So I was thinking, and feel free to tell me I'm being crazy because I might actually be and I won't be offended if you think I am, but we've got this house together for at least the next 30 years and I'm committed to celebrating your 528th (and I swear to God I will still have these Burr underwear then, too). And it would probably make more sense ever January to, you know, file taxes jointly instead of separately, even if all it saves us is the cost of one tax software vs two. It's totally not a big deal or a Thing or whatever, but I've been kind of thinking we could upgrade to Officially Licensed MC from the Unauthorized Biography of MC (whatever, it was a good analogy) in my head). I don't know. Again, not a big deal. Just a thing I was thinking about and figured I'd, you know, ~throw it out there~. See what you thought.

To be fair, "we could file taxes jointly" probably isn't how you imagined broaching the topic of marriage, either.

Here's the thing. Marriage was never something I needed or thought I wanted for myself. My dad's a human trashbag who never treated my mom like she was an actual person as opposed to some cheese piece or trophy. And now I'm dreaming about another pair of shitty parents who have each other as much as they hated me. Well, no, they tolerated each other for what their union meant for their respective bloodlines, so I guess you could say they hated me more. So the whole marriage and general commitment thing is frankly terrifying to me and I'm also terrified of not knowing how to even be good at it. Like what if I ruin you because that's what people in my family do?

But I feel like, outside of Remi and Laila, you're the only person who gets me. I don't talk a lot about what or where I came from but you never name me feel like it would change the way you look at me if you knew everything. And so I guess what I'm trying to say is that, yeah, this super fucking terrifies me and I'm still not convinced that I'll be any good at being someone's wife, but I also feel like if there's anyone I can do terrifying things with, it's you.

So this isn't romantic, or sexy, or cheesy, it probably how anyone dreams of being proposed to. Hell, who wants to discuss this over the fucking internet, even? But it's me, and I feel like I can offer you me and that's enough.

All of that being said, I'd file for an upgrade yesterday, if you have a time machine.

Picket fence idealistic life is good forever kid Kesi? No, definitely not. But that's not who I am anymore, and it hasn't been for a long time.

I don't need to know every minute of your past to know who you are now, Lyra. To know who you are to me. And that person is infinitely more important than anyone you used to be or anyone you're dreaming of. Sure, they influence things at times, but it's not the be all-end all of us.

You're still going to be my MC, even if you're also my wife. We don't have to do anything traditional- not unless you want it. Hell, we don't even have to tell anyone else unless it becomes relevant, and frankly, who really needs to know what our legal status is that's not a doctor or lawyer or CPA? We get to define what this means to us, Lyra.

It's $33.05 for the license, and we can apply online. Then we just have to meet up at the judicial center in Manassas.

High five. We are so good at adulting and making plans. No more adulting for a year.

See, I think her beau's going to be halfway to leaving because his six months is up and she's going to be like MARRY ME so that the love of her life can stay. 😏 And then I expect someone to option the rights to their love story and we'll see it on the big screen somewhere around 2025.

Though, in your favor, this all might happen BEFORE the last minute (because I'm the procrastinator in our friend group), so five months is probably legit.

And I'm not making fun. I love how much of a hopeless romantic Laila is. It's not me, but it's her, and I wouldn't change a single thing about her.
