God help you if you say expresso instead of espresso

Who: Tegan and Giada
When: Mid-afternoon
Where: Lenore's

Another entire day of handing out résumés. Today had been exponentially more difficult than before, considering Tegan had had to branch out into things which she found frankly beneath her abilities - and college degree. But work was work, and she wasn't afraid of it. Snobbish enough to think some work was beneath her, sure, but not afraid of performing it. Of course she would much rather do something related in any way to advertising or Public Relations, and the thought of being on the other side of Lenore's Book Store and Cafe's counter made her want to murder someone; but life was not fair. She had to deal with it.

After filling out the application and handing in her résumé to the barista, Tegan decided to stick around for a much deserved afternoon iced coffee. Armed with some short book that was probably pointless, she sat at one of the corner tables, turned to the entrance, and prepared to enjoy her pause. Because in Tegan's mind, you could totally consider looking for work a bit like pre-work work, and it called for pauses.

You look so dumb right now

Who: Aurelia & OPEN
Where: Convenience store
When: Mid-morning

Still shedding, Aurelia was not comfortable, but she had forced herself out of the apartment complex wrapped up as tightly as she could manage. She did not feel like leaving a trail behind her and it was utterly dismal outside. Usually, she would never have bothered, but mutterings about the news had already reached her ears and she wanted to see the headlines for herself.

It's natural selection, not a massacre. )

u in danger gurl

Who: Rose and Seer
When: Early evening
Where: Heme

Saoirse Shaddock was in a foul mood. She had found that today, for the first time since starting at Heme, she didn't want to go to work. She didn't want to face a ton of vampires, any one of which could be the fucking retard making them all look bad. She was in a mood to take no shit, and her attire for the day perhaps reflected this.

But she went. She sucked it up, and played good little vampire bartender. She smiled and made smalltalk when required. And yet all she really wanted to do was put a great big sign on the door that read "Dear vampires of Scarlet Oak: STOP BEING FUCKING RETARDED." Sadly, she did not think Grayson would approve. The thought of asking his permission was amusing, however. Enough to bring a slight smile and those damned tingles back. And in the next instant, she scowled and huffed, looking back down at the newspaper she'd spread out over the bartop. You listen up, self. I will have none of these shenanigans tonight. Not now, not ever.

Rainy Day Blues

Who: Ransom and OPEN
Where: Bargain Books
When: Mid-morning

With the way the rain was coming down, Ransom hadn't intended to leave the house. He hated the rain with a passion, refused to go out in it, and wasn't even working because of it. He wasn't a fully functioning person when distracted by the rain and didn't need to be working on anyone's automobile in an open garage. Nope, no way. But when the rain stopped for a short time that morning, he decided getting stuck somewhere else would be better than another 24 hours in close confines with his family.

The intent was to make it to Charlotte's house. Even though the last time he'd been there in the rain had been a disaster, Ransom was willing to bet her step-father was working today and wouldn't have time to torture him. He only made one stop along the way, stepping inside Bargain Books for a moment, though he was only in there a minute before he realized his quick stop might turn into a bit longer stay. It had begun to pour outside, and Ransom stared back at the rain as he backed away from the window. Dammit. He might be there a while.

TIME UPDATE

DATE: Friday, July 24, 2009.

BIRTHDAYS: None.

WEATHER: Still pouring rain, with no signs of stopping.

EVENTS: Why yes, for those who suspected it, it appears that yesterday was the calm before the storm. Scarlet Oak’s crime rate has taken a devastating blow. Half a dozen bodies are in the morgue of unnatural causes, and what’s worse: most – if not all – of them are clear vampire drainings with no attempts at covering it up. Many have been critical of city officials for not responding to the recent crime wave properly. Well, they’re responding now.

Effective immediately, minors of Scarlet Oak are under immediate curfew. All residents are being strongly advised not to leave their homes for anything other than work, and are advised to do so only in groups if absolutely necessary. Furthermore, any kind of travel on foot is strongly discouraged. Typically, Michigan curfew law for minors states that anyone under the age of 16 may not be out without a guardian between the hours of midnight and 6 AM. This has temporarily been increased in Scarlet Oak, for anyone under the age of 18, and between the hours of 10 PM and 6 AM.

What many may see as the final blow: the remaining days of the Berry Days festival have been canceled, with no word on whether the festival will re-open when things are ‘under control’. The vampire events for the festival are certainly not going to happen.

This whole thing is seen as a calamitous blow to not just vampire rights, but supernatural rights as a whole. Human rights activists are taking this lovely opportunity to generally sit back and go ‘see! See! We told you they were dangerous!’ The other side is just trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces and move from here.

Many are stunned by this action, seeing it for, essentially, a procedure only a few steps away from that adopted during the times of demon attacks. What the hell is happening in Scarlet Oak?

For the next couple of days, all police patrols have been doubled. What’s more, the Scarlet Oak police chief has announced they will be hiring a dozen new officers to cope with the crime wave.

But if you’re looking for a job and police work isn’t your cup of tea, the House of Interest is hiring shopkeepers and sales persons!

If you have something you feel warrants a mention in the next time update, please let the mods know!
