Detective West,
I have a question for you concerning the joke you told me yesterday. I have repeated it to an associate of mine who seems to believe that I included extraneous information. He believes that a joke should contain very few words, while I believe that setting up the peripheral world is important to the understanding of the humor. He thinks that certain aspects of the joke should be shorn, while I believe that all were vital to the impact of the humor.
As it is your joke in question, I thought that you could shed some insight on this matter. Thank you.
