It's only awkward if we make it awkward...

Who: Chloe and Wally
Where: Outside their apartment building
When: Evening

It was quite remarkable how Chloe had finally remembered to take out the trash. Rather, it was remarkable how Leeloo had to remind her; dogs shouldn't have to remind their owners of everyday stuff like this. Still, it only made Chloe all the more thankful for having her.

She dragged the bags out to the trashcans and took a moment to crack her back and take a deep breath. That's what happened when she let them fill so much, they were heavy as hell. And Chloe wasn't exactly the heavy weight carrying type. She looked around herself suspiciously. These days you couldn't be too careful because of the demons and she wasn't in the mood for a face off.

In the process of looking around, she saw Wally sitting in a car. And while she debated whether or not to approach him after last time, Chloe quickly decided on doing so. Leaving the trash bags by the trash cans she walked over, smiling brightly. "Hey Wally! What's up?"

So You Saved a Mermaid...

Who: Charlene and Otter
When: Mid-afternoon
Where: The hospital

Otter hadn't slept so well. Every time his eyes closed he saw the face of the dead woman and even worse, he saw Lene's. Worse because she hadn't died right there but he still didn't know if she was actually okay. He'd only gone to bed because Liseli and Jacy had quite literally put him there and threatened unpleasantness if he didn't get some rest. Yet somehow, after waking up, he'd managed to not jump in his car and zoom off for the hospital right away. His plants needed tending to and it wouldn't be very fair to them if he just abandoned them because he was worried. They hadn't done anything wrong and after his text conversation with Piper he knew he wouldn't have time to do it that night.

It was well into the afternoon by the time Otter peeked his head into the room he'd been told the mermaid was in. Sitala had, surprisingly, not put up much of a fight when he had told her she either needed to go into his backpack so no one saw her or stay outside. Her feet were currently pressing against his spine in a way that wasn't quite comfortable. Stop moving, he thought at her, only to get a few mutterings that made him shake his head. "Hey," he called, stepping the rest of the way into the room and trying not to stare. She really was a mermaid! Gills on her neck, webbing on her hands and... wow, that was definitely a huge tail. Yet she was still the most beautiful thing Otter'd ever seen and his mouth gaped. "You look better... uhh... remember me?"

I Would Just Stand and Stare

Who: Kristen and Missy
When: Early morning (like 6:30 a.m.)
Where: Their home

Kristen lay awake for awhile, hands folded behind her head as she stared up at the no-longer glowing stars that she'd arranged so perfectly on her ceiling. They were nothing like real constellations but that was the point; these actually looked like what the constellations were named for. She was especially proud of the Orion one, that'd taken three weeks and way too much running back and forth to the store on part of her sister. Not that Missy'd ever complained, but Kristen felt a little bad all the same. Sometimes.

After several minutes had passed she could tell; it was one of those mornings. She couldn't hear anything anywhere in the house except her own movements and that meant that yep, Missy'd not come in until way after when she should've and now she was going to oversleep and not have anything to eat while she rushed out the door. Sighing, Kristen climbed out of her lofted bed and grabbed her brush, dragging it through her messy hair as she padded down the hall and stairs to the kitchen. She needed to stretch on her tiptoes to reach the eggs and other materials from the shelf Missy always kept them on, and then the stool that existed just for this reason had to be slid over in front of the counter so that Kristen could go about making scrambled eggs. She reached up to flick on the radio, head bobbing as the sound of Fireflies broke the early morning quiet. Any second now Missy would stumble through the door, probably still in her pajamas.

Pawn to Queen Four

Who: Bart and Saundra
When: Early to mid-evening
Where: He's not entirely sure yet, he asked her to pick

So he'd called her a little while earlier to get directions to her house...only to find out it was quite literally around the corner. 'Oh well, I suppose at least I'd save on gas', he joked to himself as he pulled up to her home. Stepping out of the hearse he checked his suit, yes he was still wearing one of his standard black suits as he hadn't managed to buy any new clothes. The weather was still pretty damn humid, but Bart was quickly getting used to it as he pretty much had no other choice till he could find the time to go shopping. Heading up to the door he went over his standard pre-date checklist: tie was straight, hair was not flying all over the place, flowers were in hand, looked like he was pretty ready.

Standing at the door he checked his breath for a second before knocking lightly and smiling. It had been a little while since he'd done any serious dating, at least a few months before he'd moved here from Royalton. One way or another he was sure this evening was going to be quite the adventure, especially if the teenage daughter was the one who answered the door. A momentary feeling of panic shred its way through his psyche as he realized he hadn't planned on that contingency.

Checking In

Who: Margaret, Brady, and K-lee
When: Later in the evening, June 29th
Where: Liberty Inn
What: Margaret checks in after dinner with K-lee at the Mudhouse.

"That would be tremendous," she said to K-lee's offer about her bags. She wasn't terribly impressed by the outside appearance of the Liberty Inn, but it was clean and nice enough. After spending a week in the most posh hotel in New York City anything would pale in comparison.

She lugged the heavier of her bags out of the backseat and set its wheels down to pull up the walkway. How she managed to get her luggage down to two suitcases and a purse... Well, that was a trade secret. She was ready to just check in, take a bath and catch some sleep.

