Ship's Log | To Boldly Go

I'm pleased to say that I'll be training in the Communications department, and specifically studying linguistics and diplomacy. I know that others are already in that department, and I look forward to working with you soon.

OH MY GOSH I MISSED MY BIRTHDAY It was almost a month ago! How did that happen? It's so easy to lose track of the days aboard this ship.

Okay, we can fix this! I just need an ice cream cake and I'll be okay. Do you guys in the mess hall think you can whip something up? I just discovered this flavor of ice cream - mint chocolate chip - and it's so good!

ELSA YOU DON'T REMEMBER THIS BUT ON MY LAST BIRTHDAY YOU GOT A COLD AND SNEEZED UP A BUNCH OF TINY SNOWMEN. They were adorable and tried to eat all my cake! We sent them to live up in the ice castle. It was the most amazing birthday ever!

I'd find this entire situation unbelievable but after the past few weeks, I'll just have to accept it.

If you guys hate the idea, it's okay, but

Is anyone interested in ice skating? It's something we used to do sometimes back home, it makes for good exercise, and it can be a lot of fun. Sometimes people fall until they've practiced but it doesn't hurt much.

It's just, it's something I can do to help break things up around here if anyone actually wanted to. I'm not even sure where we would do it, one of the recreation areas probably. But Anna and I discussed it and we thought it might be fun and I thought we should invite everyone else.

It's one thing to have your best mate show up, then disappear. It's another thing to have it happen twice. Especially when people you thought were your friends prove worthless.

I know many of us are in training for different disciplines. Is there anything more for people like my sister and me who don't know a great deal about this world yet? I'd like to be useful on the ship and I've been through plenty of schooling but I'm not sure how to approach it in this time.

Since apparently there's propaganda out there for all to pretend they're some kind of authority for the world I have lived on for millennia, and demand from those of you who know better, which in this case means less, I'll elaborate.

Gallifrey is a planet in another galaxy, free from the constraints of Time.

It is known as the Shining World of the Seven Systems by the more poetic of our number, which, you may have gathered, I am not among.

The primary city is known only as the Capitol. Perhaps it had some other name when it was initially founded - well before your sun could be called a star. Not much is known about the early times of Gallifrey - known, 'imaginatively', as 'The Dark Times'. But we know that it was controlled by the Pythia - a matriarchy that controlled its populace by holding science hostage, rebranding it as 'magic' that could only be mastered by the Sisterhood.

Then Rassilon, Omega and the Other came along to break the code of silence and engineer time travel and Time Lords, setting down the Laws of Time. The details are sketchy and up for debate, but we know eventually Rassilon turned tyrant, Omega got himself trapped in an antimatter universe and the Other committed suicide into the looms. I don't want to get into looms, but sufficed to say it's likely my entire people contain some element of the Other in their DNA as a result.

The legacy of this era is impossible to exaggerate to our world. We still quote the laws, have the relics and quote Rassilon in every coronation of president and we still answer to what they've done, millennia later. Rassilon and Omega have turned up in person, which brings a whole new meaning to 'outstaying their welcome'.

The organisation I work for, the Celestial Intervention Agency or CIA, was founded in these times and we're tasked to defend and tend to the Web of Time, removing paradoxes and representing Gallifrey's interests. Even though I'm here, my primary loyalty remains with Gallifrey and always will.

Not everyone on Gallifrey becomes a Time Lord. I suppose it's a kind of class system, Time Lords are tasked with more global issues. You are required to study for over a century at least, if not longer, depending on your desired course. Aliens have become Time Lords, humans included. When you live among us, your aging process has been slowed long enough to enable you to complete the course and do something other than promptly die of old age.

It's not something I've been entirely comfortable with, new as it has been in my time, but the results have been... adequate, if occasionally explosive.

I suppose I'll answer questions, assuming you're not about to be as idiotic about it as you were on my last message.

Alaska was beautiful. Much more my sort of climate than many of these places on Earth and we saw some animals that I've never seen before but read about on the PADD back on the ship. I think I liked that a lot better than I would the Hawaii place.

Attention everybody!

It's time for a public service announcement, especially if you're one of the overly cheerful, completely naive members of the public who happen to be traveling from place to place on a giant spaceship with me.

We are on earth, birthplace of humanity, and humans can be quite terrible to each other. I'm hoping by now they've all stopped blaming me for every terrible thing that happens and have learned some sense of self-responsibility but regardless! Don't trust everyone you meet and don't wander off alone by yourselves if you have no bloody idea of what the world is actually like.

This guy bumped into me today and I was like - Oh my gosh, sorry mister! My mistake! And then I went to buy some things and all my credits were gone! And like, that ID thing we need to get back on the ship, too. AHHHHHH IT IS NOT OKAY TO STEAL FROM PEOPLE. THAT GUY BETTER WATCH HIS STEP NEXT TIME.

The officers were so nice, though! They recovered all my things, but it was still NOT okay. I need chocolate.

I have to admit, I find myself more nervous about this shore leave than the last. Perhaps because I know Earth, but this isn't my home. Not my version, nor my time.

Also, I can't help but feel like those at Yorktown would be more prepared for an invasion of travelers from far off lands versus the planet, which might not be quite so accepting.
