The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning
Who: Maxine and NPCs
Where: Nightclub in Ann Arbor
When: Between 11pm 10/02 and 1am 10/03
Warning: Siren at work
The hunger had arrived like a bolt of lightning; sudden and terrible and completely unexpected. Maxine had rarely been too busy to listen to her own body in that way, but this time that was exactly what had happened. She had just not been paying attention. Omega was keeping her busier than ever before, apparently. She had to wait a couple of days for a clean break in the workload, at which point Maxine had been having slight mood swings, the kind she could keep from becoming known, and was already feeling a bit batty. She wondered how those who stopped killing altogether even managed to do so.
As it was customary there was a whole process, a ritual even, that Maxine performed before going out in search of her victim. She took a relaxing bath, spent hours doing her own hair and makeup, then dressed herself in the best items in her closet. finally, she took a cab to Ann Arbor proper, finding a busy nightclub she was sure she'd find her prey in.
For a good while Maxine walked the club, ordering drinks here and there, surveying potential suitors and dismissing them as just undersexed idiots who wanted a piece way out of their league. A little later into the night she finally found him. He was tall, dark and altogether seemingly a fine, mature gentleman. Yet, he was trying to put the moves on a visibly drunk young woman with no sense to fully realize what was happening to or around her. She could barely stand at this point yet he seemed intent on trying to take her out of the club and God knew where, ‘just us two baby’ as he said.
No. That was not going to happen. Swallowing the bile that had built in her mouth at the sight Maxine approached the darkened sitting zone and sat on the other side of the man, touching his shoulder once. He looked her way about to send her packing, and changed his mind immediately upon actually seeing her. No, of course not. I’m the best thing who's been anywhere near you and come to you first in ages, aren't I? “Evening.”
“Well, hello.” He replied, trying to act classy as if he hadn't been trying to drag a semi-unconscious woman somewhere deserted just seconds ago.
“What do you say you leave the little girl alone and come play in the big leagues?” Maxine smirked. Of course the man was enticed at once; a direct proposition, to this kind of person, had to mean not going through the hassle of waiting for her to be unable to consent in order to have sex. If only this had been a rare occurrence in all of Maxine’s years.
“Sure, baby, what do you wanna do?”
Incessant flirting followed, during which time Maxine was able to take focus off of the poor girl - whom she was coming back for later. Eventually they had taken it closer to the balcony. “I don't usually do this,” Maxine feigned a nervous giggle. “but you're just…” The man looked like he had hit the jackpot.
"Isn't it cold here, baby?" He asked. And it was, which was why the place was empty. Maxine simply laughed.
"I like the temperature shifts." Biting her bottom lip Maxine backed up into the empty balcony, pulling the man by the collar into the darkest part of the place. He tried to take over immediately, pushing her against the wall and running his disgusting lips all over Maxine’s collar. She let him, for the time being. She was even gasping here and there, as if she was enjoying herself. Slowly the whispers turned into song, the muffled beat helping her along.
“Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us“
She sang, to his obvious surprise.
“No one can separate us
For we are all that is left“
“Huh?”
“The echo bounces off me
The shadow lost beside me”
Maxine wrapped her arm around the man’s neck, singing directly into his ear.
“What are you…?”
“Shhhh.” She put her finger over his lips, forcing him slightly off of her collarbone.
“There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again
Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed”
Maxine pulled away to look at the man, who was blinking in confusion. Almost there.
Abruptly Maxine shifted their positions, pushing the man against the wall, looking him in the eye.
"Does it make you happy you're so strange” The man was completely enticed now. Maxine smiled back at him. Raising the hand that wasn’t holding him in place she took a syringe out of her clutch, pulling the needle cover with her teeth. She no longer remembered when or from whom she had learnt the correct dose of potassium chloride for evidence-free deaths, but she was thankful.
"And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame"
Shifting her weight to the other foot Maxine drew a breath and plunged the needle fully into the man’s carotid artery. Immediately he started slipping down the side wall, and when he hit the ground the man was already unconscious. “We can watch the world devoured in its pain,” Maxine sang as she watched him die.
She put the syringe back in her clutch and placed the dead man on the moistened square seat as if he'd drunkenly fallen asleep. She went back inside to go find the nearly unconscious girl and pay her a ride home. When she rejoined the stuffy air of the nightclub, Maxine felt brand new.
