I'll use a lighter so you can see what isn't there
Who: Adam Rowe and Amina Goodblood
When: Late afternoon
Where: Lenore's Bookstore and Cafe
Adam didn't know how he let his agent talk him into this. He hated book signings and readings, preferring to stay out of the spotlight whenever possible. It wasn't about him, it was about his work, and if people wanted to read and buy his work, that was awesome. Sure, there was more than a little thrill that went through him the first time he held his work in print, seeing his name on the cover, any author felt that.
Sitting in front of a bunch of people, talking about himself and his work? Yeah, not so much. Adam much preferred to be the observer, the one behind the scenes, instead of the one in the spotlight. Kennedy had been appalled when she caught wind of the fact that he hadn't done any self promotion since moving back to his hometown, and then promptly set this up for him. Whether Adam liked it or not, here he was.
There was something else on his mind too - Telyn. She'd called him in tears the night before, explaining the drama that was her family, and saying she was leaving town for a while. Adam understood, and he'd offered to come over, but she was pretty insistent on dealing with everything herself. It hurt, though he tried not to let it. He just hoped Telyn knew that, whenever she was ready, he'd still be here for her. If she wanted him to be.
He didn't know which was worse for him, the reading in front of all those people, or the actual signing itself. But Adam had done this before and he knew what to do, smiling as he greeted each person. And he knew he didn't have to stay to clean everything up, but since his plans with Telyn were now cancelled, what else was he going to do? Sit in his townhouse and play piano? There would be plenty of time for that later.
