[john never drinks. he can't afford to with always having to fight to survive. plus, he's got a history with the stuff that makes him personally want to avoid it. so of course, the one and only time he has ever had a drink and gotten drunk, he'd end up in this... situation.
he still isn't completely sure what's going on. john tried to keep up with as much as he could of what was being said to him (listened in on all the crimes like murder, swallowed down the drunken guilt until he was too numb to feel it), but it's hard to make much sense of it all at the moment.
he's basically a drunk, lost puppy as he tries to fiddle with the communicator until he gets it working, stumbling around in the orange jumpsuit while being intensely aware that his powers are gone. john waves even though the wave is likely not picked up on by the camera except maybe a few fingers.] These