The door was open so she lugged her bags inside waiting for K-lee to follow. It was rather decent of her to be helping someone she'd only just met. Margaret sidled up to the counter leaning over it and looking to see if anyone was around. "It appears our proprietor is out." A little smile twisted her lips. Isn't this just the perfect ending to an already stupidly long day? "Thanks again for all your help," she said to K-lee, almost as if she were excusing her from hanging around longer. "Perhaps we could have lunch or dinner soon, so I can repay your kindness." Did I just ask a model out? Margaret was just a little impressed with herself.

We'll Never Fade Away

Who: Cameron, anyone who might be gather to listen to him speak or talk to him after (you know you want to)
When: Around 5:00 p.m.
Where: In front of Town Hall

It was very carefully set up; from various people placed in the crowd to keep things under control and going the right way to "impromptu" flyers stuck up all over Scarlet Oak. Everything that Cameron did was set up that way, results of having been raised by the Calverts and groomed to take over the family business eventually. With Amanda naturally, couldn't be a Calvert without a Blake. Even if this time around she'll have my last name too. No, not thinking about that. Gotta concentrate. Anyhow, carefully set up, Cameron liked to think about all of this before he stepped up to the spotlight. He'd put word out to hunters for reasons extending past just scouring supernaturals. Someone needed to be out there in the crowd to make sure that someone didn't freak out and try to kill him. Which would just prove my point if they did. He was also aware of that. He hadn't explained that part to Amanda, however. Some things were better left unsaid.

Taking a long drink of water, Cameron smiled at the people who had come with him. "Oh don't look so nervous, we're not doing anything illegal. Freedom to assemble, freedom to speak... you all know these things. Relax." He waited until the tension eased a little before walking out to stand on the steps of the town hall. There was no stand because there weren't any notes. He didn't need any of those for something like this. This was something he actually believed in and there was really no preparing past thinking it all out. His father'd never approve of a lack of notes.

Travel Weary

Who: Margaret and wide OPEN
When: Early Evening, June 29th
Where: The Mudhouse

Once her mind was set on Scarlet Oak it was only a matter of securing tickets for travel and packing her things once more. She'd quickly grown accustomed to living out of suitcases; it wasn't a big production to pack it all in again.

She wanted to take the train. Heaven forbid there wasn't a train running anywhere near Scarlet Oak. She still hadn't adjusted to driving on the other side of the road and didn't trust herself alone in a car on the long trip from Buffalo, New York. She was left to the bus, a slightly cheaper version of a Greyhound. She wasn't entirely opposed to lengthy travels; international flights were practically endless. This bus business however was for the birds.

Fourteen hours in an uncomfortable chair with a snoring seatmate. )

[info]dulcepericulum

a series of firsts

Who: Lex and Domina (and some NPC goodness of Hades the familiar)
When: Early evening
Where: Ad Gustum

Domina was roused back to a state of consciousness, lying naked, bleeding, and broken in the park, with an ambulance on its way. Her brain hadn't really woken up yet; she felt woozy and confused, and a lot like she'd just want to go back to sleep, but she knew one thing. She was not going to a hospital. She'd done what her mother had told her, and she was done. End of story. She wasn't going to the hospital, and she wasn't going to have her wounds and weaknesses paraded about any more than they already had been. That decided, she shifted into her hawk form.

A born were, shifting had never been a painful experience for Domina. It had always been effortless; a happy, comfortable experience. This shift wasn't. It was just as excruciating as when her wing had been broken in the first place. She'd never had a bad injury in her life, but her mother had told her once that shifting accelerated the growth process - and that rapid, continuous shifting, along with avoiding the initially-injured form for a while, was even better. So that was what she did. She shifted back and forth between human and hawk, ignoring the baffled expressions and comments of the passer-bys that had come to her aid, and when it finally felt like she had the strength to fly again, she took off immediately.

Her destination was not her home, but the house next-door - Ad Gustum. Her mother had told her to come straight home (if able), but right now, Domina could really give a flying fuck (no pun intended) what her mother wanted. She'd left her office window open, and after flying inside, she shifted back to human form and all but collapsed on the floor. She was in a world of pain, and she'd lost so much blood.

In which Lex bleeds, and Domina trips balls. )

Revenge is Sweeter Than You Ever Were

Who: K-lee, Malo (NPC) and Linda Diaz (NPC)
When: Late afternoon
Where: Diaz household

K-lee hadn't needed to look very hard to find out where the Diaz's were keeping themselves these days. It wasn't like they'd ever been hard to locate when she was younger and that didn't seem to have changed. There were still way too many of them and they all lived too close together for her understanding. Just sharing a house with her parents, aunt and brother had been too much for her. The entire family? Not a chance in hell. That many demonic-blooded people couldn't exist together without someone ending up dead, related or not.

Not that it mattered right then. She was sitting in her car, staring up at the house that she'd found out Roxy lived in, fingers drumming on her steering wheel as she tried to figure out the best way to get Roxy's mother alone. Because, knowing Linda (and K-lee did have that advantage after knowing Roxy for all that time back in school), she wasn't alone in there. She probably had half a dozen friends over for no reason other than to chat. Or even worse than friends, her in-laws. K-lee'd gotten along just fine with all of them, chatting away easily, but she knew that her reception if she walked in to face a bunch of Diaz's wasn't going to be anywhere near pleasant.

Want to go watch me ruin a life, Malo? )
