The trouble with dreaming of a Gryffindor when you are very much not a Gryffindor (🦡💛🖤) is that sometimes you've got such conflicting anxiety-versus-wish-I-was-braver...ness. It's hard to explain, I guess.

And then tonight I've got an adorable almost-two-year-old date to the roller derby bout. She'll probably teach me a thing or two about cheering loudly.

I don't know why it amuses me so much, really, because my number on this thing is definitely 17. 🤦‍♂️😇

Hello. How has your week been, so far? Did you like the cupcakes?

I talked to Mo and Hannah and everyone. About what happened to you. Mo said she wouldn't step in for me again. And I'll be [...] more careful, too.

Oh! And I saw that the roller derby team announced their schedule! Would you be alright if I came to one of those matches to support you?

I made cupcakes today. I think they turned out pretty good, actually.

I know I haven't really been myself for the last little while. And I'm trying to work on that. And I appreciate your patience with me, and the reaching out when I've maybe not been very receptive to it.

But I need to say something and it's not really easy for me to say but please listen, okay?

I know I'm the youngest one of us. And it's probably pretty natural for you all to think of me like I'm still just a kid who needs protecting all the time. I know I'm not the sort of person to lash out or to throw the first punch. Or any punches.

But that's how I want to be.

And being that way doesn't mean I need someone else to stand on guard in front of me forever.

Yeah, maybe it leaves me a little more fragile or a little more susceptible to being hurt. But that's my choice. And I'll deal with those consequences.

And if you think you know better than me what I want or need, and act on that without talking to me about it- especially if those actions wind up hurting someone else- that [...] doesn't make you a very good friend. It makes me feel like I can't trust you, and that's now how I want to feel about any of you.

As glad as I am to be back at school because I love being in the classroom, the unexpected snow day was honestly the best. Except now I keep getting the following conversation, to varying degrees:

Student: Ms. Hondo, if we get snowed out tomorrow, do we have to turn in the homework?
Me: I don't think we have to worry about that. It's supposed to be relatively warm.
Student: That's what they said when we got over a foot of snow.
Me: ... Do your homework.

And I can't even argue that.

[Church Siblings]

I'm flying in to DC on Sunday morning.

And I think I'm going to look at a studio apartment on Peach Street, instead of the dorms.

Can you get jetlag when you were only one timezone away? Because I'm pretty sure I am jetlagged and was only one timezone away.

HELLO and happy belated Christmas or holidays, though I suppose the second isn't over yet so I don't have to use belated if I go that way. It feels as though I've been gone for a year, instead of just a month. Is it really 2020 in only a couple days? That seems impossible. Pretty sure it was just March.
