[Placed Thursday evening. The sound of hospital equipment can be heard in the background, beeping softly.]

[After getting some strange letters, Rorschach finally calls the phone number on the odd letterhead from the jail's public phone.]

[Ring]

[There's the sound of many people walking in the background, and a few cheers of various mask names and chants of support. Then, a voice comes in loud and clear. It is not a question. It is not an exclamation. It is just one word said with all the force that could ever truly be packed into one simple word.]

WHAT.

[Posted absurdly late/early on the day of the shooting, depending on your perspective, and copious amounts of alcohol were probably involved.]

[From inside his apartment, Rorschach has heard commotion from people moving about in the halls and shouts from outside. It doesn't take long for him to tap into the media machine.]

[ Open Call on the Vigilante Communicator Network ]

[Rorschach - as Mike Caulfield - has just returned home after meeting the media circus face-to-face. After being asked by too many reporters if he knows Thomas Brandon, if they're neighbors, and - after noting his physique - if they ever go to the gym together, Rorschach gives his answer in the form of a broken camera. The comm starts with silence and heavy breathing, but soon a voice dripping with disdain comes in loud and clear.]

Filthy gutter trash. In way, out of place, spreading lies.

[This takes place Monday afternoon, after this hits Rorschach.]

[The island counter in the center of the kitchen has been cleared off. All the junk, dishes, and half-eaten meals that had once been on it were shoved to the floor without ceremony or care. On the entire counter is a massive drawing made out of ketchup, expanded to take up nearly the whole of the rectangular counter. It's a crude rendition of this crest. Over the drawing is a message written in the same ketchup:]

[Rescue's voice is urbane, British, and eternally calm. After a while it's easy to realize it's manufactured voice, because certain words are said in the same tone when they are repeated in a way natural voices can't replicate. Therefore he doesn't sound as nervous as he is.

The comm control obliviously laptop is activated somewhere in Bathos. So is his comm number.]

This is [ever so slight pause] Rescue. The network is online, and if you need me, I'm here.

[Silence.]

[Just after the damn lights go out, once he realizes the comms still work, and a few seconds after talking to Rowan and Adam.]

Make sure the folks you care about are safe. Looks like Mockingbird's making good on her threats.

[Thomas is so distracted and distant that he sounds like somebody reading a fortune cookie from the bottom of a well.] The commlinks are insecure. Use caution in public address and choose your allies carefully.

[After this, Rorschach goes for a jaunty night on the town. He investigates Virginia Mason Hospital and a Starbucks across the street before sending out this open comm at nearly 3 am.]

Rorschach, someone just contacted me on the boards under my real name telling me to stay off the streets and quit being a mask. There are only a few people who know who I am. There is you, Cipher, the Bat, and Oracle. Any others have long since left town and were friends of mine besides. I can't imagine any of the people I've just named betraying me, even the Bat, as much as we don't get on. Someone must have worked it out on their own. Seen me, something.

Although I'm certain you all are wondering in regards to relevance. In truth? There is none. I've had a link to this site sitting in my inbox for ages thanks to a former business associate who thought I might find it interesting, and while the partnership has since soured, the link remained. I thought it time I look into it, and an interesting fact was as good a means of introduction as any. Feel free to take it as you wish.
