when the sharks are swimming we will watch them kill you, baby.

Who: Mason, Micah, Evelyn, and Bryce.
Where: Feeding Frenzy, middle of the ocean, surrounded by sharks. Yay.
When: Right after this.

By some miracle that probably had more to do with sheer determination and the desire not to die out here, between them they had managed to get Mason up on the makeshift raft and keep him there. The group’s one and only werewolf wasn’t exactly happy to be the one on the debris, especially given how much bigger he was than the wood upon which he was now supported, but he had understood Bryce’s suggestion enough to know that arguing was not only pointless but downright stupid. Sharks were attracted to blood and he couldn’t very well angle himself to keep his wounded side out of the water the way Micah had held his hand up until the blood had stopped. Therefore it made the most sense for him to be on the raft, as much as he wanted one of the kids to be up on there, as much as he believed it was better suited to any one of them given their smaller statures. None of that mattered now, not when he needed to keep from attracting more of them with his blood in the water, and after managing to get up on the wood he had done what he could to help whoever it was beside him at the time bind -- or at least pad and therefore apply pressure to -- the wound. Mason had lost track of things for a while.

That probably had a lot to do with how exactly he had missed Evelyn applying the wards to everyone, himself included. For a little while there he sort of drifted in and out of awareness, not losing consciousness exactly but definitely distancing himself from the reality in which they had found himself, even if it wasn’t intentional on his part. His mind kept wandering to the same thing, or rather the same person. Red hair, green eyes, a bright and happy smile, her voice a phantom echo in his ears that had him starting back to full consciousness only to find her nowhere nearby. All things that was a relief. As much as he wanted to make sure Kiley was all right he didn’t want her anywhere near here.

Thankfully his start back to awareness hadn’t been too obvious, physically. He was still balanced on the board, looking up at a sky growing increasingly dark. Stars were coming into view now. Mason blinked a few times, trying to wake up properly, and then turned his head to find the kids close by. “Anybody see anything yet?” Mason was still the chaperone in the group and that meant he had every intention of keeping track of the situation, as best as he could anyway from where he had come to find himself, figuratively and literally.

This shit ain't cute.

Who: Nick and Erin
When: Morningish
Where: U of M hospital

Erin was getting real used to seeing people die in the most bizarre and horrific ways possible.

She had really, really hoped that she'd go to sleep and wake up in the morning and whatever the barrier had done to her would have worn off and she could be normal again. The second she had hit her alarm clock off, only to see it being used to bludgeon someone to death, she knew this was not the case.

That morning had been a special sort of hell, and Erin had learned early on that she needed to get out of her house while somehow managing to touch as few things as possible. She could handle horror-movie images in her head at all times, but not when they involved her family members. She'd dressed and hauled ass out of the house. By the time she'd driven to work she'd mentally experienced her car being used to run people down no less than three times before she realized she had to keep her hands on the steering wheel at all times and move as little as possible.

At the hospital, the first thing she did was don a pair of plastic gloves. She tried to keep as much of her skin as possible covered. This seemed logical.

She then proceeded to ask every person she encountered to rate the level of trauma in their life on a one to ten scale. This was somewhat less logical, but anytime she got a five or lower, she touched them. Just because she had to keep checking if it wore off. This was the sort of mood she was in when she leaned gently against the elevator wall, needing to go get a coffee. She needed a lot of coffee for this. And then the elevator doors opened and she saw Nick.

"Nick!" Fuck, man. She just couldn't help it. "Perfect. On a scale of one to ten, one being you once had a bad picture day at school and ten being a survivor of the Titanic only to end up dying of cancer after suffering through twenty years of an abusive marriage to someone who routinely made you watch them murder puppies, how traumatic would you say your life has been?"

I can still remember how that music used to make me smile

Who: Melody and open!
When: Midday
Where: Streets of SO, near the high school scene

When Melody had woken up on Monday morning and heard about what was going on at SOHS, she'd had two immediate thoughts. The first was that this was probably only going to encourage her parents' argument in favor of private schools; the second was that she wanted to go down and help. She hadn't really been sure how, she'd just shown up, and run into a group of friends. One of which had gently pulled her aside and pointed out that maybe, just maybe, a crowd full of scared, traumatized family members wasn't the world's greatest place for a psychic amplifier. Just in case. Melody had conceded to this fact and retreated, but she never went far. Rather than abandon the idea altogether, she'd gone back home, grabbed a guitar case, and gone out again. That time she planted herself further down the street, in an area a lot of people had to cross to get to the school, put up a sign explaining her intentions, and started to busk. At the end of the day she used every last dime thrown into her guitar case to buy food or coffee or blankets or whatever it was that seemed to be in demand by the family members who refused to leave the school. She'd come back and done the same every day.

The music was always light. Nothing deep, nothing heavy, no depressing lyrical content. At the same time, nothing so flippantly cheerful or optimistic to be seen as insensitive. Sometimes people stopped and listened, sometimes people had requests. If people made requests, she filled them. That lead her into a rendition of American Pie, and the man who had asked her for it smiled and stayed a few verses. Then he threw a dollar in her guitar case and moved on.

It wasn't a bad way to spend the days.

TIME UPDATE

DATE: Thursday, October 1, 2009

BIRTHDAYS: Dominic, Camilla, Juliette (womp womp)

WEATHER: No changes

EVENTS: There actually is news regarding SOHS' barrier scenario today, but it's probably not going to make anyone feel better. Attempting to drill through the barrier obviously didn't work, but apparently going under it is not a total loss. Officials have reported that the sewers beneath the school are still completely open, unblocked, and yes, functional. So the newest plan is to try and get into the school from underneath. Spoiler alert: it won't work. :-P

But what about those inside the school? Well, we've got good news and we've got bad news. The good news is that two of the groups are advancing! The bad news is that... two of the groups are advancing, and it's probably going to suck for them all around.

Details behind a cut. )
