[It's some time before he gets the nerve to place the call. ...Not nerve exactly, that would imply a quashing of fear was required and that's hardly the issue, but it's close enough. Humility, perhaps. Or a recognition that it's not admitting any kind of weakness to just call, if only a temporary lapse. Either way, it's late when the call comes. Not outside doctor's hours, but barely so.]

Why does every aspect of culture today have to be on every single electronic medium? Take the news. The news is on the television, it's on the internet, and in the newspaper. Do you really need to be linked to it through Spacebook, Flitter, and whatever the hell else is out there, and on your iPhone so you can't be away from it for more than fifteen seconds? I don't know about you, but I don't need to be connected to everything 24/7. I actually like not having microwaves or radiowaves or whatever-else waves pounding through my brain constantly.

I sincerely hope that everyone made it home from the masquerade in one piece. I am told by the Seattle Times that the party was the smash hit of the season, mostly because there was a great deal of sex behind closed curtains. How tragic, what the information age has done to random assignations in semi-public.

Begs the question, doesn't it - what is private, anymore? Is anything? Not as far as I can tell, but some will surely beg to differ. Is it right, the proliferation of exposure about everyone and anyone, even when attending what should ostensibly be a private function where they need not fear bad behavior under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the punch?

Can I ask you a question without you asking me why I'm asking it? It's important.

Humor me with an experimental question in ethics.

You are presented with an ultimatum. Either you help someone protect themselves doing something you feel is dangerous and unnecessary, or you refuse, and they do it anyway without your help, and without the protection you might have provided them.

Either way, the very fact that you know about the conflict means you've taken responsibility for their well-being - if you offer them protection, say a shield, for instance, you know they will use that shield to protect themselves but thus feel more invincible in battle, and that they may take more risks as a result. Even in the best case scenario where they survive because of the shield you have given them, you have also allowed them to continue in a line of action you disagree with. If you deny them the shield, they may be struck with an arrow and killed where they would have been protected.

Is there a right answer? Is there an ideal response?

I have a question I'd like to see answered honestly. No showmanship, no practiced line. I want a real answer.

The people in masks. Why do you do what you do? What is about? Is it about getting famous? Is it about being the hero, or a crusade to fix the world with your bare hands? What is it that motivates you?

And for the record, if there are any clowns hovering around on here, I fail to see the point of your little stunt. Congratulations! You stole a pittance from a small-time bank and shot your own men. What did you hope to accomplish with such a pointless fling? The only dead civilian was a guard on your side. Hardly a successful run when you're killing your own. It's a wonder anyone is willing to work with you at all.
