[Public Post-This was also read shortly after his appointment, as well as printed just about...everywhere.] FYI-Official Statement from the Seattle Police Department:
In recognition of the service provided to the citizens of Seattle during the latest emergency, the Seattle Police Department has officially lifted the All Points Bulletin on the so-called masked vigilantes. The Seattle Police Department does not advocate citizens taking the law into their own hands, as a matter of principle and public safety. However, the Department does recognize the effort put forth to protect
all of the citizens of this great city.
Seattle has a long way to go towards rebuilding, this is the greatest city in the world, with hte potential to become even better. We, as the agency entrusted with protecting this city, owe these masked vigilantes a debt of gratitude, and an apology. It is your commitment and devotion to duty in patrolling the streets, investigating crimes, and supporting the operation and mission of this Department that have made our streets safer, assisted in keeping a state of emergency from turning into a national tragedy, and this Department and this city thank you.
In the future we, as a Department, will continue to do our jobs protecting this city and it's residents. However we recognize that there may, at times, be situations beyond our expertise and beyond our understanding at which point we will
not hinder the involvement of those with a clearer understanding of the situation.
As we work together to make this city safe and build peace within our communities, I look forward to facing these challenges and opportunities with every citizen of this city. From here on out this city owes it to itself to foster a culture that values integrity, accountability, ethical decision-making and respect for civil and constitutional rights for every single resident of the metropolitan area. The days of dividing this city are over, the days of lawlessness and distrust are behind us.
