Nobody ever learns

Who: Charlene and Dagmar
Where: Redleaf Lake
When: Late evening

Being back from the ocean was, without a doubt, depressing. Once Roxy had left to return to that life she had to live Charlene had been left in the river, staring at the partially still-together walls of the sunken ship she resided in. And beyond them was the surface, a shade more green than blue that only served to remind her of where she was. Where she was not. Poking her head out of the ship, restless because sleeping had not been happening so well the past few nights, she had sighed at the sight of the riverbank walls. No, tonight she could not stay there again. Relearning alone was one thing but cramped? No, not tonight. The lake was a little bigger, a little deeper, perhaps she could fool herself when she was there and hope that the other merfolk who might live there would not take offense. Last thing that she wanted was to have any sort of fight. Maybe tomorrow when she had slept and was better off.

Even Redleaf Lake was not enough for her that night. Floating along the surface, Charlene dipped her hands down to pull up a few long strands of seaweed - why do they even call it the same? It's not the same! It tastes so different and the texture is abhorrent and the smell... she hated the smell most - and began to braid them together. Perhaps a little session of arts and crafts would help to lull her off. The fact that she was floating on the surface of a lake in the same general area where a hunter had tried to kill her not too terribly long ago, her side aching just at the flicker of a memory, bothered her not at all. She doubted that something like that would happen twice. It was so late at night and humans did sleep.
