Growing up with dad in the military, I think I always knew that we could never really put down roots anywhere. Nothing was meant to be permanent other than family and country.

But in defiance of that mindset, I have signed my name to more papers in the last few days than I ever could have thought possible. And now Lyra and I are officially the owners of 25 Griffin Road.

It'll be a labor day weekend full of boxes and actual, well, labor- but holding those keys in my hand today sure made it all feel worth it.

For the record, Dunhaven, moving from the city that you lived in since you were a teenager and then putting your daughter on the bus for her first day of middle school is more emotion fuel than anyone should really volunteer for in the span of a week. I am not a fragile lady, but right now I have plenty of feelings, all of which have me wanting to pull out kid pictures at any given moment to show complete strangers on the street.

As I'm sitting here preparing for the first day of school, I find myself distracted by a very important question: would it be more exciting teaching at Hogwarts, or more exasperating? I feel like it would be a little bit of both, and I suddenly have much more respect and admiration for certain individuals than I already had before.

In case you didn't already know, today is the most special of days because, on this day many years ago, the one and only Everett Marshall was born. Since they have yet to acknowledge my petition to make the celebration of his birth a national holiday, I'm taking it upon myself to invite all of you Dunhavenians to help me honor this wonderful, beautiful, compassionate, and all-around standup guy by coming in to Stella's today for one of two specials.

The first is the #boyfriend which is two liege waffles topped with Nutella, fresh berries, whipped cream, cookie butter, and chocolate drizzle.

The second is the Birthday Babe which is a large waffle boat with birthday cake, two large scoops of whipped cream, strawberry and chocolate drizzle, chopped pecans, celebratory sprinkles, and two cherries on top.

Also, yes, I only just activated my Dunhaven network account today. That should tell you all you need to know about my work/life balance during my residency. Not that it's improved that much since becoming a doctor, but no longer being in school has enabled me to watch the Great Hack on Netflix, become hella paranoid, deactivate my Facebook, and now I see the wisdom in small-town social networking. So long as city hall doesn't sell our data to the Russians like that pos Mark Zuckerburg.
