Did we all enjoy the evening? Compliments to Mr. Mercer who hosted the fine event. I'd have sought you out afterwards but found myself busy. I left a gift instead, housewarming - do let me know if you found it and if it helped contribute to the atmosphere.

To the rest of you - those of you who put up with a Phantom for an evening - I thank you. It's a rare evening one can spend out and enjoy themselves at without minimal issues. That said - to the Skeleton, I hope you make good use of what you were told. New lessons will come your way only if I see it fully employed. To the Belly-dancer, keep an eye out on the horizon. Plans for fear are always underway. To the Fairy - how foolish were you over the course of the evening? Come on, don't be shy. To the girl in 18th century ware. I'd advise you to be as proactive as you wish to be. You'll enjoy yourself more. And do realize that while most things can be taken as a joke, there's truth.

And most importantly, Detective Warda - I'm sorry your stay had to end so quickly. Perhaps next time, we'll make it a more permanent arrangement.

It seems that I missed a rousing success of a party by devoting my evening to work instead of play. Then again, I've also managed to avoid ending up in the local society rags, so perhaps my own night was more of a 'rousing success' than that of the guests to the masked affair.

Masks are often much more telling about the person who wears them than the face they present to the world in their day to day. Worth considering, if the paper is to be believed about the anonymous assignations that supposedly took place. It might be worth wondering what the person you dragged into a dark corner is like in their everyday life. The King might think himself better than everyone around him, and the Vampire might want to prey on you in more ways than one. Books could be written about what the details of costume choice say about individual psychological makeup.

If we're to be masquerading as an event, I have to wonder how different this is from normal. Aren't we always wearing masks? Whenever someone asks 'how are you?' we put on a mask, a pleasant smile, and say we're fine. A mask, right there.

Of course for some of you, the vigilantes, villains, and knaves, the mask is even more metaphorically appropriate. Which one will you be donning? The one you normally wear as you ransack the city or the face you present to the public? Is there a third mask we should be aware of?

As for me; if I told you what I'll be doing I'd reveal more about myself then the mask will allow. This is the internet after all. For all I know, you're serial killers. I'd rather not make myself a target more then I already have.
