are you some sort of hidden camera gag?” he spoke out loud and his smile grew wider as he started to actually believe it. “Am I on camera?” he looked around the room to see if anybody was hiding in the shadows. Normally he would have been able to detect something in his presence, it was a skill that had been mastered being around vampires all the time, but no, there was no one there, at least no one else that Kieron could openly detect. “I am your familiar Kieron.” He'd once again gone back to the silence as clearly this lizard wasn't hearing his thoughts if he was involved with a hidden camera show. “What? Like the kind witches have? I ain't no bloody witch.” The lizard crawled up his arm and settled on his shoulder. ”You are not a witch. You possess the power to control fire.” What in the bloody hell did that mean? Kieron never was and would never be some kind of elemental, or so he thought of course, but obviously this lizard wasn't talking to him just for the hell of it. “That doesn't make any sense.” he stated, because clearly, if he couldn't make any sense of it, then there couldn't possibly be any sense whatsoever. ”Doesn't it?” the lizard asked, crawling down his arm. It felt weird to have this little creature just go about his body as he pleased, he almost felt invaded. Little fucker tickles. and promptly the lizard responded. ”I heard that.” he stated, before continuing on with whatever point he had to make. ”When you were a boy, you survived a fire, a fire that neither of your adopted parent's made it out of. Don't you think that's a bit strange? You've never once had a sunburn, never once got burned by fire, and have an affinity toward the heat.” Gilbert pointed out, which had been a very good point but Kieron wasn't ready to accept this. “Yeah and I've also escaped the fucking cops more than once, does that mean I'm also a roadrunner?” he asked him, still not ready to accept or come to terms with this. The absolute worst part of this was that it made perfect sense. Nothing in the world made more sense than this, but when something made too much sense, Kieron had a tendency to believe that it was all false, a lie, a trick. ”Kieron, I wouldn't have any other reason to speak to you. I would much rather be talking to someone with more tact but alas, I was called to protect you. You may slip by every once in a while, but you need me and it's about time you manned up to who you are.” That was harsh, and even more so coming from a fucking talking lizard. Placing the lizard on the ground, Kieron looked at it, stood up and looked at Spike. “Sick em' Spike.” he said with a grin and went back to his computer, turning the music up and loud, hoping to scare the lizard off. Luckily, Spike did a good enough job with that all on her own. The poor lizard scurried into the closest crevice he could find and would hide out there until Kieron came to his senses. Sad news, he'd be hiding out there for a very, long time.
