Kiss me, oh kiss me

Who: Freddie and Rhys
When: not sure, but it's late evening
Where: Text messages and then outside Rhys' house.

Retrieving her cell phone from her messenger bag, Freddie didn't bother to dry up the tears that wouldn't stop falling before beginning to tap furiously away at the keypad. The screen was blurry by the tears falling onto it, but that didn't stop Freddie or slow her down. She needed this text message to be delivered fast, so she could get to Rhys as fast as she could:

I hope you really mean what you said about being there for me all the time because shit just kinda got real and really shitty really fast, and I need you. I wouldn't bother you if I didn't really feel like shit. I'll come to you, where are you? Love, Freddie.

Without waiting for an answer Freddie stood to her feet, wiped the tears from her face and left her room, darting down the stairs faster than ever before. Even Mrs. Krause randomly appearing on the hallway that lead to the front door of the house didn't stop Freddie from walking right out and jumping into her brand new and conveniently convertible car, sliding the keys into the ignition furiously as she placed her cell phone on the dashboard. She decided to drive around while Rhys didn't text her back. Anything but that house. Anything at all.

If that can make it right )

Attempted Escape Thwarted

Who: Tayne and Krist
Where: The quieter edges of the packlands
When: Late afternoon

Even with earplugs, even despite how exhausted he felt, Tayne couldn't sleep. He tried, for a good hour, but he still kept starting awake every few minutes to some half-heard sound, some strong and unexpected scent, some fall of light that seemed brighter than usual. It was frustrating, and in the end he went out again, squinting even with sunglasses and a hat, and went for the edges of town.

The edges of the packlands, which he already lived on. He needed to get farther away from the streets with their cars and kids running around screaming and barking dogs. He wanted someplace with no powerlines or humming electricity. So, the far edges of the packlands seemed like a good, quiet place to maybe catch a nap out in the grass. Or a tree. If he was a cat now, maybe he wouldn't even roll over and fall out of said tree.

So he drove the big Chevy truck off the main road and onto a dirt one-- probably faster than he should have been going, but he was nearly half-asleep as it was.

An Informative Non-Date

Who: Artus and Verity
When: 5:00pm
Where: Olive Garden in Ann Arbor

Verity arrived at The Olive Garden in Ann Arbor promptly at five. She generally ran a few minutes late every now and then, but she was always on time when it mattered to her. Since they were eating in a nice, semi-casual place, she wore a pair of jeans, sandals and a white peasant blouse with her hair pulled back from her face. She didn't want to look like she was dressing up since Verity really preferred to wear whatever was comfortable, but she felt like she looked okay. After making sure she had arrived before Artus, Verity was seated near a window in the back. There were only a couple other filled tables around, so their booth was somewhat private, which was nice since she figured Artus might be more willing to talk about his book without prying eyes or eavesdropping ears. Verity sat there and waited, trying not to chew nervously on her lip. She rarely ever got nervous. Verity liked to think she had some confidence, but after her talk with Loren, she was starting to probably read more into this whole thing than she ought to.

Maybe I'm realizing that I have a thing for professors )

A Favor for a Favor

Who: Nate and Ezra
When: Late morning
Where: Just outside Cosmic Comics, then a French restaurant

Nate had woken that morning a bit sore, but determined not to spend the morning lounging in bed. Not that his grandmother would let him anyway. The sound of cats outside his window was enough to get him moving, and after re-bandaging some of his fresher cuts on his arms, Nate dressed in a pair of dirty jeans and a wrinkled long sleeve shirt before he grabbed his keys, not bothering with breakfast since it was so close to lunch time anyway. He drove to the comic book store, and went inside, wandering for awhile as he tried to find something decent to buy. Some of his wounds had begun to scab over, making them itchy, and he scratched them absently through his shirt as his eyes skimmed over the new releases. It took longer than he would have liked, but he settled on 30 Days of Night. Nothing like a bloody vampire comic to read over a greasy burger and fries.

It has come to my attention recently that we have something in common. )

Peregrine Family Voicemail

Who: Jeff Peregrine to Tayne, Torshael, and Vanessa
When: At various times during the day
Where: The telephone

A voicemail is left on all three of the children's phones, pretty much the same for each, from their grandfather. Though it's left at a different time for each of them, it's definitely times when Jeff would expect each of them to be at work.

