there's no reason to turn back now.

Who: Carter.
Where: The Budget Lodge; his room.
When: Morning.

When he woke it was with soreness radiating through his back and joints that spoke of strain and for a few moments that was enough to give him pause, remaining still in the bed that didn’t feel as comfortable as a decent mattress ought to. It was only when he slowly and carefully pushed himself up and into a sitting position that he realised why it felt the way it did, why there was a slightly peculiar smell coming from all direction and a strange feel to the carpet that spoke of too much use and too little care and maintenance. The room was a cheap one, budget in every way imaginable, dingy decor and unpleasant scars on the walls and stains in the corners that had Carter’s features shifting into a look of displeasure before it passed as quickly as it had come over him.

There was a good reason for him being here despite the fact that he could do better, why spend money on a roof and four walls when the basics would do the same job and leave funds for other essentials?

It was as he was digging around for the twin to the sock he had in his hand that he felt a shape beneath the bed that had nothing to do with the structure of the frame itself, making him step back and tilt his head to try and see what it was down there, his dark hair briefly falling across his field of vision before he swept it back with his free hand. The sock was tossed onto the bed as he lowered to a crouch and reached with both hands to the dark shape, clearly a bag or a case of some kind, more likely the former as he made contact with it and felt the material shift beneath his touch. )

TIME UPDATE

DATE: Monday, October 12, 2009

BIRTHDAYS: No Birthdays Today!

WEATHER: The weather is a little warmer than yesterday, but that’s not saying very much. It wouldn’t be wise to leave the house without a coat!

EVENTS: A full 24-hours have passed and not a person has grown the wiser to the spell that has taken over Scarlet Oak. Those in town continue to go about their lives in perfect contentment, albeit with a question here or there. Those traveling into town are none the wiser of anything changing them once they cross over the town line. And as for those leaving? Well… why would you want to leave when everything is so satisfying here in Scarlet Oak?

Life carries on much as it always has (or so far as anyone knows). With Monday being the beginning of a school week, the students and staff of Scarlet Oak High School return to the building with no fanfare or trepidation -- good thing the government boys packed up their equipment and lifted the quarantine from the block, lest that raise more questions than the spray paint, which was cleaned from most of the building by the time the students arrived. The staff, however, were privy to some of the more scandalous slurs against the fae that the janitorial staff hadn’t reached before they began work. What could all the graffiti possibly mean? Probably just some punk kids acting out. Right? Right.

Investigations continue regarding the murder of Pastor Daniel Lemuel. Most of the local news is concentrated on this story, especially considering that it’s the freshest bit of news that they can remember. Any helpful information or leads would be greatly appreciated.

As far as the fae who set this blank slate spell into motion? Well, they are quite content with their work. And why wouldn’t they be? Everyone is so happy!

Who: Nora and Zoie
Where: Hospital --> Their apartment
When: Mid-morning

"What I don't understand," Zoie said for what had to be the sixth time since waking up. "Is why I'm attached to all of this when it doesn't look like I need it." She had a broken arm and various cuts and scrapes, yes, but why was she hooked up to an I.V. and heart monitor? She had been staring at that little box and it seemed like everything was fine! Sure, she was just a lab technician, but she was pretty sure she knew when a heart was acting up. Actually, she felt like she had intimate knowledge of that for some reason. And with this hospital. I work here, that's it. Yes, that was it and Zoie was going to stick with that story instead of anything else. Which was probably was she was adamant that she not see her chart. A niggling feeling in the back of her mind told her that she already knew what was there, but she was fine with not thinking about it. She would rather stay there in the bed being happy and waiting for... something. Something was going to happen. Oh, yes! She was being discharged today! Turning towards the nurse who was cleaning around the house, Zoie opened her mouth. "Hey, do you know who-"

Her voice cut off when the door opened to reveal an older blonde who made Zoie's face lit up in a smile. "Nora!" Her big sister was here to take her home! Finally. Even though she was having a bit of trouble remembering exactly what had happened in the previous days, Zoie knew that she had been here for more than long enough. Anytime a hospital room started to feel familiar it had been long enough. "I'm so glad you're here; tell them to get this I.V. out of me so we can go." She glanced at the nurse again and wiggled her arm, eyebrow arched suggestively.
