ANNOUNCEMENT

[info]nottorpedotech
[info]shipslog
Announcement sent directly to all PADDs on the Enterprise
New arrivals will see this upon first PADD login after their debriefing and physical

To the crew of the Starship Enterprise and its Travelers:

We are now more than half a year into this anomaly that has brought this crew and the travelers together. In that time the Federation has spent some resources on the research of this phenomenon, but has thus far not been able to find the cause.

After a discussion with Captain Kirk and with approval from the Federation and Starfleet, we are taking over research of this anomaly. This will allow travelers of different fields of expertise to put their knowledge to use in ways we can no longer support as additional crew of this vessel. If Enterprise crew members are also interested in participating, this cannot be a full-time transfer and your time must be approved by Captain Kirk.

The new research crew will consist for the following teams:

  • Astrophysicists - This team will study the nebula and its unique properties to determine what caused the time rupture.
  • Quantum Physicists - This team will study the space-time continuum and determine the nature of this particular rupture, including if we can control the flow of arrivals and departures.
  • Physics Liaisons - This team is tasked with combining the intel of the other two teams to find connections between nebula properties and the time-rupture properties. Suited for scribes, analysts, or those with expertise in both fields.
  • Researchers - This team will be given access to all Starfleet and Federation knowledge on temporal anomalies. Their research will be provided to the other teams. This team will be given direct access to classified documents written by Ambassador Spock prior to his death.
  • Morale Officers - Separate from the official duties of the Traveler Liaison Program, Morale Officers will be tasked with keeping spirits up and suggesting ship changes to the Enterprise crew for added comfort. They will also be in charge of Traveler-specific activities that do not coincide with shore leave.

Other teams may be added as needed. To become part of one of these programs, please fill out the provided application at the end of this announcement. Interview questions may follow the completion of your application prior to approval.

Thank you,
Dr. Leonard McCoy
Chief Medical Officer & Traveler Research Lead

OOC: I dare you to ask Bones how he got put in charge of this project. lol

It's a different feeling to lose people here than at home, but in some ways, it still feels very similar. I suppose I am used to watching my loved ones meet their ends through more violent and final means when here there is at least a hope we will see them again.

The first friends I made on this ship are gone now and it still feels strange, even weeks or days later, to not see them around the lounge or other parts of the ship. The traditional words of my home world when we lose someone are"May we meet again."Those words hold more hope in the face of a nebula that can pluck our friends from anywhere and anywhen, at least, but that doesn't make it much easier to say goodbye to people you've come to care for.

I guess all we can really do is be grateful for the ones we have left.

Okay... this has stopped being fun and I'm just confused, lost and confused. And yes, I'm that confused I said it twice.

I was going to Disneyland, this is cool and all, but not Disneyland. I am also very, very lost. I think I've passed the same bulkhead twice. Or maybe more. Navigation, what even is this.

I've never been on any planet but Earth before, but I'm looking forward to exploring this one. I think the hardest part is going to be deciding just what I want to see and do down there.

I am going to do something I almost never do.

I think it's appropriate to acknowledge and compliment my entire medical team.

Six months ago, when my—for once, quiet—medbay was invaded by new arrivals needing physicals and care and assistance, I was not thrilled, given the size of my staff. But as our numbers have grown, the number of medical personnel has increased exponentially. We are well-staffed, well-maintained, and I can say, a damn good bunch.

Be you trainees, experimental practitioners, researchers, displaced Starfleet, or my regular staff, I'm proud to work alongside you. Thank you for all you do.

I don't think I've had anything to drink yet today, so you can consider this genuine.

Don't worry, I'll be back to my grumbling and griping tomorrow.

That was a lot of people. I'm sorry to everyone else who lost friends.

Sirius
Look at that, though! Maybe the third time will be the charm, right?

Not this again.

It's one thing to have your best mate show up, then disappear. It's another thing to have it happen twice. Especially when people you thought were your friends prove worthless.

Hello everyone. My name is Annie Zhao and I've actually been on board since we left Earth but I'm just now getting around to introducing myself. I'm a doctor and the newest member of the Enterprise medical staff.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you.

As much as I enjoy any excuse to get a concussion (no testimonials, thank you), perhaps a more sedate answer to spend the time might be an old Starfleet Tradition. And as an Old Starfleet, pretty much anything that I used to do regularly qualifies.

'Movie Night'. We used to do it every Monday that the mess hall wasn't filled with debris, but I suppose I can open it up to suggestions.

Also I might be able to arrange people's favourite films, I warn you though, a terrible movie designed to leech about two hours from your life is also traditional, so get your suggestions in before I'm forced to take dramatic action.

P.S. Anyone suggesting movies with explosions in them will be my new best friend.

I guess I'm supposed to introduce myself. My name is Octavia Blake. I grew up on a space ship because Earth was destroyed in my world by a nuclear war.

What is there to do around here? The last year or so I've been very physically active and I'd like to make sure I stay in shape.

It has been brought to my attention that there are now travelers living upon the Enterprise, a redundancy as I was already aware. It was also suggested that I introduce myself, although I was unable to ascertain the purpose that would serve. Nevertheless I am Spock, First Officer and Chief of Sciences.

It has also been made clear that this situation is unlikely to change in the near future and so I would ask that efforts are made to follow protocol aboard this starship on which you now reside.

Kirk

Captain, I am uncertain if this introductory post contains a warm and welcoming attitude as suggested in our meeting at Headquarters, but I do trust that it is sufficient?

Of course I get pulled into another dimension and it's a spaceship. Again. Where does it tell me on this thing when we get to be on a planet again?

Ok, wait, that's not my only question now.

2, are they really telling the truth about the giving back weapons thing? Because if they aren't, we're in afor a disagreement.

3, ships roster? Where is it? Or if it's easier, has anyone seen an Anakin or Bianca? There are others on the list, but those two are priority right now.

I have mixed feelings about our return to the ship. Bring on the ground has been amazing. What I was able to see of this Earth is so beautiful and there's a part of me that wishes I didn't have to leave it.

At the same time, it will nice to get back to the ship, to space. I'm looking forward to seeing where she takes us next.

I know there are a lot of planned excursions organized by Starfleet, but I'd like to add a somewhat un-official one to the list. If anyone would like to come out to my ranch in the Mojave on Stardate 226405.29 (Monday), I've arranged for shuttles to transport people from San Francisco. There will be horseback riding, hiking, and perhaps I'll even fire up the grill. All are welcome.

[Mary]
I do hope you'll come so I can introduce you to some of my horses. And you could bring Jim if you want.

I hope we get to visit Los Angeles during our shore leave.

In the meantime, I have a fun game for everyone to play. You just need to figure out how, if you were immortal, you would deal with the crippling misery of constantly watching everyone you care about or will ever care about die without going bloody mental. Easy, right?

Ready, set, go!