"Hey. Got something we need to talk about as a family. Your mother and I want us all to get together for dinner tomorrow night. Call if that's a problem."

It doesn't have a name attached, but Jeff Peregrine definitely is a familiar enough, and unique enough, vocie to be recognized. The fact that their grandfather is calling a family meeting usually means something Big.

bond over blood

Who: Rowan and Nate
When: Early evening
Where: Nevermore

It had proved to be an interesting day for Nate. Meeting Ezra had been a surprise, eating in a French restaurant an even bigger one, and now he was someone skilled to teach him beyond what his grandma thought he was ready for. All in exchange for some assistance... how could Nate refuse that? With his mind full of overcrowding thoughts, Nate drove to Nevermore and felt like the lack of cars meant that the shop might not be too terribly busy. He hated going into the place when it was full of curious, annoying people. Especially when it was full of giggling teenage girls who felt sure that they would open a book on vampires and find out that they did sparkle. Ugh. Still, he couldn't see people moving about inside from the window of his car, so he got out, locked his doors and headed into Nevermore, his hands in his pockets and his eyes avoiding any kind of contact with whoever else might be there.

Rowan had found a bit of money waiting for her in her bank account after all, so she decided to squeeze in a trip to Nevermore before her first shift at the Bucket. She'd been a regular at the store before she'd been sent away, and truthfully, she was hoping that maybe they would have hired someone knew. Someone she had never met before, someone who wouldn't report to Dorian that she was looking at the books on blood and black magic. Because she didn't think she had a snowball's chance in hell on avoiding some strong opinions on the matter if it went his way. Inside, she headed for her destination and did her best to look... inconspicuous. I'm not doing anything wrong, I'm not doing anything wrong... She just kept telling herself that as she sat in the aisle and flipped through a book, keeping the cover against her knees so no one could see. God, Row, grow up.

This should be interesting. )

Operation: Visitation Rights, Phase One

Who: Isis and Scott
Where: Isis' house
When: 10am ish

Ice cream wasn't making her feel better, catnip wasn't making her feel better. Even cuddling with Seth all night hadn't made her feel better. Why did he have to want to be involved?

Isis had sent her brother on his way. He had work and stuff. Besides, him watching her mope and worry wasn't going to do either of them any good. Of course, neither was curling up on the couch, watching soap operas and not eating her ice cream. She'd called in sick to work, she was too much of a mess and would make the patients nuts just being around them.

She wanted to hide under her bed in cat form until the whole world just went away.

Stupid man...

TIME UPDATE

DATE: Tuesday, June 9, 2009.

WEATHER: It's sunny, cloud-free skies and soaring temperatures today!

EVENTS: Scarlet Oak's local medical examiner, Dr. Erin Forsythe, releases a statement regarding the body of an eighteen-year-old man found yesterday in the woods. While it was widely speculated that it was a death-by-were situation, it turns out that this isn't the case. Dr. Forsythe's statement concludes that while he was certainly clawed to death, it was by human - or vampire - hands. Samples have been sent for DNA testing. The police have no leads as of yet, but all weres have been cleared as suspects.

The local human rights activists were sure that this would go the other way, but they're taking it in stride. Today it's announced that a lawsuit has been filed against Heme. For what, you might ask? Why, failing to meet equal-opportunity employment standards, of course. It's argued that having a purely vampiric staff is discrimination. Heme reacts quickly and puts employment ads up for people of all races, though non-vampires need not apply for bouncer positions - for obvious reasons.

If you have something you feel warrants a mention in the next time update, please let the mods know!

The Talk: Post-LOM Version

Who: Charlotte and her mother, Isadora (NPC)
When: Around 9 AM
Where: Their home

The morning was going beyond smoothly. A lot of the campers were already at Charlotte's house and packing up their stuff, and Charlotte expected to be ready to leave within the next ten or twenty minutes. Really, she couldn't help but step back and think to herself about how smoothly this was all going.

That, obviously, was her mistake.

Charlotte had just closed the back door to the SUV. When she turned around, her mother was standing on the front porch. Isadora smiled at her daughter, and gestured for her to come closer. Figuring it was time to say goodbye, Charlotte jogged over to her mother. "Sweetie, come inside for a moment. You left something in the kitchen."

Run away! )
