TIME UPDATE

DATE: Thursday, September 10, 2009.

BIRTHDAYS: Cheyenne

WEATHER: No changes.

EVENTS: State-wide news is being pretty much dominated by yesterday’s stabbing incident at Scarlet Oak High School. Yesterday a senior stabbed a younger student with what authorities are describing as a deadly weapon – right in the middle of the cafeteria. The attacker, Karen McAllister, was arrested and expelled, and word is that McAllister acted because she suspected the victim, Penny Chess, was a witch. Yes, it’s a possible hate-crime. Coming in fresh on the heels of the recent terrorist bombings, everyone’s having a field day with this.

Classes at SOHS have been canceled for the day so that the staff may evaluate how to increase security at the school. Class will resume tomorrow. Unfortunately, officials have announced that the homecoming parade will be canceled. In light of recent events, perhaps that’s a good idea.

The bake sale at the middle school is still ongoing, and today is the field trip to the U of M hospital for the elementary school students.

If you have something you feel warrants a mention in the next time update, please let the mods know!

behind these hazel eyes

Who: Lily and Charlotte (and Anna, Charlie’s familiar)
When: Late morning
Where: Charlie’s house

Charlotte had not gone to school this week. On Monday morning her alarm had gone off, and she’d gotten out of bed... only to break down all over again and climb right back in. A few weeks ago missing school and shattering her perfect attendance rating would have seemed like a big deal. Now it felt like nothing. So what. Her mother tried to cheer her up, and tell her that time healed all wounds... but Charlotte just couldn’t face the world yet. She dreaded going back to school. She dreaded explaining things to her friends. So she stayed in bed. When her mom spoke, Charlotte had no reply. She stayed in bed and waited for the world to hurt less.

Yesterday her mother had been worried enough to stay home from work. Early in the afternoon she'd come in to tell Charlotte about what had happened at school, and Charlotte had gotten out of bed to head downstairs and watch the news. Isadora had been encouraged by that, but when it was over, Charlotte simply got up and went back to bed. In the morning, her mom told her that the homecoming parade had been canceled. That should have bothered her. S.O.A.R. in Unity was going to have their own float, and she'd been working really hard on it. Now she took the news with a shrug of her shoulder. Big deal. She sighed, and curled up closer to Anna. Before Anna had been her familiar, she'd been her beloved pet. When Charlotte's father had died, Anna had refused to leave her side. When Charlotte had come home from school crying because the other kids made fun of her, Anna was the one she poured her heart out too. Their surroundings may have changed, but the routine did not. Since Charlotte had come home from the hospital last week, Anna had not left her side. The spaniel stayed quiet, and was simply there. She didn't try and force Charlotte to talk, and Charlotte appreciated it more than words could say.
