The Seattle Times: MURDER CASE DISMISSED )

Oct. 14th, 2010

So it had occurred to him, while he was finishing up his curriculum vitae, that he has no usable references. He had false documentation that would make him an illegal immigrant with what was essentially forged documents, and somehow he does not really see himself being able to put forward a case for being granted 'asylum seeker' status should it all turn to custard. It was a risk he had to take, regardless, but he had no references because they were all back on the other side. If they dig further and find certain... 'discrepancies' in the Department of Defence's records, he would probably have to serve time in federal prison.

That... might be interesting.

I had the most wonderful epiphany this morning whilst rethinking my life.

I don't suppose anyone can direct me to an employment agency.

I have a question I'd like to see answered honestly. No showmanship, no practiced line. I want a real answer.

The people in masks. Why do you do what you do? What is about? Is it about getting famous? Is it about being the hero, or a crusade to fix the world with your bare hands? What is it that motivates you?

And for the record, if there are any clowns hovering around on here, I fail to see the point of your little stunt. Congratulations! You stole a pittance from a small-time bank and shot your own men. What did you hope to accomplish with such a pointless fling? The only dead civilian was a guard on your side. Hardly a successful run when you're killing your own. It's a wonder anyone is willing to work with you at all.

I blame my upbringing on this, but I do have a question for most of you. At what point do we term the current situation with the vigilantes - these killers - the conflict with the gangs - all of these difficult things - as an actual crisis? I write as a hobby and wanted a public opinion before recording current events.

Excuse the eccentricities, please.

Courtroom News

A press release picked up by several papers:

"Trial begins this week in the case of Louis Ramirez. Ramirez is the alleged perpetrator in the killing of a downtown shopkeeper last year, arrested after seven months of investigation by the Seattle police. Ramirez's case drew much attention from civil rights groups who declared that Ramirez was the victim of racial profiling, and moved for a mistrial citing mishandled evidence and misconduct in the arrest.

The case grew enough in notoriety to be taken up by the firm of Graves and Pettigrew. Lucas Graves, the well-known defense attorney, will be representing Ramirez in the trial. Graves, known for taking on civil rights cases, and as a defender of the urban poor, is defending Ramirez pro bono. Representing the state will be a team led by attorney Kayla Michaels.

Graves and Pettigrew have issued a short public statement in the days leading up to trial. "We hope that this trial will be speedy and to the point. It is unfortunate that this case has even led to trial, but we will demonstrate without a doubt that our client, Louis Ramirez, is a scapegoat. Perhaps with the trial finished the authorities can resume the search for the true perpetrator in this tragic murder."
