Happy Lunar New Year!

I only know a handful of things about my surrogate mother, but one of the things I do know is that she was Korean American, her family having originally come from Busan. I became interested in learning more about that side of my heritage once I was old enough to really understand that it different from the rest of my family and my dads were really supportive and helpful in letting me explore it. There is still a lot that I haven't experienced and someday I am going to just jump in and plan that trip to visit South Korea, but until then I do what I can to embrace my heritage here, in whatever way I can.

And so, today that looks like making tteokguk and jeon! I've only made both a few times before, both to varying degrees of success, so any wishes of luck are appreciated. The recipes also make a lot, so if you're looking to try something new, my kitchen is open.

All that said, I wish everyone a wonderful and satisfying new year. I hope it's full of new beginnings and overflowing happiness.

Do you want important news or most important news first?

Hello, friends! With it being two weeks into 2020, I've been working pretty steadily on my planner and getting all of my exciting dates for the new year sorted out. I like having things to look forward to, especially since I'm packing my last semester of undergrad full of credits, and one of those things I'm looking forward to is this five year anniversary that I will be celebrating in March. Thinking about it has me all full of warm fuzzies and since it's been a while since I did one of these open forum sort of things, now seems like a good time.

So, here's my question! What is your meet cute? AKA how did you meet your partner? Give me all of the heart eyes with your stories, please and thank you.

Best I can tell, these Dreams that so many of us are having can be related back to people's lives to varying degrees. I've been having them for a while now, but I haven't been able to really find a good distraction method or coping mechanism for when the memories are [...] particularly familiar or remind of a time I'd rather not relive.

So, to those of you that might sometimes find themselves in the same situation, how do you handle it?

Despite whatever the hell is happening in Dunhaven right now, KDES says we're still on for the first day back from break tomorrow. So it looks like I'll be spending the night digging out my car every few hours, so I can make it out to DC in the morning. 🤦🏿‍♂️

I... don't know what to do with myself, now that I have had two full days of winter break and 12 more days ahead. It's very glamorous, but I spent these two days in my pajamas and getting caught up on my DVR so now I feel as though I'm obligated to at least leave the house tomorrow.

Anyone going to the Winter Fair tomorrow? Or maybe something later?

Just as an update, we're still looking for volunteers to read to students at the elementary school! Look here for more information.

Unrelated to that, would there be any interest in a Secret Santa gift exchange among the community? I remember doing something similar with smaller groups before I moved, but given that Dunhaven is so small as if sign ups are kept to this network, I feel as though it wouldn't be too overwhelming an idea. It seems like a fun way to meet new people and maybe spread some good cheer.

Though, since Christmas is rapidly approaching, I am going to cut off sign ups this way on December 8 and then let people know who they all have for gifts to be delivered by the 25th.

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and went "Yeah, I look good"? Do you appreciate women that have a lot of self-confidence? Do you enjoy charity events? Are you single? (That last one is important.)

If yes to all of these, or even just 3 out of 4 (though once again, last one is important.), I have an opening for Charity Gala Arm Candy. I don't mind going solo, god knows it's not the first time, I just like having someone pretty to smile at the cameras with me and fetch me champagne and tell me I look sexy and to clap when I make a speech. The ability to hold a conversation is a bonus but not a requirement.

Based on the conversation we had on here recently, I compiled a list of everyone who is Dreaming--both public and anonymously. Out of respect for your interests, I only included those who specifically commented to be included on the list. In addition to compiling the list, I have also put together a semi-brief document for those who have questions about these Dreams since we continue to have a lot of newcomers who are otherwise unprepared for when these Dreams hit...or are just super confused by at the talk of Dreams on this network.

I wanted to go ahead an open this post up, as well, for anyone who wants to add their User ID (public or anonymous) to this list, or potentially update their information on the list. Hello out there, Dunhaven!

For those that don't know me, I am Beth Phillips, one of the resident kindergarten teachers here at the elementary school. I am looking for volunteer reading mentors to come by and read to some of our students. It would be once a week for about an hour where you will read to a student between grades K-3 that you've been matched to. You might also just let them read to you, depending on where they are with their reading level.

If this is something you would be interested in, please let me know! We do have an application and you'll have to pass a background check, as well as attend a short training, but otherwise we're looking to start the program up in January when we come back to school after the holidays.
